You Can’t Change It, but God Can Use It

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”

Genesis 50:20 (NLT)

Remember the story of Joseph?

His brothers were jealous because he was the favorite son, so they sold Joseph into slavery. He was taken to Egypt, and for the first 40 years of his life, everything went wrong. He was sold into slavery, falsely accused of rape, and thrown in jail for a crime he didn’t commit.

For 40 years, nothing seemed to go right for Joseph—but God put Joseph exactly where he wanted him to be. He knew that Joseph would be raised up to become the second most powerful leader in Egypt, the most powerful nation in the world at that time. And because of that, Joseph was able to save Egypt and Israel from famine.

Not only did he save two nations from starvation, but he also saved his family—the ones who sold him into slavery. When his brothers appeared before him, Joseph could have confronted them and punished them for what they did to him.

But what was Joseph’s attitude toward his brothers? He treated them with grace, not bitterness. He was able to do that because he saw God’s greater perspective and purpose. He knew God could use even the biggest hurts in our lives for good.

Joseph said to his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people” (Genesis 50:20 NLT). God took the terrible sin of Joseph’s brothers and used it to eventually save many people.

There will always be people in your life who have bad intentions, who will resent you, criticize you, and hurt you. There will be times when you are the innocent victim of someone else’s sin. There is no way around it.

You may not understand it—but you don’t have to! You can trust that God sees, he cares, and he will have justice. Like Joseph, maybe you can’t change your circumstances. And maybe you’re wondering how you’re going to make it through or what God is doing.

God can use everything, good or bad, to accomplish his purposes. His good plan to grow your character and make you more like Jesus will not be changed by other people. What others intend for bad, he will use for good.

El Primer Paso Para Tener una Conciencia Limpia

“Examíname, oh, Dios, y conoce mi corazón; pruébame y conoce los pensamientos que me inquietan. Señálame cualquier cosa en mí que te ofenda y guíame por el camino de la vida eterna”. Salmo 139:23-24 (NTV)

El primer paso para una conciencia limpia es hacer una evaluación espiritual personal.

Así es como lo haces. Cuando no tengas prisa, siéntate con Dios en un lugar tranquilo y dile a Dios: “Quiero hacer negocios contigo. Quiero hacer una lista de todo lo que se interpone entre tú y yo. Ayúdame a ver las cosas que sé que están mal y las cosas que no sé qué están mal”.

Pídele a Dios que revele tus pecados. Puedes orar como el salmista: “Examíname, oh, Dios, y conoce mi corazón; pruébame y conoce los pensamientos que me inquietan. Señálame cualquier cosa en mí que te ofenda y guíame por el camino de la vida eterna” Salmo 139:23-24 (NTV). Cuando oras esto, le estás pidiendo a Dios que encuentre las cosas en ti que te han enredado y te están frenando.

Es importante tomarte tu tiempo. ¡No te apresures! No digas: “Dios, tengo cinco minutos para que me reveles todos los pecados que he cometido”. Tómate tu tiempo y asegúrate de escribirlo todo.

¿Por qué es importante escribirlo? La escritura lo hace específico. Los pensamientos se desenredan a través de los labios y las yemas de los dedos, a través de lo que dices y lo que escribes. Si no lo has escrito, no lo has pensado a fondo.

Permíteme hacerte una pregunta muy importante: ¿Qué tan serio eres acerca de querer la bendición de Dios en tu vida? ¿Lo suficiente como para estar dispuesto a ser sincero con Él? ¿Estás dispuesto a ser honesto contigo mismo? ¿Estás dispuesto a ser honesto con otras personas? ¿O simplemente vas a vivir en la negación? La negación y la bendición de Dios no van de la mano.

Si anhelas tener una conciencia tranquila, entonces estás a solo un paso de la liberación, de un sentimiento de alegría como nunca habías experimentado. En el camino, encontrarás la libertad de los hábitos, las heridas y los complejos que están arruinando tu vida.

Por favor, no procrastines. Reserva tiempo esta semana para completar tu evaluación espiritual personal. Es el primer paso para disfrutar de una conciencia tranquila, ¡y cambiará tu vida!

Spiritual Growth Requires Change

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)

God’s purpose in every change in your life is to make you more like Jesus.

The promise of Romans 8:28 is wonderful: “We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (NLT). But it doesn’t make sense until you read the next verse: “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son” (Romans 8:29 NLT).

God doesn’t just want you in his family. He also wants you to develop the family characteristics of a child of God. He wants you to grow spiritually. And your model for maturity is Jesus Christ.

So what is Jesus like? The best picture of Jesus’ character is the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (ESV).

God produces that kind of fruit in you by putting you in situations full of the exact opposite circumstances, where you get a chance to learn and practice these character qualities.

