Dos Pasos para Manejar la Tentación

“Pónganse la salvación como casco y tomen la espada del Espíritu, la cual es la palabra de Dios”. Efesios 6:17 (NTV)

Si quieres ser capaz de manejar la tentación, necesitas reclamar las promesas de Dios que Él ha dado en su Palabra acerca de la tentación. Todos deben memorizar 1 Corintios 10:13: “Dios es fiel y no permitirá que ustedes sean tentados más allá de lo que puedan aguantar. Más bien, cuando llegue la tentación, él les dará también una salida a fin de que puedan resistir” (NVI).

Si la gente me dijera, “No lo pude evitar. Fue imposible de resistir. No tuve más remedio que ceder”. ¡Cuando dices eso, le estás llamando mentiroso a Dios! Dios dice que siempre ofrecerá un escape de la tentación que enfrentas. Puede ser difícil y doloroso. Incluso podría ser vergonzoso. Pero siempre habrá una salida. ¡Dios se asegura de ello! Esa es su promesa.

Satanás está constantemente luchando por tu mente. Ahí es donde ocurre la batalla. Cuando Dios nos da una idea, eso es inspiración. Cuando el Diablo nos da una idea, eso es tentación. Tú eliges todos los días en que pensamientos vas a habitar.

Puedes cambiar de opinión reemplazando la tentación por la verdad, y la verdad se encuentra en la Biblia.

La Biblia dice que resistas al Diablo. ¿Cómo lo haces? Preparándote para la tentación. Efesios 6:17 dice: “Pónganse la salvación como casco y tomen la espada del Espíritu, la cual es la palabra de Dios” (NTV).

Hay dos cosas que debes hacer para manejar la tentación. La salvación es el primer paso: “Pónganse la salvación como casco”. ¿Qué hace un casco? Protege tu cabeza y tu mente, y ahí es donde la batalla se está llevando a cabo. Antes de que puedas decir no al diablo, tienes que aprender a decir sí a Jesucristo. Tienes que tener Su poder a través de la salvación.

El segundo paso es recibir la Palabra de Dios para usarla como espada. La verdad es el antídoto contra la tentación. Puedes tener tu Biblia abierta y a la vista en casa, pero cuando estés en el trabajo y estés siendo tentado, ¿de qué te va a servir? ¡No sirve de nada! Necesitas tener la verdad que está en la Biblia, en tu mente.

Sin duda, la herramienta más eficaz para combatir la tentación es memorizar la Escritura. Si no tienes versículos memorizados, ¡no tienes arma para la pelea! Cuando venga el diablo, ¿cómo vas a contrarrestarlo? Él no le teme a tu opinión, pero sí le teme a la verdad. La espada de Dios es la verdad de Dios, pero sólo se convierte en un arma cuando la memorizas.

How to Build a Dream for Your Life

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV)

As you look to God to do great things in your life, there are two facts you need to understand about the dreams he gives you.

First, no dream is built without the support of others. Just like a building needs support, your dream needs support. True success is never a one-man show. Anything significant you do in life will require help from others. God intentionally wired us to need each other so we will learn how to work together.

The Bible says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV).

Why can’t you go after your dream by yourself? Here are three reasons:

You don’t know everything you need to know.You don’t have enough time or energy to do everything by yourself.You don’t have every talent you’re going to need to accomplish your dream.

The bottom line is this: It takes a team to fulfill a dream.

Second, no dream is ever built without opposition. The moment you decide to go after the dream God gives you, someone will try to discourage you. The moment you say, “Let’s do this,” they’ll say, “Let’s not!” Dream busters are literally everywhere. They are often resistant to change and feel it’s their job to bring you down.

When Nehemiah made plans to rebuild Jerusalem, Sanballat and Tobiah, two critics of Nehemiah’s plan, “became very angry, because they didn’t want anyone to help the people of Israel” (Nehemiah 2:10 CEV). They mocked and ridiculed Nehemiah and the people’s desire to rebuild.

But Nehemiah didn’t spend much time responding to his critics—and you shouldn’t either. If all you did was respond to what other people think of you, you’d never get anything done. Instead, like Nehemiah, reply simply and move on. Nehemiah said, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding” (Nehemiah 2:20 NIV).

