La Gran Comisión no es una Sugerencia

“Jesús se acercó y dijo a sus discípulos: «Se me ha dado toda autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra. Por lo tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. Enseñen a los nuevos discípulos a obedecer todos los mandatos que les he dado. Y tengan por seguro esto: que estoy con ustedes siempre, hasta el fin de los tiempos» ”. Mateo 28:18-20 (NTV)

El mundo entero necesita a Jesús.

Jesús dijo esto muy claramente una y otra vez, y en Mateo 28: 18-20 les dio a sus seguidores la Gran Comisión: “Jesús se acercó y dijo a sus discípulos: «Se me ha dado toda autoridad en el cielo y en la tierra. Por lo tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. Enseñen a los nuevos discípulos a obedecer todos los mandatos que les he dado. Y tengan por seguro esto: que estoy con ustedes siempre, hasta el fin de los tiempos»” (NTV).

¿Cuál es tu tarea? “Ir”.

¡Esto no es una sugerencia! No es opcional. Si eres un hijo de Dios, Dios espera que vayas.

¿Cuál es la tarea? Ve y haz discípulos. Un discípulo es alguien que hace las cinco cosas para las que fuimos puestos en la Tierra: conocer y amar a Dios, crecer hasta la madurez espiritual, servir a Dios a través del ministerio, compartir las Buenas Nuevas y adorar a Dios con todo su corazón.

¿Cuál es tu autoridad? No es un gobierno o un movimiento político. Es Jesús.

¿Cuál es tu responsabilidad? ¿Se supone que debes ir y hacer discípulos en algunas naciones? No. Todas las naciones. ¿Eso incluye naciones que son abiertamente hostiles a los creyentes? Sí. ¿Países donde hay agitación política? Sí. No hay nación que esté fuera de los límites.

¿Qué significa para ti? Si el mundo entero necesita a Jesús, entonces debes compartir las Buenas Nuevas. Si conocieras la cura para el Alzheimer, el SIDA o el cáncer, sería imperdonable no compartirla.

Pero tienes algo incluso mejor que una cura para la enfermedad. Conoces la cura para el corazón humano y las necesidades más profundas de la humanidad. Necesitan un Salvador. Necesitan perdón. Necesitan el perdón de su pasado, un propósito para vivir y un hogar en el Cielo. No puedes retenerlo. ¡Tienes que compartirlo!

Juan 3:17 dice: “Dios no envió a su Hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo, sino para salvarlo por medio de él” (NTV).

Quiero ser como Jesús. Quiero que seas como Jesús. Deja de preocuparte por el partido político al que perteneces o cómo puedes salir adelante en la vida. Simplemente ocúpate compartiendo las Buenas Nuevas.

Giving Grows Your Faith

“Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.”

Philippians 2:4-5 (NLT)

Every time you show generosity out of a loving heart, you strengthen your faith and become more like Jesus.

That’s because every time you’re generous, a change takes place in you. Every time you give, your heart moves another notch up the dial toward God. You become more loving. You become more like Jesus.

Philippians 1:11 says, “May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God” (NLT).

God wants you to learn that you can give without loving—but you cannot love without giving.

You say, “I really love my kids!” But do you give them your time? You say, “I really love my wife.” But do you give her your attention?

This is what love is all about. You become more loving—and, therefore, more like Jesus—when you become more generous.

What we’re talking about here is extremely countercultural. Society does not tell you to give; our culture constantly tells you to get. It’s an “all about me” world—me, my stuff, my needs—me, me, me.

But when you’re generous, it takes the focus off you so you can think about others. Philippians 2:4-5 says, “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had” (NLT).

Showing generosity also strengthens your faith. When you use your resources to help others, instead of using them on yourself, you have to depend on God to help you.

When you choose to help a friend who’s having a tough time paying his bills, you have to learn to trust God to provide for you. When you use your time to help your neighbor, you have to trust God to make it work so you can get your stuff done too.

Your faith is strengthened when you depend on God in those situations and trust him.

Philippians 4:6 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (NLT).

Once, during a time of special giving at Saddleback Church, before I had written any books, God led Kay and me to give away our salary over a three-year period. For those three years, we had to trust God to somehow provide income. And he did.