You don’t learn kindness when you’re around the nicest people; you don’t learn contentment when you have everything you want. So when God teaches you how to love, he doesn’t put you around people who are easy to love; he puts you around unlovable people.

Anybody can be happy when everything’s going their way. But God teaches you true joy in the middle of suffering and grief and heartbreak.

It’s easy to be peaceful when there is no struggle in your life. When God teaches you peace, he’ll allow chaos and conflict in your life to teach you the peace that passes understanding.

How does God teach you patience? By placing you in long line at the Department of Motor Vehicles or at a delayed doctor appointment. Anytime you have to wait, God is teaching you patience to make you more like Jesus. 

Change is not always easy, but the big and small ways you’re growing in spiritual maturity will make it worth it.

Dios Bendice lo que le Traes

“Lanza tu pan sobre el agua; después de algún tiempo volverás a encontrarlo”. Eclesiastés 11:1 (NVI)

Todo lo que le das a Dios, Él lo multiplica.

Si le das a Dios tu talento, Él multiplicará tu talento. Si le das a Dios tu energía, Él multiplicará tu energía. Si le das tu dinero a Dios, Él multiplicará tu dinero. Todo lo que le des a Dios, Él lo multiplicará y te lo devolverá.

Eclesiastés 11:1 dice: “Lanza tu pan sobre el agua; después de algún tiempo volverás a encontrarlo” (NVI).

Para enseñar esta verdad, Jesús hizo un milagro. Cinco mil personas siguieron a Jesús en medio del desierto. Les enseñó todo el día, y al final del día, tenían hambre. Los discípulos le dijeron a Jesús que despidiera a todos. En cambio, Jesús les dijo a los discípulos que necesitaban alimentar a la gente. Estoy seguro de que los discípulos se preguntaron: “¿Qué está haciendo?” Estaba probando su fe. Quería ver si dependerían de Él para proporcionar lo que necesitaban para alimentar a 5,000 personas.

De esa gran multitud, un niño pequeño había traído el almuerzo, y dentro había cinco panecillos y dos pescados secos. El niño le llevó su almuerzo a Jesús y le dijo: “Señor, puedes tener esto”.

Jesús tomó el pan y los panes. Oró, lo partió, lo bendijo y lo multiplicó. Alimentó a las 5,000 personas, que también fueron los 5,000 testigos de este milagro. ¡No solo eso, sino que había 12 canastas sobrantes llenas de pescado y panes!

Dios siempre te da más de lo que necesitas, más de lo que anticipas y más de lo que puedes imaginar. Tomó lo que el niño le dio. Lo partió, lo bendijo y lo usó.

Eso es lo que Dios hace en tu vida. Toma lo que le traes, incluso las partes rotas, y lo usa para bien.

Ofrece a Jesús lo que tienes hoy. Él te bendecirá y te usará para bendecir a otros.

God Gives the Bitter Ingredients Purpose

“We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Romans 8:28 (NLT)

Most people don’t know that I am a “master” cake builder (my family, at least, thinks I am).

Years ago, I decided to learn how to bake cakes. I figured that, if I wanted to eat them, I ought to know how to make them. One of my favorite creations was one of the more difficult cakes to make: a German chocolate cake made from scratch for my wife’s birthday.

Making cakes has made me appreciate that the individual ingredients for a cake don’t taste good at all on their own. Some of them are quite bitter. If you eat flour by itself, it doesn’t taste good. If you eat baking powder or raw egg or oil by itself, you’ll be grossed out. Even the vanilla by itself doesn’t taste good—none of the ingredients do! But if you mix them all together and bake it, it’s delicious.

One of the greatest promises of the Bible is in Romans 8:28: “We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (NLT).

Notice that verse does not say that everything is good. A quick look at the news headlines proves that isn’t true. And it doesn’t say this promise is for everyone—just those who love God. The way God works all things together for good is kind of like baking a cake.

In your life and in the world, there will be elements that are bitter and unpleasant. You might think, “That doesn’t taste good. I don’t like that change in my life. I don’t like what’s happening in the world today.”

When you’re in a season of rapid and relentless change, and some of the elements don’t taste good, determine that you will not become bitter by seeing only the negative in your circumstances. Because even when you can’t see it, you can trust that God takes it all—the good and the bitter—and uses it for his good plan.

You can’t see it now, but you will taste its sweetness in heaven one day.

Da lo que Recibes

“El que le suple semilla al que siembra también le suplirá pan para que coma, aumentará los cultivos y hará que ustedes produzcan una abundante cosecha de justicia. Ustedes serán enriquecidos en todo sentido para que en toda ocasión puedan ser generosos, y para que por medio de nosotros la generosidad de ustedes resulte en acciones de gracias a Dios. Esta ayuda, que es un servicio sagrado, no solo suple las necesidades de los creyentes, sino que también redunda en abundantes acciones de gracias a Dios”. 2 Corintios 9:10-12 (NVI)

Lo que Dios te da, lo quiere dar a través de ti a otros.