Remember, to fulfill a dream you need a team, and when you pursue a dream, you’ll always find opposition. When you understand these two facts about dream-building, you’ll be better equipped to fulfill God’s plan for your life.

Cuando la Tentación, Llame, simplemente Cuelga

“El sabio teme y se aparta del mal, Pero el necio es arrogante y descuidado”. Proverbios 14:16 (LBLA)

Es de sentido común que, si no quieres ser picado, ¡aléjate de las abejas! Si no quieres quemarte, ¡no te acerques al fuego! Si no quieres caer al abismo, ¡no camines en el borde!

El objetivo no es ver qué tan cerca puedes llegar a la tentación, sino qué tan lejos puedes mantenerte.

Proverbio 14:16 dice: “El sabio teme y se aparta del mal, Pero el necio es arrogante y descuidado” (LBLA). Puedes pensar que puedes manejar la tentación, pero ¿a quién estamos engañando? Necesitas hacer una evaluación franca. Debes analizar cuándo y dónde estás más tentado y vulnerable. Entonces debes mantenerte alejado de esas situaciones tanto como puedas.

La Biblia dice que huyas de la tentación: “Consideré el rumbo de mi vida y decidí volver a tus leyes” Salmo 119:59 (NTV). Si tienes que retirarte físicamente, ¡hazlo! Cuando la esposa de Potifar tentó a José, él dejó su abrigo y se fue. A veces puede que tengas que dejar tu abrigo. Sal de la situación. Huye de eso. No te quedes.

Cuando sientas la tentación, levántate y cambia el canal. O enciende la música. Ir a caminar. Lee la Biblia. Llama a un amigo cristiano en tu grupo pequeño. Haz algo para romper la tentación.

Aquí hay algunos consejos prácticos: nunca intentes discutir con el diablo. Perderás todas las veces. Ha tenido miles de años para pensar y para contrarrestar cualquier cosa que se te ocurra. No lo racionalices. No lo justifiques. No lo discutas. La clave es romper el foco. No mires las galletas y repite: “¡No las quiero! ¡No las quiero! “¡Date la vuelta! Entre más luches contra un sentimiento, más crece en intensidad.

Cuando la tentación te llame, no intentes discutir. Simplemente cuelga y ve a hacer otra cosa.

¿Dónde estás más tentado? ¿En los aeropuertos? ¿En viajes de negocios? ¿En casa cuando estás solo y los niños están en la escuela? ¿Durante el fin de semana? ¿Cuándo miras televisión?¿Qué cambios necesitas hacer en tu horario o estilo de vida para minimizar tu exposición a estas situaciones?¿Qué estrategias pueden ayudarte a “colgarle” a la tentación si no puedes escapar fácilmente de una de esas situaciones?

Seven Steps for Godly Planning

“If the Lord wants us to, we will live and carry out our plans.”

James 4:15 (GW)

We’ve been looking at Nehemiah’s model for making God-inspired plans. So far, we’ve learned five steps:

Step 1: Ask God for favor on your life.
Step 2: Prepare for an opportunity, and then wait.
Step 3: Expect fear, but don’t let it stop you.
Step 4: Establish a clear target.
Step 5: Set a deadline.

Here are Nehemiah’s final two steps in developing a life plan.

Step 6: Anticipate barriers.

Part of the planning process involves anticipating problems. Proverbs 27:12 says, “A sensible man watches for problems ahead and prepares to meet them” (TLB).

Nehemiah thought through all the problems he might face. Then he said to the king, “Would you be willing to give me letters to the governors of the provinces west of the Euphrates River, so that I can travel safely to Judah? I will need timber to rebuild the gates of the fortress near the temple and more timber to construct the city wall and to build a place for me to live. And so, I would appreciate a letter to Asaph, who is in charge of the royal forest” (Nehemiah 2:7-8 CEV).

First, Nehemiah asked the king for permission to go to Jerusalem. Then he asked for protection and provision. Nehemiah was a cupbearer, not a professional builder, yet because he had spent four months praying and planning, he was able to anticipate the barriers, determine his needs, and calculate the cost.

Step 7: Trust God to meet all your needs.

