Work for Your Goals in Faith, Not Fear

“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you."

Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)

Setting a big goal can be exciting at first—and overwhelming. In fact, looking at a big goal in front of you can make you afraid. So, how can you respond in faith instead of fear? Here are four ways.

Acknowledge God’s presence.
You can be confident that God is with you and that he is working through every circumstance and situation in your life, including your big goals. The Bible says, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT).

Watch for signs of God’s work in your life.
The bigger the dream, the longer it may take you to accomplish it. You may not see the fruit of your labor at first, but look for the little shoots sticking up out of the ground. God is working, even when it’s not obvious. Trusting that God is working will help keep you from fear and discouragement. Keep working toward your godly goal, and in time, you will see God’s blessing.

Stand on God’s promises in the Bible.
When you set a goal, don’t focus on the problems; instead, focus on the promises. Find a promise in God’s Word that will take you to your goal.

Genesis tells the story of Abraham giving his chief servant a big goal: to travel to a faraway land to find a wife for Abraham’s son. When the servant begins to wonder if he can accomplish it. But Abraham reassures his servant by telling him about a promise Abraham received from God: “The Lord will send his angel before you to help you get a wife for my son there” (Genesis 24:7 NCV).

When you have a God-given goal that’s tied to a promise in the Bible, you can wait with in faith, not fear, trusting that God will honor his promises.

Believe in the goodness of God’s plans.
How do you know that God’s plans for you are good? The Bible includes more than 7,000 promises of God’s goodness towards you, because he wants you to learn to trust him, to have faith instead of fear.

God may not send an angel to go before you as you work toward your goal, but that’s okay—you don’t need an angel! Dozens of times in Scripture God has said, “I’ll be with you, no matter where you go.”

Whatever big goal God has put in front of you today, choose to respond with faith instead of fear as you watch for signs of his work in your life and believe in his goodness to you.

Haz el Bien a Quienes se Oponen a Ti

“Amen a sus enemigos! Hagan bien a quienes los odian. Bendigan a quienes los maldicen. Oren por aquellos que los lastiman. Si alguien te da una bofetada en una mejilla, ofrécele también la otra mejilla. Si alguien te exige el abrigo, ofrécele también la camisa ”. Lucas 6:27-29 (NTV)

Cuando eres perseguido, acosado o te enfrentas a la oposición, debes responder con una bendición.

Jesús dice en Lucas 6:27-29: “Amen a sus enemigos! Hagan bien a quienes los odian. Bendigan a quienes los maldicen. Oren por aquellos que los lastiman. Si alguien te da una bofetada en una mejilla, ofrécele también la otra mejilla. Si alguien te exige el abrigo, ofrécele también la camisa” (NTV).

¿Quién hace eso? No hay mucha gente, realmente. Es lo que distingue a los cristianos, porque no es una respuesta natural, popular o fácil.

¡Se necesita mucho valor para hacer esas cosas! Cualquiera puede tomar represalias o decir algo malo.

Dios quiere que ames a tus enemigos, que hagas el bien a los que te odian, que bendigas a los que te maldigan, que ores por los que te lastiman y que pongas la otra mejilla. ¿Es eso fácil? No. Es el testimonio más poderoso, pero solo puedes hacerlo llenándote del amor de Dios.

La película “El mayordomo” muestra cómo los Jinetes de la Libertad, que lucharon contra el racismo en el Sur durante el Movimiento por los Derechos Civiles, entrenaron a las personas a no tomar represalias cuando fueran golpeadas, escupidas, maldecidas, empujadas o cuando las personas les arrojaran comida. Es una escena intensamente poderosa de tomar una postura no violenta.

Mientras miraba esa escena, las lágrimas comenzaron a caer por mi cara. Pensé: “Quiero ser esa clase de persona para Jesús. Quiero ser tan valiente. Quiero tener un corazón de coraje que no ceda ante lo que está mal, no importa lo que me tiren. Y quiero responder con amor”.

Cuando te niegas a tomar represalias y en cambio respondes con amor en el trabajo o con alguien que no te quiere, Dios estará complacido. Y vas a ser bendecido.

