To Change, Give Yourself Away in Love

“Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other."

Romans 12:4-5 (NLT)

If you want lasting change in your life, you must fill your life with love.

Love is the only thing that can change the unchangeable. Love heals, uplifts, strengthens, energizes, refreshes, and renews. Love is the most powerful force in the universe because, as 1 John 4:8 says, “God is love” (NIV).

As a Christian, where do you find this kind of love? In community with other Christians.

God wired the universe in such a way that we need each other. I need you, and you need me. The phrase “one another” is used 58 times in the New Testament. It says things like love one another, care for one another, encourage one another, support one another, pray for one another, greet one another, share with one another.

God never meant for you to go through life by yourself. The Bible says in Romans 12:4-5, “Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other” (NLT).

What does it mean to “belong to each other”? It means you need the people around you, and they need you. You become each other’s spiritual family. You help each other toward your goals and encourage each other as you become more like Christ. 

The Bible is clear about what love looks like in a spiritual family: “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other” (Romans 12:9-10 NLT).

“Take delight in honoring each other”—I love that! You know what that means? It means when people in your community have a win in their health, finances, or any goal they’ve set, you celebrate with them. And when life is difficult, your community of believers is the first to comfort and support you.

Here’s the amazing thing: God has wired the universe so that when you help other people, God simultaneously works on your problems. There is healing in giving back. 

Remember when Job lost everything, including his health, his family, and his wealth? At the end of the story, God gave it all back to Job—because Job prayed, not for himself but for his friends. The Bible says, “After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before” (Job 42:10 NIV).

Do you need lasting, positive change as you work toward your goals? Give yourself away in love, and then watch God work in your life.

Puedes Experimentar una Amistad con Dios

“Pues, como nuestra amistad con Dios quedó restablecida por la muerte de su Hijo cuando todavía éramos sus enemigos, con toda seguridad seremos salvos por la vida de su Hijo”. Romanos 5:10 (NTV)

Tu relación con Dios tiene varios aspectos diferentes: Dios es tu Creador y tu Hacedor, Señor y Maestro, Juez, Redentor, Padre, Salvador, y muchos más. (Ver Salmo 89:26, 95:6, 136:3; Isaías 33:22, 47:4; Juan 13:13, 1 Juan 3:1; Judas 1:4)

Pero la verdad más impactante es esta: ¡El Dios Todopoderoso anhela ser tu amigo!

En el Edén vemos la relación ideal de Dios con nosotros: Adán y Eva disfrutaron una relación íntima con Dios. No había rituales, ceremonias, ni religión —solo una sencilla y amorosa relación entre Dios y las primeras personas que Él creó. Sin ser obstaculizados por la culpa o el miedo, Adán y Eva se deleitaban en Dios y Él se deleitaba en ellos.

Fuimos hechos para vivir en la presencia continua de Dios. Pero después de caer en el pecado, esa relación ideal se perdió. Solo pocas personas en los tiempos del Antiguo Testamento tuvieron el privilegio de tener una amistad con Dios. Moisés y Abraham fueron llamados “amigos de Dios”, David fue llamado “un hombre conforme a mi corazón” y Jacob, Enoc y Noé tuvieron amistades íntimas con Dios (Ver Génesis 5:22, 6:8; Éxodo 33:11,17; 2 Crónicas 20:7; Job 20:4; Isaías 41:8; Hechos 13:22; Santiago 2:23).

Pero el temor de Dios, no la amistad, era más común en el Antiguo Testamento. Luego Jesús cambió la situación. Cuando Él pagó por nuestros pecados en la cruz, el velo en el templo que simbolizaba nuestra separación de Dios fue partido de arriba hacia abajo, indicando que el acceso a Dios una vez más estaba disponible.

A diferencia de los sacerdotes del Antiguo Testamento que tenían que pasar horas preparándose para un encuentro con Dios, ahora nosotros nos podemos acercar a Dios en cualquier momento. La Biblia dice, “Así que ahora podemos alegrarnos por nuestra nueva y maravillosa relación con Dios gracias a que nuestro Señor Jesucristo nos hizo amigos de Dios” Romanos 5:11 (NTV).

La amistad con Dios es posible solamente por la gracia de Dios y el sacrificio de Jesús. “Y todo esto es un regalo de Dios, quien nos trajo de vuelta a sí mismo por medio de Cristo. Y Dios nos ha dado la tarea de reconciliar a la gente con él” 2 Corintios 5:18 (NTV).