Even when things don’t turn out the way you hoped, you can still trust God. A mark of spiritual maturity is when you recognize that God’s hand is behind the plans that go your way and the plans that don’t go your way. Godly goal setting says, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and carry out our plans” (James 4:15 GW).

The king ended up giving Nehemiah everything he had asked for—and Nehemiah gave God all the credit: “And the king granted these requests, because the gracious hand of God was on me” (Nehemiah 2:8 NLT). Nehemiah didn’t say, “Look at what my planning did.” He said, “Look at what God did.”

What would you like God to do in the next six months, the next year, or the next five years in your life? A great plan starts with these seven steps that Nehemiah followed. Try following them in your own life and see how God works in your life.

Elige la Santidad sobre la Felicidad

“La tentación viene de nuestros propios deseos, los cuales nos seducen y nos arrastran. De esos deseos nacen los actos pecaminosos, y el pecado, cuando se deja crecer, da a luz la muerte”. Santiago 1:14-15 (NTV)

Hoy vivimos en una era de irresponsabilidad, donde nadie quiere admitir que sus problemas son su culpa. Todos nos hemos convertido en víctimas. Ningún problema que tengamos es considerado culpa nuestra; siempre es el problema de otra persona. Culpamos a los demás. Culpamos al gobierno, los medios de comunicación, nuestros padres, las escuelas, nuestro ADN y el medio ambiente, todo menos a nosotros mismos.

La verdad es que traemos la mayoría de nuestros problemas sobre nosotros mismos. Solo tenemos que aceptar la responsabilidad y dejar de culpar a los demás. Cada vez que culpamos a alguien más, no estamos admitiendo cuál es el verdadero problema.

Si estás enfrentando tentación en este momento, nunca encontrarás la libertad hasta que dejes de buscar al culpable y comiences a solucionar el problema. ¡Deja de culpar a otras personas! Incluso cuando otras personas te han lastimado, es tu reacción la que está causando el problema.

Es sorprendente para mí que algunas personas incluso intenten culpar a Dios por el desastre en sus vidas. Pero la voluntad de Dios nunca contradice la Palabra de Dios. Si Dios dice “No hagas eso” en la Biblia, nunca te dirá “sí” a través de un sentimiento. No me importa lo bueno que sea el sentimiento: cuando escuchas tus sentimientos en lugar de la Palabra de Dios, caes directamente en una trampa. Una de las excusas más comunes que he escuchado para justificar una multitud de pecados es: “Dios quiere que yo sea feliz, y esto me hará feliz”.

Dios quiere que seas feliz. Pero Dios quiere que seas santo más de lo que Él quiere que seas feliz. Él quiere que le obedezcas. Nunca serás totalmente feliz si ignoras la voluntad de Dios. De hecho, te diriges a la destrucción cuando haces eso. Las reglas y principios en la Biblia no están ahí solo para hacer la vida miserable. Están ahí por nuestro propio bien.

Las personas más felices del mundo son aquellas que se aferran a lo que Dios dice y lo siguen, independientemente de lo que digan sus sentimientos.

Don’t Let Fear Stop You From Making Plans

“Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.”

Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)

God’s plans and your plans can work together to accomplish the purpose he has for you. Nehemiah is a great example of this. Yesterday we talked about the first two steps Nehemiah took when he made plans toward his goals that would honor God.

Here are three more steps that Nehemiah modeled in developing a life plan.

Step 3: Expect fear, but don’t let it stop you.

When the king saw Nehemiah approaching, he asked him why he looked so sad. In those days, it was a crime to be sad before the king, yet Nehemiah was about to ask for a leave of absence to go to Jerusalem to rebuild the city.

Nehemiah did two things with his fear:

He expressed his feelings. Nehemiah replied, “Long live the king! How can I not be sad? For the city where my ancestors are buried is in ruins” (Nehemiah 2:3 NLT). Admitting how you feel is how you grow.

He prayed quickly before speaking. “The king said to me, ‘What is it you want?’ Then I prayed to the God of heaven” (Nehemiah 2:4 NIV). Sometimes prayer can just be quickly and silently saying, “Help!”

There is a myth that godly people are never afraid. That’s nonsense! Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is moving ahead in spite of your fear.

Step 4: Establish a clear target.