“Dios bendice a los que son perseguidos por hacer lo correcto, porque el reino del cielo les pertenece. Dios los bendice a ustedes cuando la gente les hace burla y los persigue y miente acerca de ustedes y dice toda clase de cosas malas en su contra porque son mis seguidores. ¡Alégrense! ¡Estén contentos, porque les espera una gran recompensa en el cielo! Y recuerden que a los antiguos profetas los persiguieron de la misma manera” Mateo 5:10-12 (NTV).

Jesús pagó un precio por ti. Él dice que hay un precio que pagar por seguirlo. La popularidad en la Tierra no es parte de la garantía de ser cristiano, pero su recompensa en el Cielo es una garantía.

Exercise Faith by Setting Goals

“An intelligent person aims at wise action, but a fool starts off in many directions."

Proverbs 17:24 (GNT)

Most of what you do on a daily basis won’t matter in five minutes, much less five years. It may hurt to admit it, but you—along with everyone else—do a lot that really doesn’t matter.

To achieve your dreams, you’ll need to decide what really matters and what will last in your life. Then, focus on that. The Bible says, “An intelligent person aims at wise action, but a fool starts off in many directions” (Proverbs 17:24 GNT).

Once you’ve figured out what matters most, set goals big enough to require faith. Jesus says in Matthew 9 that he will bless you as much as you want. His blessing depends on the size of your faith. He says, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29 NIV).

God is telling you to choose your cup—and he’ll fill it. Whether you have a little teacup, a five-gallon jug, or a 100-gallon barrel of faith, God will fill it up according to your faith. How much you trust God determines how much God blesses you.

You exercise faith by setting goals on the way to accomplishing your dream. You set a goal when you say, “God, I believe you’re telling me that you want me to accomplish this by a particular date. It’s really going to stretch me to do it, but I believe this is what I need to do.”

What is a goal set in F.A.I.T.H.? It is:

Focused: It’s specific—something you can measure.Attainable: It’s possible and practical. If you set an unrealistic goal, you won’t accomplish it.Individual: It’s personal. You can’t set goals for other people. You have ownership over your own goals, not someone else’s.Trackable: Your goal needs a deadline. Without a date on it, it’s not a goal.Heartfelt: Never set a goal you’re not passionate about. You’ll only accomplish goals that you really desire to reach.

Are there dreams you’ve given up for dead? Goals will give them new life. Take a look at the dreams you’ve given up on. Add a goal, and see what God can do.

Una Oración Especial para el Día de las Madres

Padre, qué hermoso día para recordar y celebrar a las madres…

Nos quedamos asombrados cuando nos detenemos a pensar en el poder que tienen las mujeres para dejar una huella en la vida de los niños que tienen a su cargo. ¡Qué privilegio! ¡Qué responsabilidad!

Dios, gracias por las madres que nos has dado. Estamos agradecidos por la manera en que nos educaron de forma sana y positiva. Perdonamos sus errores. Decidimos centrarnos en el hecho de que las elegiste para crearnos y darnos vida.

Gracias por los brazos acogedores de las mujeres que no fueron nuestras madres, pero que nos amaron como si fuéramos suyos.

Mantente cerca de las que anhelan ser madres, de las que lloran la pérdida de un hijo y de las que extrañan a sus hijos que ya no están en casa; abrázalas con tu amor.

Dios, por aquellas que están en medio de la crianza en este momento; dales valor para tomar decisiones difíciles; dales firmeza para que puedan resistir las presiones de nuestra cultura hacia los valores de Dios; dales energía física y resistencia para que superen incluso al adolescente más ocupado; dales sabiduría más allá de su propia capacidad para saber cuándo escuchar y cuándo hablar; dales fe para guiar a sus hijos hacia una relación personal y llena de confianza en Jesús.

Por favor, dale a todas las madres el gozo de moldear la vida de sus hijos, la esperanza en sus días oscuros; y sobre todo, un amor dispuesto al sacrificio.

¿Quién es la verdadera fuente de Oposición?

“Cuando corrijas a tus enemigos, hazlo con humildad… Se darán cuenta entonces de que cayeron en una trampa del diablo, y lograrán escapar ”. 2 Timoteo 2:25-26 (TLA)

Cuando te enfrentas a la oposición a causa de tu fe, necesitas reconocer su origen.