Dios está buscando personas a las que pueda usar. Mira a tu alrededor y pregunta: “¿Serás una taza o serás una jarra?” Si eres una taza, simplemente te llenas, y eso es todo. Pero otro tipo de persona dice: “Dios, seré una jarra y puedes dar tu bendición a través de mí hacia otras personas”. Ese es el tipo de persona que Dios quiere bendecir.

La Biblia dice en 2 Corintios 9:10-11: “El que le suple semilla al que siembra también le suplirá pan para que coma, aumentará los cultivos y hará que ustedes produzcan una abundante cosecha de justicia. Ustedes serán enriquecidos en todo sentido para que en toda ocasión puedan ser generosos” (NVI).

Esta promesa se basa en tu voluntad de compartir lo que Dios te suministra. ¿Estás dispuesto a transmitir la bendición de Dios a los demás?

Quizás puedas decir, “¡Espera un minuto! No soy lo suficientemente rico para ser generoso. ¡Oh, sí, lo eres! No importa lo mucho o lo poco que tengas, puedes ser generoso con ello.

Hay una historia en la Biblia sobre una mujer que solo tenía dos centavos, pero los entregó. La idea de que “no tengo suficiente para dar” es un mito. Siempre puedes dar algo. La Biblia dice: “Esta ayuda, que es un servicio sagrado, no solo suple las necesidades de los creyentes, sino que también redunda en abundantes acciones de gracias a Dios” 2 Corintios 9:12 (NVI).

Cuando estés pasando por un momento difícil, todavía puedes decir: “Dios, no tengo mucho, pero estoy dispuesto a compartir. Solo tengo un poco de comida, pero estoy dispuesto a invitar a alguien a cenar”.

Cuando haces esto, Dios promete tres cosas. Primero, crecerás espiritualmente. En segundo lugar, te usará para satisfacer las necesidades de otras personas. Y, tercero, le traerás gloria.

Cuando compartes lo que tienes, Dios abrirá la puerta de la bendición en tu vida de maneras que no puedes imaginar.

Change Is for Your Good

“As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night.”

Genesis 8:22 (NLT)

Change is unavoidable. We all know that—but we still often act surprised when things don’t stay the same.

When change happens, we can complain and grumble, get mad, and blame other people. We can even try to stop the inevitable change, as if we have any control. But things on earth never stay the same. Every moment of our lives, there is change, for good or for bad.

When God created the earth, this is one of the first things he said: “As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night” (Genesis 8:22 NLT). In his perfect design, God made everything on this planet seasonal. Everything is changing, even when we can’t see or feel it. Your family isn’t the way it used to be. Your job isn’t the same as it used to be. You are not the same as you used to be.

But because God designed it and said it was good, we know that change is for our benefit. Change keeps us from becoming complacent and keeps us trusting God for the things we cannot understand. When change brings pain into our lives, it makes us depend on him. And change makes spiritual, physical, and emotional growth a natural part of life. Change for the better in your walk with Jesus means you are becoming more like him.

There is no growth without change. There is no change without loss. There is no loss without grief. And there is no grief without pain. A person who wants to grow and be better but not go through the pain of change is like a woman saying, “I want to have a baby, but I don’t want to go through labor.” It isn’t going to happen! To bring new life into the world requires pain. To enjoy every good gift, we sometimes have to experience the painful change required to receive it.

Things change, but remember this: Change will not always be easy, and you might not always understand it. But whatever change God requires from you, you can be sure it is for your good.

Three Anchors to Hold You Steady in Life’s Rough Waters

Christianity has been identified by different symbols over the years—like the fish and, of course, the cross. But did you know the anchor is also an ancient symbol of Christianity? The Bible tells us, “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls” (Hebrews 6:19 NLT).

In unstable situations, an anchor gives a boat stability. It keeps a ship from drifting during storms or in the middle of the night. Do you ever feel like you need an anchor for your soul, something to keep you stable?

Here are three anchors to hold you steady in rough waters:

1. The Presence of God

Remember God is with you; he hasn’t left you. No matter how dark your life seems or how abandoned you feel, God is with you. He has not abandoned you.

When the apostle Paul was on a ship in the middle of a storm that lasted days, he said to the men with him: “Take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down. For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me” (Acts 27:22–23 NLT).

You may not be able to see God physically standing beside you, but God is with you. In fact, he has never not been with you. He’s never been nearer or farther from you than he is at this moment. God says, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5 GNT). When you’re in a storm, you can count on the anchor of God’s presence.