Each time God tested us, and we remained faithful, our faith became stronger as we saw God provided faithfully. God will do the same for you when you give generously.

Talk It Over

What have you learned about God as you have become more generous?
When have you had to trust God to provide for you as a result of your generosity?
How has another person’s generosity drawn you closer to Jesus?

Have you trusted Jesus with your life?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. You cannot earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to confess your sins and to trust Jesus with your life, start with this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in Jesus, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I submit to Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Jesus, I want to follow you and serve you. I humbly commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.”

Aprende a Amar a la Familia de Dios

“Ahora te digo que tú eres Pedro (que significa “roca”), y sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia, y el poder de la muerte no la conquistará”. Mateo 16:18 (NTV)

Solo la iglesia durará para siempre.

Hay muchas cosas que deseamos que duren para siempre. Pero la Biblia nos dice que nada más va a durar. Ningún negocio va a durar para siempre. Ningún gobierno va a durar para siempre. Ninguna nación va a durar para siempre. Solo la iglesia va a durar para siempre.

Jesús dijo en Mateo 16:18, “Sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia, y el poder de la muerte no la conquistará” (NTV). La iglesia es la idea más magnífica que Dios o cualquier ser humano jamás haya pensado.

El universo entero fue creado para la familia de Dios. ¿Cómo se llama la familia de Dios? Se llama, Iglesia.

La iglesia no es un edificio. La iglesia es la familia de Dios. Dios quería una familia, así que decidió crear todo el universo, solo para poder crear la Tierra, solo para poder crear seres humanos, solo para que pudiéramos tener la libre elección de elegirlo o rechazarlo. Dios sabía que algunos de nosotros elegiríamos devolverle Su amor, y Él nos llevará al Cielo, para que seamos parte de su familia para siempre.

¿Qué significa esto para ti si ya estás en la familia de Dios? Significa que, dado que todos vamos a vivir juntos para siempre, es mejor que aprendamos a llevarnos bien. Mientras estés aquí en la Tierra, debes amar a la familia de Dios.

Eso es correcto. No es suficiente amar a Dios. Debes amar a la iglesia. ¿Quieres saber cuánto ama Dios a la iglesia? Murió por eso. Cualquiera que diga: “Amo a Jesús, pero no necesito la iglesia” no lo entiende. Esa persona es un creyente inmaduro. Mucha gente usa la iglesia, pero no la ama.

¿Amas la iglesia? ¿O simplemente usas la iglesia?

Cristo murió por la iglesia. Él quiere que aprendamos a amar y apoyarnos en cada creyente en el cuerpo de Cristo, porque nos necesitamos unos a otros. Cuando amamos y servimos a la iglesia y trabajamos juntos para cumplir la misión de Dios en el mundo, probamos el Cielo y una comprensión más profunda del amor de Dios.

Learn to Love by Being Generous

“I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me . . . They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.”

Philippians 4:18 (NLT)

Life is not about things. It’s about learning how to love.

One of the best ways to learn to love is through generosity—giving your time, money, effort, and energy. When you’re generous, you’re affirming that God and people matter most to you. In other words, what matters most is love.

Every time you give—whether that’s giving your time, your money, your effort, or your energy—you reveal what matters to you. Tell me how you spend your money and your time, and I’ll tell you what matters most to you.

Does your schedule reveal that your career matters most to you? Does your bank statement show that your hobby is most important? Or does how you spend your money and time show that loving God and people matters most to you?

If at the end of your life you’ve acquired a giant pile of things but you’re estranged from your family and friends, you’ve missed the point! You’ve missed the opportunity to love through your generosity.

But when you spend your life building generously into people and relationships, you’re living in the light of heaven. You’re living in love.

Think about the people you’re most grateful for from your own life. Most of those are probably people who have invested time, money, effort, or energy in you.

Paul gives an example of this: “You have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News . . . No other church did this . . . At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me . . . They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God” (Philippians 4:14-15, 18 NLT).

The people Paul was writing to had learned this truth: You earn a living by what you make, but you earn the respect and gratitude of others by what you give out of a loving heart.

Take some time today to reflect on the people who’ve been generous to you. Then use them as a model for how you can be generous to others.

Todo se Trata de Dios

“Pues todas las cosas provienen de él y existen por su poder y son para su gloria. ¡A él sea toda la gloria por siempre! Amén”. Romanos 11:36 (NTV)

No se trata de ti.