Nehemiah got specific in his request to the king: “If it please the king, and if you are pleased with me, your servant, send me to Judah to rebuild the city” (Nehemiah 2:5 NLT).

To establish a specific goal, you need to ask yourself three questions: What do I want to be? What do I want to do? What do I want to have?

Make sure you let the size of your God determine the size of your goal. A God-sized goal honors God and shows him that you trust him to help you.

Step 5: Set a deadline.

Nehemiah 2:6 says, “Then the king, with the queen sitting beside him, asked me, ‘How long will your journey take, and when will you get back?’ It pleased the king to send me; so I set a time” (NIV). Even though it was ultimately God who orchestrated the timing, Nehemiah still “set a time” so that he had a clear plan.

If your goal doesn’t have a deadline, then it’s not a goal. Ask, “How long is it going to take?” Then put it in your calendar. Remember, a dream without a deadline is an empty wish. It won’t go anywhere.

Talk It Over

After reading today’s devotional, in what ways do you think about your fears differently?
How has God been encouraging you to develop a life plan? Let the following questions guide you: What do I want to be? What do I want to do? What do I want to have?
Deadlines can often inspire dread. How does viewing deadlines in light of God’s purpose change your feelings about them? How are they beneficial when you make plans for your life?

The only way to truly live without fear is to settle your relationship with God. You can do that today by asking Jesus into your life. Start by praying this simple prayer: “God, you promise that if I believe in Jesus, I will be forgiven. I ask for that forgiveness now. I know that I am a sinner and that you are the only one who can cancel the record of all the things I’ve done wrong.

“Jesus Christ, I believe that you died to pay for my sins. I believe that you rose again and took away the power of death so that I can have eternal life with you in heaven. You also took away the power of sin in my life. Please help me to turn away from sin and faithfully follow you as Lord of my life.

“Thank you for saving me. Thank you that I don’t have to work for my salvation and that you gave me your grace, even though I don’t deserve it. Thank you for loving me, saving me, and accepting me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Si Siembras con Generosidad, Cosecharás con Generosidad

“El que siembra escasamente cosechará escasamente, y el que siembra con generosidad también con generosidad cosechará.  Cada uno dé como propuso en su corazón, no con tristeza ni por obligación porque Dios ama al dador alegre”. 2 Corintios 9:6-7 (RVA-2015)

La Biblia dice en 2 Corintios 9:6-7, “El que siembra escasamente cosechará escasamente, y el que siembra con generosidad también con generosidad cosechará.  Cada uno dé como propuso en su corazón, no con tristeza ni por obligación porque Dios ama al dador alegre” (RVA-2015).

El principio de sembrar y cosechar se aplica a todas las áreas de la vida, no solo a tus finanzas. Lo que siembres en la vida, vas a cosechar. Lo que deposites te será devuelto. Si siembras críticas en la vida, cosecharás críticas de otras personas. Si siembras amabilidad, vas a cosechar amabilidad. Es la ley de la cosecha. Si siembras semillas de manzana, no obtienes peras; obtienes manzanas. Si siembras con generosidad, cosecharás generosidad.

Este es el principio de la cosecha: siempre que necesites algo, planta una semilla. Cuando un agricultor mira sus campos estériles, no se queja de eso. Simplemente sale y comienza a plantar algunas semillas. Si solo tiene un poco de semilla, tiene una opción. Puede atesorarla o esparcirla. Si se aferra a eso, eso es todo lo que tendrá. Si la esparces, Dios lo multiplicará. Lo sorprendente es esto: no solo cosechas lo que siembras. ¡Siempre cosecharás más de lo que siembras!

Dios te diseñó de esta manera porque quiere que seas como Él. Dios es un dador. La única forma en que te volverás como Él es aprender a ser generoso. Cuando eres tacaño, eres como el diablo. Cuando eres generoso, eres como Dios. Cuando esparces, Dios lo multiplica.

Esto suena ilógico: esparcir cuando necesitas obtener más. ¡Pero por eso requiere fe! Dios dice que obtienes dando, no acumulando.

¿Cuándo has recibido de Dios y de otros más de lo que diste?¿Cómo debes decidir cuanto dar?¿Qué necesidad tienes en tu vida en este momento? ¿Cómo puedes dar eso a los demás?