2. The Purpose of God

Remember God’s purpose is greater than your storm or setback. Sometimes life’s storms may seem to set you permanently off course, but no storm or setback can change God’s purpose for you. God has no plan B for you. He fits everything—even your sins and other people’s mistakes—into his plan.

During the storm, God’s angel said to Paul, “Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar!” (Acts 27:24 NLT), assuring him God’s plan included surviving the storm. When Paul was in the middle of the ocean and couldn’t see the sun, moon, or stars for days, it probably looked like God’s plan for him had crumbled. But it hadn’t. God’s purpose was greater than Paul’s storm—and God’s purpose is greater than your storm too. In a storm, trust the anchor of God’s purpose.

3. The Promises of God

Remember God’s promises can be trusted. Paul said to the sailors with him, “So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me” (Acts 27:25 NIV). Paul’s faith wasn’t in the ship or the crew; his faith was in God’s promises. And you can trust God’s promises too.

What happened to Paul and the men he was with? They lost the ship—and all the cargo—but all the people were saved. God kept his promise to Paul. And he’ll keep his promises to you as well. Remember that the safest place for you to be is always right in the center of God’s will, even if that’s in the middle of a hurricane. In any storm, you can depend on the anchor of God’s promises.

Maybe you’re tempted to drift or to despair and you’re looking for something to keep you steady. Look no further than God’s presence, purpose, and promises.

Confía en Dios un Día a la Vez

“No se preocupen por nada; en cambio, oren por todo. Díganle a Dios lo que necesitan y denle gracias por todo lo que él ha hecho. . . Concéntrense en todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honorable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo bello y todo lo admirable. Piensen en cosas excelentes y dignas de alabanza”. Filipenses 4:6-8 (NTV)

Dios quiere que confíes en Él un día a la vez. Dios quiere que pidas “El pan de cada día” Mateo 6:11, no tu pan semanal, pan mensual o pan anual.

La Biblia dice: “No se preocupen por nada; en cambio, oren por todo. Díganle a Dios lo que necesitan y denle gracias por todo lo que él ha hecho. . . Concéntrense en todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honorable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo bello y todo lo admirable. Piensen en cosas excelentes y dignas de alabanza” Filipenses 4:6-8 (NTV).

Este pasaje enseña cuatro cosas para hacer diariamente para confiar en Dios:

No te preocupes por nada. “No se preocupen por el mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. Los problemas del día de hoy son suficientes por hoy” Mateo 6:34 (NTV). ¿Por qué la preocupación es tan importante? Porque no es solo un mal hábito, es un pecado. Pero Dios cumple sus promesas y puedes confiar en que Él te cuidará.

Ora por todo. La oración cambia las cosas. Romanos 8:32 dice: “Si Dios no se guardó ni a su propio Hijo, sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿no nos dará también todo lo demás?” (NTV). Dios resolvió tu mayor problema, el pecado que te impedía ir al Cielo, cuando envió a Jesús a morir por ti. Si Dios te amó lo suficiente como para enviar a Jesús a morir por ti, ¿no crees que te ama lo suficiente como para encargarse de todos tus otros problemas?

Dale gracias a Dios por todo. Pase lo que pase, da gracias. La Biblia no dice: “Sean agradecidos en toda circunstancia, pues esta es la voluntad de Dios para ustedes, los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús” 1 Tesalonicenses 5:18 (NTV). No tienes que estar agradecido por las cosas malas en tu vida. Nunca debes estar agradecido por el mal. No tienes que estar agradecido por el cáncer o un accidente automovilístico. Pero Dios dice que en todo se puede dar gracias. ¿Por qué? Porque sabes que Dios te va a cuidar. Sabes que va a satisfacer tus necesidades. Sabes que te va a ayudar.

Piensa en las cosas correctas. En Filipenses 4, Dios nos ha dado una lista de cosas para pensar: en las cosas que son verdaderas, honorables, justas, puras, bellas, admirables, excelentes y dignas de alabanza.

¿Dónde encuentras cosas puras y bellas en las que pensar? No las encontrarás viendo televisión o desplazándote por las redes sociales. Encontrarás pensamientos puros, bellos y honorables en la Palabra de Dios. Léela, estúdiala, memorízala y llena tu mente con ella. Isaías 26:3 dice: “¡Tú guardarás en perfecta paz a todos los que confían en ti, a todos los que concentran en ti sus pensamientos!” (NTV).

Haz de hoy el día en que comiences a confiar en Dios un día a la vez.

¿Crees que la oración cambia las cosas? ¿Por qué sí o por qué no?¿Hacia dónde se dirigen tus pensamientos con más frecuencia? ¿Se vuelven hacia cosas que son verdaderas, honorables, justas, puras, bellas, admirables, excelentes y dignas de alabanza?¿En qué situación necesitas agradecer a Dios hoy?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?