Un antiguo himno dice, “¡Oh, Qué Amigo Nos Es Cristo” actualmente, Dios nos invita a disfrutar de su amistad y comunión con las tres personas de la Trinidad; el Padre (1 Juan 1:3), el Hijo (1 Corintios 1:9), y el Espíritu Santo (2 Corintios 13:14).

You Can Only Manage What You Measure

“Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you."

Romans 12:3 (NIV)

The first and greatest barrier to change in any area of your life is pride. Pride keeps you from being honest about the areas where you need to change.

But, the fact is, we all need to change. Nobody has it all together. I don’t have it all together. You don’t have it all together. The person you admire most in the world doesn’t have it all together.

The Bible says there’s nothing perfect on Earth except God’s Word. Everything on this planet is broken because of sin. But we all walk around trying to impress people. We pretend that we’ve got it all together.

If you want to have lasting change in your life, though, then you first have to humbly assess your current state—which includes admitting that you don’t have it all together. You have to put aside your pride and admit you have a problem with your finances, your health, or whatever area you struggle with in your life.

Romans 12:3 says, “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you” (NIV).

Sometimes, though, you can’t see yourself accurately without help from others. Do you have the courage to ask other people to be honest with you? Are you willing to ask the people closest to you, “Where do I need to change?”

Why is it so important to see yourself accurately? Because you can only manage what you measure.

If you don’t know the measure of your faith, you can’t grow in your faith. If you don’t know the measure of your health, you can’t develop and grow in health. If you don’t know the measure of where you are financially, you can’t set goals financially. If you don’t know the measure of where you are spiritually or vocationally or relationally, then you can’t grow in those areas. You can only manage what you measure.

Are you ready for real life change? Then, first, set aside your pride and take an accurate measure of where you are today. Only then will you be able to see the areas where you need to grow.

¿Cómo puedo Arreglar todo con Dios?

“Si declaras abiertamente que Jesús es el Señor y crees en tu corazón que Dios lo levantó de los muertos, serás salvo. Pues es por creer en tu corazón que eres hecho justo a los ojos de Dios y es por declarar abiertamente tu fe que eres salvo”. Romanos 10:9-10 (NTV)

La Biblia dice en Romanos 1:17, “Esa Buena Noticia nos revela cómo Dios nos hace justos ante sus ojos” (NTV).

¿Cómo Dios nos hace justos con Él? Esto se llama Evangelio y hay tres puntos.

Primero, no podemos hacernos justos.

El Cielo es un lugar perfecto. No hay pecado, tristeza, maldad ni injusticia. Pero aquí está el problema: nosotros somos imperfectos, y Dios no puede permitir que personas con pecado entren al Cielo porque entonces también estaría lleno de pecado.

Romanos 3:20 dice, “Pues nadie llegará jamás a ser justo ante Dios por hacer lo que la ley manda. La ley sencillamente nos muestra lo pecadores que somos” (NTV).

Las únicas personas que piensan que pueden cumplir las leyes de Dios son aquellas que no las conocen, porque las leyes de Dios son perfectas y ninguno de nosotros es perfecto. No podemos ser rectos por nuestra propia cuenta. Así que Dios tuvo que idear un plan.

Segundo, Dios envió a Jesús a pagar por nuestros pecados para que pudiéramos ser declarados justos.

Cuando infringes las leyes del hombre, pagas la pena del hombre. Cuando infringes las leyes de Dios, pagas la pena de Dios, que es la eternidad en el infierno. Alguien tiene que pagar por todas las cosas que has hecho en la vida que lastiman a otras personas, a ti mismo y a Dios. Dios dijo: “Enviaré a mi Hijo, Jesús, a pagar la multa. Él tomará tu lugar para que no tengas que ir al infierno. De esta manera puedes estar conmigo para siempre”.

¿Entiendes por qué el Evangelio se llama Buenas Nuevas? Significa que todo lo que has hecho o harás mal en la vida ya ha sido pagado por Jesucristo en la cruz. Eres hecho justo ante Dios.

“[Dios] nos salvó, no por las acciones justas que nosotros habíamos hecho, sino por su misericordia” Tito 3:5 (NTV).

Tercero, tenemos que aceptar por fe lo que Dios hizo por nosotros.

Para ser hechos justos ante Dios, solo cree y acepta por fe que lo que Jesús hizo en la cruz; pagó por tus pecados. Entonces, eres parte de la familia de Dios. Puedes vivir como Él quiere que vivas ahora y luego ir al Cielo en la eternidad. Eso es justicia.