No son las demás personas. No son tus compañeros de trabajo. No es un partido político. No es ninguna otra nación o religión. No es un competidor. La presión que sientes para rendirte o quedarte quieto o sentarte cuando deberías estar firme –esa presión no viene de otras personas. Realmente viene de Satanás.

En Apocalipsis 12:10. Satanás es llamado el acusador de los cristianos. Su trabajo número uno es derribarte.

Hay una batalla invisible alrededor tuyo. Esta presión para evitar que hagas lo correcto no viene en realidad de otras personas. Ellos solo son instrumentos. La mayoría del tiempo ni siquiera saben que están siendo utilizados. El verdadero problema es la batalla espiritual.

Efesios 6:12 dice, “Porque nuestra lucha no es contra seres humanos, sino contra… fuerzas espirituales malignas en las regiones celestiales” (NVI).

Satanás sabe que es inútil atacar a Jesucristo directamente, así que, en lugar de eso ataca a los seguidores de Jesús. Él usa los medios de comunicación, la música, la cultura popular y cualquier cosa que pueda hacer para ridiculizar a quienes pertenecen a Jesús. Él está detrás de las voces diciendo: “Esos cristianos son obsoletos. Ellos están del lado equivocado de la historia. Ellos no saben de lo que están hablando. Son fanáticos”.

 Esto es lo que la Biblia dice que debes hacer: “Cuando corrijas a tus enemigos, hazlo con humildad… Se darán cuenta entonces de que cayeron en una trampa del diablo, y lograrán escapar” 2 Timoteo 2:25-26 (TLA).

Si no tienes el Espíritu Santo en tu vida, entonces no tienes defensa contra Satanás. Satanás puede dominar tus estados de ánimo, puede hacerte entrar en depresión, puede hacerte enojar.

Puedes creer que eres fuerte, pero no lo suficiente para defenderte por tu propia cuenta de los ataques de Satanás. Lo que necesitas es reconocer el origen —el mal, no la persona— y tratar a la oposición de la misma manera que Jesús lo hizo.

¿Cómo trató Jesús a aquellos que se oponían a Él? Incluso en la cruz dijo, “Padre, perdónalos. Porque no sabe lo que hacen”.

Las personas que te atacan no saben lo que están haciendo. Las personas que menosprecian a Jesús, la iglesia y al cristianismo, tampoco saben lo que están haciendo.

Al igual que Jesús, necesitas orar, “Padre, perdónalos” para que puedas demostrar amor aún bajo ataque y para que puedas tener más energía para pelear contra el verdadero enemigo.

To Achieve Your Dream, Give It Up

“I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."

Philippians 4:12-13 (NLT)

You’ll never achieve your dream until you learn to give it up. It sounds counterintuitive, but it’s true! When it comes to your dream, surrendering it to Jesus is always the safest decision you’ll ever make.

God typically takes your dream through six different stages. I’ve seen him do it countless times—in my own life and in the lives of others.

Stage 1: God gives you a dream.Stage 2: You decide to go after the dream.Stage 3: Your dream is delayed.Stage 4: Your dream encounters difficulties.Stage 5: Your dream hits a dead end.Stage 6: God delivers your dream.

During each of these stages, you’re continuing to work on your dream. And at the same time, God is working on you.

More than anything else, God wants you to trust him. The apostle Paul says it like this: “I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:12-13 NLT).

The Bible says emphatically that you can do anything, as long as you do it with God’s help or, as Paul says, “through Christ, who gives me strength.” You’ll need much more than positive thinking as you pursue your God-given dreams. You’ll need the power of God.

Many people have read one motivational book after another and still haven’t made progress toward their dreams. That’s because you don’t need stronger motivation. You need God’s supernatural help.

Have you been trying to make your dreams set sail on your own power? If so, I guarantee you’re getting nowhere—at least on the dreams that really matter in your life. When you’re the one powering it, the wind is dead.

Surrender your dreams to God. Let him give them the power to set sail.