Se trata de Dios.

Esos dos van juntos. La razón por la que no se trata de ti es porque se trata de Dios.

Cuando comprendas esto, la vida tendrá sentido. Cuando comprendas esto, me vas a entender. El objetivo de mi vida no es el placer, las posesiones, el prestigio, la política, el poder o la popularidad. No es nada que el mundo valore. La meta de mi vida es la gloria de Dios.

Romanos 11:36 dice: “Pues todas las cosas provienen de él y existen por su poder y son para su gloria. ¡A él sea toda la gloria por siempre! Amén” (NTV). Todo en el planeta y en el universo fue creado para la gloria de Dios.

¿Cuál es la implicación de eso?

Si todo se trata de Dios y no se trata solo de ti, o de ganar dinero o ser popular o cualquiera de esas otras cosas que el mundo cree que son importantes, entonces la implicación es que amar a Dios es tu prioridad. Jesús lo dijo así: “ ‘Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente’. Este es el primer mandamiento y el más importante” Mateo 22: 37-38 (NTV).

¡Nada supera esta verdad, amigos! Si te pierdes esto, has desperdiciado tu vida. Lo más importante en la vida es amar y conocer al Dios que te creó.

¿Cómo haces eso? Empieza por leer Su Palabra, la Biblia. No siempre es fácil tomarse un tiempo para el estudio de la Biblia, pero cuando lo hagas, aprenderás más acerca de Dios y descubrirás que tu amor por Él se profundiza. Y, a medida que empieces a comprender que tu vida se trata de Dios, no de ti, encontrarás más gozo en la búsqueda de Él.

Stress Management Starts in the Mind

“Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.”

Philippians 4:8 (NCV)

The battle with stress in your life begins between your ears. It’s in your thought life. What you fill your mind with determines your level of stress. If you want peace of mind, you have to control what you allow into your mind.

For most people, the mind is like a freeway. They let anything drive through it. They watch shows that are full of junk and nonsense, scroll through social media sites that are polarizing, and listen to gossip that makes them envious. Then they’re surprised when their mind’s freeway becomes polluted with all of these things. And they wonder why their stress is so high.

The Bible offers another way. Philippians 4:8 says, “Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected” (NCV).

To lower your stress, change what you think about. In this verse, the Bible gives you eight tests for deciding if you should allow something in your mind. Ask yourself:

Is it good? Is it worthy of praise? Is it true? Is it honorable? Is it right? Is it pure? Is it beautiful? Is it respected?

Think about the course of your week—the conversations you have, the books you read, the songs you listen to, the websites you scroll, the TV and movies you watch, and the things you do with your free time. How do all of these things hold up to that eight-question test? Are the things you’re putting into your mind all week good, worthy of praise, true, honorable, right, pure, beautiful, and respected?

If not, it’s time to start filling your mind with different things.

Each one of those eight attributes actually describes God. So when you think about things that are good, worthy of praise, true, honorable, right, pure, beautiful, and respected, you’re really picturing God.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (NLT).

Corrie ten Boom—a Dutch Christian during World War II—knew the truth of that verse. She and her family hid Jews from the Nazis and were eventually sent to death camps, where her sister and father died. But through that horrible time, she discovered the secret of living with a mind at peace. She said it like this: “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed.  But if you look at Christ, you’ll be at rest.”   

Whatever is going on around you, and the things you choose to think about, determine how much stress you feel. If you fix your thoughts on God, he will keep you in perfect peace.

Nada puede Separarte del Amor de Dios

“Por lo tanto, yo, prisionero por servir al Señor, les suplico que lleven una vida digna del llamado que han recibido de Dios, porque en verdad han sido llamados” . Efesios 4:1 (NTV)

Dios nunca dejará de amarte. Siempre serás amado. Nada puede destruir tu relación con Dios. Si comprendes este hecho, cambiará tu vida.

Romanos 8: 38-39 dice: “Y estoy convencido de que nada podrá jamás separarnos del amor de Dios. Ni la muerte ni la vida, ni ángeles ni demonios, ni nuestros temores de hoy ni nuestras preocupaciones de mañana. Ni siquiera los poderes del infierno pueden separarnos del amor de Dios. Ningún poder en las alturas ni en las profundidades, de hecho, nada en toda la creación podrá jamás separarnos del amor de Dios, que está revelado en Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor” (NTV).