Romanos 10:9-10 dice, “Si declaras abiertamente que Jesús es el Señor y crees en tu corazón que Dios lo levantó de los muertos, serás salvo. Pues es por creer en tu corazón que eres hecho justo a los ojos de Dios y es por declarar abiertamente tu fe que eres salvo” (NTV).

Reflexiona sobre esto :

Dios ofrece el don del perdón por medio de Jesucristo a todos, sin importar quiénes somos, qué hemos hecho o por cuánto tiempo lo hemos hecho.

Hoy es el día para resolver esto. Si no estás seguro de como ir al Cielo cuando mueras, haz esta oración: “Dios mío, gracias por haberme creado, sé que tienes un plan y un propósito para mi vida y que me hiciste para conocerte… Gracias por ofrecerme tomar la decisión de aceptar o rechazar tu Salvación. Hoy humildemente te pido que me salves, no por lo bueno que yo haya hecho, sino por lo que Jesucristo hizo por mí. No lo entiendo todo, pero quiero confiar en tu Hijo. Dios, quiero conocerte. Quiero aprender a amarte. Quiero tener hambre y sed de justicia el resto de mi vida. Pongo mi confianza en tu gracia y en tu perdón. Quiero que seas el Señor de mi vida. Amén”.

Take off the Old, Put on the New

“Put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires . . . be made new in the attitude of your minds; and . . . put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."

Ephesians 4:22-24 (NIV)

If you want to have lasting change in your life, you have to start with your body—and your mind is part of your body. So, to change your life, you have to change the way you think.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (NIV). That word “transformed” in the Greek is the word we get “metamorphosis” from. Metamorphosis is what happens when a caterpillar changes into a butterfly.

When a caterpillar wraps itself in a cocoon, it eventually comes out. But it’s been transformed—not into a better version of a caterpillar, but into a totally different creature. That’s not improvement. That’s radical transformation! And only God can do that.

Radical transformation is what God wants for you, too. You can turn over a new leaf on your own, but only God can give you a new life. He does this by renewing your mind.

Ephesians 4:22-24 says, “Put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires . . . be made new in the attitude of your minds; and . . . put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (NIV).

Notice that there’s a putting off and a putting on. The health of your mind really comes down to stopping some stuff you need to stop doing and starting some stuff you need to start doing. Stop putting negative, hurtful things into your mind. Start watching and listening to things that make you more like Christ.

In the renewal of your mind, you’ve got to put off before you can put on. Let’s say you go to a store to look for a new coat. You find one to try on. But if you’re wearing a coat already, you have to take off the old one before you put on the new one.

That’s also true spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Look at the verses from Ephesians 2 again. The Bible says, “Put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires.” The “old self” is the impulses and compulsions that pull you the wrong direction.

Then you need to “be made new in the attitude of your minds.” Attitudes are kind of like diapers.  You’ve got to change them every once in a while, or they start stinking.

Only after you’ve put off your old self and old attitudes can you “put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Do you need change in your life today? Remember that a changed life begins with a changed mind.

Cómo orar Efectivamente

“Te suplico que recuerdes lo que le dijiste a tu siervo Moisés: ‘Si me son infieles los dispersaré entre las naciones; pero si vuelven a mí y obedecen mis mandatos y viven conforme a ellos . . . yo los volveré a traer al lugar que elegí para que mi nombre sea honrado’ ”. Nehemías 1:8-9 (NTV)

Aquí hay cuatro secretos para la oración respondida basados en la vida de Nehemías:

Basa tu petición en el carácter de Dios. Ora sabiendo que Dios te responderá: “Espero que contestes esta oración por quién Tú eres. Eres un Dios fiel. Eres un gran Dios. Eres un Dios amoroso. Eres un Dios maravilloso. ¡Puedes manejar este problema, Dios!Confiesa los pecados de los que estás consciente. Después de que Nehemías basa su oración en quién es Dios, él confiesa sus pecados diciendo: “Confieso que hemos pecado contra ti. ¡Es cierto, incluso mi propia familia y yo hemos pecado! Hemos pecado terriblemente al no haber obedecido los mandatos, los decretos y las ordenanzas que nos diste” Nehemías 1:6-7 (NTV). No fue culpa de Nehemías que Israel entrara en cautiverio. Ni siquiera había nacido cuando sucedió; lo más probable es que nació en cautiverio. Sin embargo, se está incluyendo a sí mismo en los pecados nacionales. Él dice: “He sido parte del problema”.Reclama las promesas de Dios. Nehemías ora al Señor y le dice: “Te suplico que recuerdes lo que le dijiste a tu siervo Moisés” Nehemías 1:8 (NTV). ¿Te imaginas decirle a Dios que “se acuerde” de algo? Nehemías le recuerda a Dios una promesa que hizo a la nación de Israel. En efecto, él ora: “Dios, tú advertiste a través de Moisés que, si somos infieles, perderíamos la tierra de Israel. Pero también prometiste que, si nos arrepentíamos, nos la devolverías”.
¿Es que Dios necesita que le recordemos las cosas? No. ¿Olvida lo que ha prometido? No. Entonces, ¿por qué hacemos esto? Porque nos ayuda a nosotros a recordar lo que Dios ha prometido.Sé específico en lo que pides. Si quieres respuestas específicas a la oración, haz peticiones específicas. To Change Your Life, Start with Your Body