Nunca te Avergüences por Defender la Verdad

“No es nada vergonzoso sufrir por ser cristianos. ¡Alaben a Dios por el privilegio de que los llamen por el nombre de Cristo!”. 1 Pedro 4:16 (NTV)

Nunca debes avergonzarte por defender la verdad y hacer lo correcto. La Biblia dice en 1 Pedro 4:16 “No es nada vergonzoso sufrir por ser cristianos. ¡Alaben a Dios por el privilegio de que los llamen por el nombre de Cristo!” (NTV).

Permíteme preguntarte algo: ¿Un insulto te va a matar? No. ¿Te va a matar un desprecio? No. ¿Te va a herir alguien que te ponga un apodo o te etiquete porque has defendido a Cristo? No. ¿Te va a matar un instigador en las redes sociales que está tratando de provocarte y meterte en una discusión? No. No te va a matar.

Es vital que entiendas una verdad que liberará tu vida: No necesitas la aprobación de otras personas para ser feliz.

Tal vez has estado intentando obtener la aprobación de ciertas personas durante muchos años. Odio decírtelo, pero si no la has obtenido hasta ahora, no la vas a obtener. ¡La buena noticia es que no lo necesitas! No necesitas la aprobación de nadie para ser feliz.

No importa lo que hagas en la vida, a alguien no le va a gustar. No puedes evitar la desaprobación. Así que, si vas a tener la desaprobación de la gente de cualquier forma, sería mejor tener la desaprobación al hacer las cosas correctas en vez de las incorrectas.

Algo importante para recordar mientras enfrentas la oposición. Si la opinión de otras personas te importa más que la opinión de Dios, entonces vas a derrumbarte cuando esas personas te ataquen debido a tu fe en Jesús. Pero si te enfocas en Dios y en lo que sabes que es correcto, entonces puedes hacer una firme defensa.

“Manténganse firmes contra él [Satanás] y sean fuertes en su fe. Recuerden que su familia de creyentes en todo el mundo también está pasando por el mismo sufrimiento” 1 Pedro 5:9 (NTV).

Choose to Live Your Dreams

“We are each responsible for our own conduct."

Galatians 6:5 (NLT)

People deal with their dreams in one of three ways: They accuse, they excuse, or they choose.

Accusers spend their entire lives blaming others for why they haven’t achieved their dreams. Excusers make excuses for why they are not living their dreams.

Choosers do what it takes to live their dreams.

The Bible says that you were created in the image of God. The ability to choose is the quintessential characteristic that separates people from animals. It’s one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. But since free choice means you’re equally able to make bad choices, it’s also your greatest curse.

Choosers take the responsibility for their choices and the direction of their lives. They don’t blame others or make excuses. The Bible says in Galatians 6:5, “We are each responsible for our own conduct” (NLT).

Instead of complaining that you haven’t achieved your dreams, take the responsibility for what hasn’t been done. Your good and bad choices have a far greater impact on your ability to achieve your dreams than any other factor.

I’ve met people who were given nothing in life but achieved far beyond their dreams. I’ve also met people who were given everything they needed and wanted on a silver platter and yet wasted their lives.

You can’t control your circumstances. But you can control how you respond to those circumstances.

Proverbs 22:13 says, “The lazy man is full of excuses” (TLB). Don’t be that person. Stop making excuses for your unrealized dreams.

Make the choice today to do something about the dreams God has given you.

Make a Choice for Christ

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, God offers you a second chance. He knows everything you’ve ever done wrong, every failure you’ve experienced, and he still loves you and cares for you.

He doesn’t expect you to earn your way into his good graces; you are saved by God’s gift of grace when you place your faith in his Son, Jesus Christ. If you are ready to accept God’s grace through Jesus, then pray this simple prayer:

"Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust him as my Savior and follow him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cómo Dios usa el Dolor para Ayudarnos a Crecer

“Sabemos que Dios dispone todas las cosas para el bien de quienes lo aman”. Romanos 8:28 (NVI)

El duelo, la pérdida y el dolor son parte inevitable de la vida. ¿Pero sabías que Dios usa estas cosas para ayudarnos a crecer? Lo hace de tres maneras.