Cuando pones tu mano en la mano de Dios, Él nunca la suelta. Es posible que a veces sientas ganas de soltarte. Pero Dios nunca lo hará. Estás eternamente seguro.

Una vez que naces en una familia, no puedes nacer fuera de ella. Una vez que naces de nuevo, no puedes nacer fuera de la familia de Dios. Una vez que tu nombre está escrito en el libro eterno de la vida, no se puede borrar. Es tinta indeleble.

No importa cuántas dudas o miedos tengas o cuántos pecados cometas. Si pones tu confianza en Cristo, Él dice que nada, ¡nada! Te separará de Su amor. No importa lo que enfrentes en la vida, nunca lo enfrentarás solo.

Estas son las buenas noticias: estás perdonado y eres libre. Dios está contigo y nunca dejará de amarte.

Comprender estas Buenas Nuevas es lo más importante para ti y para todas las demás personas de este planeta. Es por eso que miles de personas se han comprometido a orar y donar a Esperanza Diaria, para que podamos difundir este mensaje de esperanza. Es por eso que se construyó la iglesia Saddleback. Es por eso que capacitamos a pastores de todo el mundo. Es por eso que hacemos ministerio de estudiantes, ministerio de niños y cientos de otros ministerios.

Y es por eso que muchas otras iglesias en todo el mundo están haciendo cosas similares todos los días. Porque nadie más puede ofrecer lo que Jesucristo ofrece: una vida de libertad, perdón, poder, paz y propósito que durará por la eternidad.

¿Cuál debería ser tu respuesta? “Por lo tanto, yo, prisionero por servir al Señor, les suplico que lleven una vida digna del llamado que han recibido de Dios, porque en verdad han sido llamados” Efesios 4:1 (NTV).

Vive de una manera que valga la pena. Vive con esperanza y comparte esa esperanza con los demás.

Worry About Nothing; Pray About Everything

“Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?”

Romans 8:32 (NLT)

Anytime I needed something when I was a kid, I’d talk to my dad. Sometimes I needed something expensive, but not once did I worry about where my father was going to get the money for whatever I needed. That wasn’t my job! It was my dad’s job to figure out where the money would come from. It was my job as a kid to simply ask.

In the same way, it’s not your job to figure out how God’s going to provide. It’s your job to ask.

When you worry instead of asking, you’re acting like an atheist, like someone who believes they don’t have a heavenly Father. Worry is practical atheism—living your life like God doesn’t exist or can’t be trusted.

The Bible is clear: God wants you to come to him in prayer about everything. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God” (NIV).

Worry less—and ask more. Instead of worrying, pray about everything.

As Philippians 4:6 says, “Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests” (GW). 

Did you catch that? God wants you to come to him “in every situation.” You can talk to him about everything—no matter how big or small it seems to you.

Romans 8:32 says, “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (NLT).

God has solved your biggest problem—sin—and everything else is small by comparison.

If God loved you enough to send Jesus to die for your sins, don’t you think he loves you enough to help you with your finances? Don’t you think he loves you enough to help you with your health? With your relationships? With career decisions? With your deadline?

God is interested in every single area of your life. In fact, he already knows what you need—but he still wants you to ask him for it.

Are you ready to reduce the stress in your life? God is waiting for you to come to him with your needs. Choose to worry about nothing—and pray about everything.

What keeps you from asking God for the things that you need?
Think of a time that God clearly answered one of your prayers. How does that answered prayer encourage you to keep praying about other needs in your life?

“El Espíritu de Dios, quien levantó a Jesús de los muertos, vive en ustedes; y así como Dios levantó a Cristo Jesús de los muertos, él dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales mediante el mismo Espíritu, quien vive en ustedes”. Romanos 8:11 (NTV)

Como creyentes, tenemos esperanza porque vamos a vivir para siempre. La muerte no es el fin. ¡Hay más en la historia!

Un día tu corazón dejará de latir y ese será el final de tu cuerpo. Pero no será tu fin. Fuiste creado a imagen de Dios. Fuiste hecho para durar para siempre. Esto no es todo lo que hay.