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship."

Romans 12:1 (NIV)

For change to happen in any area of your life—whether it’s financial, emotional, educational, mental, or relational—you have to begin with the physical.

Your body affects your behavior. Your muscles affect your moods and your motivation. Your physiology can actually affect your psychology.

Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship” (NIV).

The problem with a living sacrifice is that it can choose to crawl off the altar. People do this all the time. You offer yourself to God, and then you take yourself back. Offering your body as a living sacrifice isn’t something you need to do just once. You’ve got to do it four, five, or maybe 10 times a day!

So what is your “true and proper worship”? The Bible lists three things you can do with your body as acts of worship. 

Cleanse your body. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 7:1, “Let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God” (NIV). There are two main ways to cleanse your body. First, you can cleanse your body by controlling what you allow in your mind through what you watch and listen to. You also can cleanse your body by making good choices about what you eat and drink.

Care for your body. Ephesians 5:29 says, “No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church” (NLT). Any kind of change requires energy. And to have energy, you have to care for your body. Keeping your body in good physical shape is an act of worship to God.

Control your body. “Each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable” (1 Thessalonians 4:4 NIV). There is no reason to say, “I couldn’t help myself!” You can learn to control your body.

Do you know it’s time to make a change in life, but you’ve wondered where to start? Start with your body! Cleanse it, care for it, and control it. To change your life, change your body.

Dios siempre está Presente, sin Importar cómo te Sientas

“Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo he de partir. El Señor ha dado; el Señor ha quitado. ¡Bendito sea el nombre del Señor!” . Job 1:21 (NVI)

Cuando eres un cristiano inmaduro, Dios te da muchas emociones de confirmación y a menudo responde a las oraciones más inmaduras y egocéntricas para que sepas que Él existe. Pero a medida que creces en la fe, Él te separara de estas dependencias.

La omnipresencia de Dios y la manifestación de Su presencia son dos cosas diferentes. Una es un hecho; la otra es a menudo un sentimiento. Dios siempre está presente, incluso cuando no lo sientas, su presencia es demasiado profunda para ser medida por una simple emoción.

Sí, Dios quiere que sientas su presencia, pero anhela más que confíes en Él. Vivimos por la fe, no por vista ni por nuestros sentimientos.

Las situaciones en que más ejercitas tu fe serán en esos momentos en que la vida se desmorona y no encuentras a Dios en ningún lugar. Esto le pasó a Job. En un solo día perdió todo: su familia, su negocio, su salud y todas sus posesiones. Luego, por 37 capítulos, ¡Dios no dijo nada!

¿Cómo alabas a Dios cuando no entiendes lo que está sucediendo en tu vida y Dios está en silencio? ¿Cómo te mantienes conectado en una crisis sin comunicación? ¿Cómo mantienes tus ojos en Jesús cuando están llenos de lágrimas? Haz lo que hizo Job: “luego se dejó caer al suelo en actitud de adoración. Entonces dijo: “Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, y desnudo he de partir. El Señor ha dado; el Señor ha quitado. ¡Bendito sea el nombre del Señor!” Job 1:21 (NVI).

Dile a Dios exactamente cómo te sientes. Derrama tu corazón delante de Él. Entrega todas las emociones que sientas. Job hizo esto cuando dijo: “No puedo evitar hablar; debo expresar mi angustia. Mi alma llena de amargura debe quejarse” Job 7:11 (NTV).

Job gritó cuando Dios parecía distante: ¡Qué días aquellos, cuando yo estaba en mi apogeo y Dios bendecía mi casa con su íntima amistad!” Job 29:4 (NVI).

