Another Year: A Short History Of a Big Something

A year ago two days from now I sent my very first submission to MLR Press. I hadn’t meant to do that. Hooked was supposed to be a short story I would try to self-publish, and then forget about this whole Being A Real Author deal.

But someone I know through writing, someone who has become so incredibly dear to me over the years, said, “No. Shoot for the moon. Try a publisher.”

So I did. After I pressed send on that submission email (oh my God, such an embarrassing email too. I can’t think about...

Let’s raise the bar and our cups to the stars

The House on Hancock Hill received its first review today.

I know, one of these days I’ll be old hat at this (unlikely), but until there will be a lot of incoherent flailing if I find someone saying good things about this book. You can find the review here, on a lovely website called the Smut Book Club, which has a gay romance section all of it’s own. It’s awesome.

Full Circle - a cover reveal and a release date

The release date for The House on Hancock Hill is February 7th (Valentine anyone?), and look at the pretty, pretty cover!

HouseonHancockHill

I started writing this in February 2013, so I find it kind of meaningful to have it published exactly a year later. This project is my debut baby, even though I've released shorts since. The House on Hancock Hill is what started it all. I'm having a bit of an emotional moment you guys.

Anyway, keep an eye on this space, because there will be giveaway and a...

End of year writing meme

I saw one of these floating around and I thought it might be fun to do while I recover on the couch from all the Christmassy goodness I was forced to eat. (Ha, right.)

I'm also doing this so I can compare my tally next year.

Original Fiction word-count:

- Hooked (17,898)
- Chasing Ghosts (6,430)
- All That is Gold (7.217)
- Halcyon Hush  (6,307)
- Ties that Bind (8,538)
- Genie in a Beanie (15,947)
- The House on Hancock Hill (75,665)
- Two For Joy (12,718)
- Dust of Snow (54,213)
- Shadow Mount...

New release: Ties that Bind - A Halloween short.

Today is release day for TIES THAT BIND - the spooky and hot tale about Oliver O'Shea and his lover Andrew, who he is about to lose to the Otherworld. I had heaps of fun writing these two boys and it certainly won't be the last time I try my hand at something more fantasy-like.

If you'd like a chance to win a copy of TIES THAT BIND, share something spooky that has happened to you. I'll draw a name out of the hat on Sunday!

In other news, the first draft of tentatively titled Sha...

CTK copy

Welcome to my blog, Chris, and thank you for taking the time to talk to me. How are you?

I'm fine, thanks Indra, and thank you for hosting me on your blog today.

So I understand the release of HUNTER’S HUNT is your debut with Torquere Press. How did you feel when that acceptance email came in?

I was happy, incredible happy, and yeah, I think I did a little squeeing too. ;-)

How old were you when you started writing? Do you remember what your very first story was about?

I wrote as a kid b...

Outserve Charity Sip Blitz.

Every year, the great authors at Torquere Press put their money where their mouth is, donating their time writing stories for our chosen charity. Those same authors donate any royalties earned on their stories to the chosen organization, with Torquere matching those donations 100%. In the past we've raised $5000.00 for Lambda Legal, over $3000.00 for the Matthew Shepard Foundation, and more than $10000.00 combined for organizations such as NOH8 and Doctors Without Borders.

For the 2013-201...
