Capitol All-Stars Softball Game
Tonight at 5:30 p.m., PCN will air the first-ever Capitol All-Stars Softball Game, a charity event to raise money to fight hunger. The game will take place at the Harrisburg Senators stadium on City Island, and it will feature members of the state Senate (where I work) and the state House, divided into teams representing the East and the West.

“Blow out the Candles” in Spanish
My shortest short story, “Blow Out the Candles,” is now available in Spanish:
“Blow Out the Candles” is about a detective in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, who finds the body of a girl who used to be friends with his daughter. It was originally published in English by Shotgun Honey last year.

What is a “Boodler”?
One of the fun things about setting a story in the past is being able to use language from the time.
“All Alone,” my contribution to Shotgun Honey’s RELOADED anthology, is set in 1951. The main character, Oscar Cain, is described at one point as “a bagman working for a boodler in a city run by thieves.” I really enjoyed being able to use two old-style political terms in that sentence.

My short story “12 Before 9,” about the owner of a used bookshop in Philadelphia who has a less wholesome side job, was originally published in English by Shotgun Honey last year. It was the first short story I’d written since 1998, and I’m very pleased to report that it’s now available in Spanish:

“All Alone” – Scenes in The Troc

Beth and I had a great time traveling to New York City yesterday for the KWIK KRIMES book signing and launch party.

KWIK KRIMES Event: Sept. 9
I can’t wait to be in New York City on Monday, Sept. 9, for the KWIK KRIMES book signing event at Otto Penzler’s Mysterious Bookshop. (The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m.)