Dios puede manejar tus dudas, enojo, miedo, pena, confusión y preguntas.

Three Characteristics of Godly Goals

“Without faith it is impossible to please God."

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

God cares about what kind of goals you set. In fact, he wants three things from your goals:

Godly goals challenge your faith. The Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV). In order to please God, you need to set goals that require faith. In other words, you should set goals that are too big to reach on your own.

If you set a big goal, God will work in a big way. If you set a medium-size goal, God will work in a medium way. If you set a small goal, God will work in a small way.

Goals stretch your faith. They affirm that you trust God, but they are also statements of how much you trust God. The Bible says, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29 NIV).

Godly goals develop your character. When you set a goal that requires faith, you change along the journey as you work to reach that goal.

It’s the plot of a thousand movies—whether the characters’ goal is to win the war, to go to the moon, or to climb Mount Everest. During the movie the characters face obstacles to reaching the goal, and, as a result, their character changes. They grow up.

God wants you to grow up. When you die, you won’t take any of your accomplishments with you to heaven. But you will take your character. Godly goals develop the kind of character God wants you to have.

The apostle Paul says, “I do not mean that I am already as God wants me to be. I have not yet reached that goal. But I continue trying to reach it and to make it mine. Christ wants me to do that. That is the reason Christ made me his” (Philippians 3:12 ICB).

Godly goals give you hope. I once read a study about Holocaust survivors who had been through the hell of death camps. How did they survive? All of them had something in common: They had something to look forward to.

Godly goals give you a reason to endure, even through the most difficult times. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (NIV).

When you have goals, you have the hope to keep moving forward, even when you feel like giving up.

I don’t know what you’re going through today. But no matter what life is like for you, you need a godly goal. Pursuing it will challenge your faith, develop your character, and build your hope.

¿Por qué Debemos Preocuparnos por estar Bien con Dios?

“Porque en el evangelio se revela la justicia de Dios, que de principio a fin es por medio de la fe, tal como está escrito: «El justo por la fe vivirá»”.  Romanos 1:17 (RVC)

Justicia es una gran palabra en la Biblia. Se usa cientos de veces. La Biblia dice que Dios ama la justicia y que Dios es justo. Dice que un día Dios juzgará al mundo con justicia. El Salmo 23 dice que Dios nos guía por los caminos de la justicia.

Entonces, ¿qué significa esta palabra en el mundo?

Una vez lo busqué en un diccionario teológico, ¡y había 27 páginas en la definición! Pero lo resumiré en dos palabras: La Justicia es una relación y un estilo de vida.

La justicia simplemente significa estar bien con Dios. Romanos 1:17 dice: “Porque en el evangelio se revela la justicia de Dios” (RVC). La Buena Nueva es que Dios nos hace estar bien con Él a través de la muerte de Jesús, Él pagó por nuestros pecados. Debido a la muerte de Jesús, podemos tener una relación personal con Dios.

La justicia es también un estilo de vida. Significa vivir bien como Dios quiere. La Biblia dice en 1 Juan 2:29, “Si reconocen que Jesucristo es justo, reconozcan también que todo el que practica la justicia ha nacido de él” (NVI).

Entonces, ¿por qué deberías preocuparte por estar bien con Dios? Porque es la única manera de vivir, y es la única forma de ir al Cielo.

Cuando estás desconectado de Dios, no estás realmente viviendo; ¡Solo existes¡ La mayoría de las personas en el mundo no están realmente completamente vivas. Solo existen, intentando llegar al fin de semana. Pero estar desconectado de tu Creador es una tontería.

La vida no se trata de la adquisición de cosas o el logro de objetivos. La vida se trata de conocer a Dios, el que te ama y te hizo con un propósito. No estás viviendo realmente hasta que estés bien con Dios y tengas una relación con Él.

La justicia es también la manera en que llegas al Cielo. Dios creó el Cielo como un lugar para sus hijos que Él ama, y Dios quiere que estés con Él para siempre. Dios quiere que estés en el Cielo, pero no te va a obligar a ir al Cielo. Puedes elegir desconectarte de Dios aquí en la Tierra, pero cuando termines tu vida en la Tierra, no tendrás una segunda oportunidad para elegir dónde pasar la eternidad.

No puedes culpar a Dios, porque Él te da la opción ahora mismo de tener una relación con Él. ¡Dios quiere que elijas amarlo! Y cuando lo hagas, estarás bien con Él. ¡Tu vida cambiará aquí en la Tierra y por toda la eternidad!