¿Por qué tenemos esperanza? Porque no importa lo mal que parezca en la tierra, es solo por un tiempo. Cuando tienes fe en Jesús, sabes que vas a pasar billones de años al otro lado de la eternidad sin más dolor, sin más tristeza, sin más enfermedad, sin más sufrimiento.

La Biblia dice en Romanos 8:11, “El Espíritu de Dios, quien levantó a Jesús de los muertos, vive en ustedes; y así como Dios levantó a Cristo Jesús de los muertos, él dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales mediante el mismo Espíritu, quien vive en ustedes” (NTV).

Como pastor, he estado junto a la tumba de cientos de familias y conozco la diferencia entre las personas con esperanza y las que no. Puedes verlo en sus ojos. He visto el terror en los ojos de personas sin esperanza. Están pensando: “Esto es todo lo que tengo. Se acabó. Nunca volveré a ver a esta persona. Se acabo. Eso es todo lo que hay en la vida”.

Lo comparo con los miles de personas que he visto en los funerales de un creyente. Saben que esto es solo un paso de transición. ¡Su ser querido está entrando en la vida real! Estarán con Dios por la eternidad. Hay dolor, por supuesto, pero también esperanza, porque saben que algún día se reunirán con su amado que siguió a Jesús. Para un creyente, la muerte no es salir de casa, es un regreso a casa.

¿Tienes esa esperanza sabiendo que pasarás la eternidad con Jesucristo? Si no es así, no te demores. Toma esa decisión hoy.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

La salvación en Jesucristo marca la diferencia en la eternidad. Pero ¿cómo afecta también la forma en que vives tu vida en la tierra?¿De qué has sido liberado en esta vida debido a tu salvación?¿Con quién puedes compartir hoy acerca de la esperanza que tienes a través de Cristo?

Cómo puedes estar seguro de tu eternidad.

Una vez que confías en Jesús, puedes estar absolutamente seguro de que pasarás la eternidad con Él. Si estás listo para dar ese paso, haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, me has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que hice mal será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el Cielo. Confieso mi pecado y creo que tú eres Dios, mi Salvador. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy, te entrego cada parte de mi vida. Quiero seguirte y hacer lo que me digas que haga.

Jesús, estoy agradecido por tu amor y tu sacrificio que me permite unirme a ti en el Cielo. Sé que no me lo merezco. Y te agradezco que no tengo que ganarme ni trabajar para mi salvación, porque sé que eso es imposible. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Humildemente te entrego mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En el nombre de Jesús oro. Amén”.

Give Your Worry to God

“Don’t worry about anything.”

Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

Work doesn’t keep you up at night; worry does.

In the Bible, God gives clear direction about the role worry should play in your life. Philippians 4:6 says, “Don’t worry about anything” (NLT).

Why do you need to let go of your worry?

Worry is unreasonable. Here are a couple of reasons why that’s true. First, worry exaggerates the problem. Have you noticed that, if somebody says something bad about you, the more you think about it, the bigger it gets? Second, worry doesn’t work. To worry about something you can’t change is useless. And to worry about something you can change is a waste of time; just go change it!

Worry is unnatural. No one is a born worrier. You might think you are, but you’re not. Worry is something you learned. Since worry is unnatural, it’s also unhealthy. Your body wasn’t designed to handle worry. When people say, “I’m worried sick,” they’re telling the truth. Doctors say that a lot of people could leave the hospital today if they knew how to get rid of guilt, resentment, and worry. Proverbs 14:30 says, “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body” (NLT).

Worry is unhelpful. Worry cannot change the past, and worry cannot control the future. All it does is mess up today. The only thing that worry changes is you. It makes you miserable! It’s never solved a problem.

Worry is unnecessary. God made you, he created you, he saved you, and he put his Spirit in you. Don’t you think he’s going to take care of your needs? There’s no need to worry.

Want to learn to better manage your stress? A great first step is to refuse to worry about anything. Why? Because worry is unreasonable, unnatural, unhelpful, and unnecessary.

The Bible says, “You can throw the whole weight of your anxieties upon him, for you are his personal concern” (1 Peter 5:7 PHILLIPS).

God personally cares about you and for your needs. So what should you do with all those things you’re stressed, anxious, and worried about? Let them go. Give them to God.