Primero, Dios usa el dolor para llamar nuestra atención. C. S. Lewis escribió: “Dios nos susurra en nuestros placeres, habla a nuestra conciencia, pero grita en nuestro dolor”. El dolor es el megáfono de Dios. Rara vez cambiamos cuando vemos la luz. Cambiamos cuando sentimos el calor. A veces necesitamos experimentar el dolor para poder cambiar.

Segundo, Dios saca lo bueno de lo malo. Uno de los versículos más famosos de la Biblia es Romanos 8:28: “Sabemos que Dios dispone todas las cosas para el bien de quienes lo aman”. Cuando experimentas una pérdida, es una oportunidad para crecer en carácter. No puedes controlar el dolor por el que pasas, pero puedes decidir si te llenará de amargura o te ayudará a ser mejor. Tú decides si va a ser un escalón o un obstáculo. Tienes que recordar que incluso en tu dolor, Dios está trabajando para tu bien.

Tercero, Dios nos prepara para la eternidad. La Biblia dice en: 2 Corintios 4:17-18 “Pues esta aflicción leve y pasajera nos produce un eterno peso de gloria que sobrepasa toda comparación al no poner nuestra vida en las cosas que se ven, sino en las cosas que no se ven; porque las cosas que se ven son temporales, pero las que no se ven son eternas” (NTV). Probablemente me has escuchado decir antes que no vas a llevar tu auto al Cielo. No vas a llevar tu porcelana o tu ropa al Cielo; No vas a llevar tu carrera al Cielo. Pero si vas a llevar tu carácter. Te estás llevando a ti mismo.

Dios está más interesado en desarrollar tu carácter que en tu comodidad. ¿Por qué? Porque puedes estar cómodo en el Cielo, pero esta es la etapa de preparación. Esta es la etapa de aprendizaje. Este es el acto de entrenamiento. Dios usa tus problemas aquí en la Tierra para prepararte para una gloria eterna. Eso es un consuelo.

Cuando estás pasando por dolor, debes preguntar: “¿Qué está haciendo Dios?” ¿Él está tratando de llamar tu atención? ¿Está tratando de sacar lo bueno de lo malo? ¿Está preparando tu carácter para el Cielo?

What Are You Doing with Your Dream?

“Be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools; be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good."

Ephesians 5:15-16 (TLB)

Everyone has a dream. Maybe you’ve had it since you were a child. Maybe it came to you more recently. Desires, wishes, and ambitions are part of every person’s life. You may have hidden it deep inside of you, but, somewhere, you have a dream.

So, the question isn’t whether you have a dream. Rather, the question is this: What are you doing with your dream?

Most dreams never come true. It’s not that you’re not smart enough, not outgoing enough, or not spiritual enough. Usually, dreams don’t come true because you’re unwilling to take the necessary risks to reach them.

The Bible shares a sad one-sentence commentary about a king who failed to achieve an important ambition in his life: “[King] Jehoshaphat built a fleet of trading ships to go to Ophir for gold, but they never set sail—they were wrecked at Ezion Geber” (1 Kings 22:48 NIV).

While it’s a tragedy for your ship to never come in, it’s a greater tragedy for you to build a ship and never set sail. Imagine the energy and expense expended by King Jehoshaphat. He built an entire fleet of ships to go after the gold, and not one of them set sail. They never even got out of the harbor! Evidently a storm came up while these ships were still in the harbor; they slammed against the rocks and were destroyed.

Some people spend their whole lives waiting for their ship to come in. But God isn’t waiting for your ship to come in. He’s waiting for you to sail your ship out of the harbor.

I knew a man who for 30 years had a dream of starting a ministry. He talked about it, dreamed about it, and planned it. He spent a great deal of time on this dream, but he never took the risk to do anything more about it. He never got his ship out of the harbor. Eventually, the man died—and so did his dream.

The Bible’s antidote to that kind of tragic procrastination is as simple as an overdone catchphrase but excruciatingly difficult to apply at times: Just do it. The Bible says, “Be careful how you act; these are difficult days. Don’t be fools; be wise: make the most of every opportunity you have for doing good” (Ephesians 5:15-16 TLB).

The Bible urges you to seize the moment and act now. Living with unfulfilled dreams is a tragedy. Ships aren’t made for the harbor. They’re made to set sail.
