God’s Solution for Our Failures

“[God] canceled the debt, which listed all the rules we failed to follow. He took away that record with its rules and nailed it to the cross.”

Colossians 2:14 (NCV)

We all mess up from time to time. We all make mistakes! We don’t have to live with guilt, because the Bible says, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1 NIV). But we do have to live with our mistakes.

The Bible never hides this truth. It is painfully honest about the failures of its heroes. God saved the world from flood through a man named Noah—who then got drunk and naked and ruined it all. Moses led the children of Israel through the Red Sea and into freedom—yet his anger kept him out of the Promised Land. King David was a man after God’s heart—but he also had an affair and murdered the woman’s husband so he wouldn’t be discovered.

God realizes our frailty. If he only used perfect people, the Bible would be a pretty short book! But God does not leave us alone in our sin. He has a solution for our failures: grace.

The Bible says, “[God] canceled the debt, which listed all the rules we failed to follow. He took away that record with its rules and nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:14 NCV).

In fact, when you look at all those failures in the Bible, you get a clear picture. We can be amazed at how God used those people to accomplish his purposes in big ways. But what is most encouraging is that he used them in spite of their failures and mistakes.

Just like those heroes of the Bible, you and I are trophies of God’s grace.

Your primary witness to the world around you is not all the great things you do for God. Your most important witness will be how you handle mistakes you’ve made. Do you mope about your failures, or do you revel in the grace of God?

People want to meet a God who turns failures into triumphs. They want to know a God who can transform the lives of broken people.

The amazing part of God’s grace isn’t just his power to forgive. It’s also the strength and renewal he gives us when we choose to start over and trust in him to help us keep going.

In what ways does God’s grace empower you to live a purposeful life?

God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, pray this simple prayer: "Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."

Dios Ama al que Da con Alegría

“Cada uno debe dar según lo que haya decidido en su corazón, no de mala gana ni por obligación, porque Dios ama al que da con alegría. Y Dios puede hacer que toda gracia abunde para ustedes, de manera que siempre, en toda circunstancia, tengan todo lo necesario y toda buena obra abunde en ustedes”. 2 Corintios 9:7-8 (NVI)

Si quieres medir cuanto entiendes la gracia y cuanto estás viviendo por gracia, mira lo que estás dando.

La Biblia dice, “Cada uno debe dar según lo que haya decidido en su corazón, no de mala gana ni por obligación, porque Dios ama al que da con alegría. Y Dios puede hacer que toda gracia abunde para ustedes, de manera que siempre, en toda circunstancia, tengan todo lo necesario y toda buena obra abunde en ustedes” 2 Corintios 9:7-8 (NVI).

Te diste cuenta de los “todos” — “toda gracia”, “toda circunstancia”, “todo lo necesario”, “toda Buena obra abunde en ustedes” — éstas son las promesas relacionadas con la persona que llega a ser como Cristo. ¿Cómo era Cristo? Él era un dador. Dios amó el mundo tanto que Él dio. Hasta que aprendas a ser generoso con tu tiempo, dinero, recursos y oportunidades, no vas a ser como Cristo. No hay mayor prueba que entender la gracia de ser amable, generoso y de dar amor a los demás y a Dios.

Si estás tenso o a la defensiva cuando tu pastor empieza a hablar de dar, significa que no entiendes la gracia. Mira el versículo otra vez. Dice que si das con alegría no por obligación, Dios se encargará de todas tus necesidades — de manera que siempre, en toda circunstancia, tengan todo lo necesario.

Aquí está la pregunta: ¿vas a confiar en el Dios que dio Su vida por ti? Si puedes confiar lo suficiente para la salvación, ¿No podrías confiar en Él, tus finanzas?

La verdad es que no posees nada. Dios sólo te presta todo durante 70 a 80 años. Todo es de Dios inicialmente. Si mi hija viene a mí, y le doy sus cinco dólares para comprarme un regalo, ¿De dónde vino el dinero inicialmente?

Dios hace eso con nosotros. Él nos da generosamente. Entonces dice: “Ahora muestra un poco de gratitud. Sé generoso para dar, incluyendo el diezmo”. ¿Dios necesita el dinero? No. Dios quiere que seas como Él. Dios quiere que tengas un corazón que diga: “No puedo esperar para dar en todas las áreas”.

Romanos 8:32 dice, “El que no escatimó ni a su propio Hijo, sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿cómo no habrá de darnos generosamente, junto con él, todas las cosas?” (NVI).

El hecho es que puedes decir que amas a Dios y cantar que confías en Dios y ponerlo a Él primero, pero es cuando das, donde puedes mostrar cuanto la gracia de Dios significa para ti.

You Don’t Have to Fear Failure

“There is no one on earth who does what is right all the time and never makes a mistake.”

Ecclesiastes 7:20 (GNT)

In some cultures, failure is almost the unpardonable sin. That’s because we idolize success. But that kind of pressure creates major stress for people.

The fear of failure has many different faces. It can cause us to be indecisive, a workaholic, and a perfectionist and cling to safety. Because we’re afraid to fail, we shun all kinds of risks.

For many of us, that fear of failure has an iron grip on our hearts. Even some of the best and the brightest people in the world are the most impacted by a fear of failure. They may look confident, but they are crippled on the inside by their fear.

That’s why you need to internalize this one simple message: We’ve all made mistakes.

It’s not just a “you problem.” It’s a human problem. The Bible says, “There is no one on earth who does what is right all the time and never makes a mistake” (Ecclesiastes 7:20 GNT).

Not only have you made mistakes in the past, but you’ll also make more mistakes in the future. I guarantee it. Even playing it safe and refusing to take risks is a mistake!

As a pastor, I had people ask me all the time, “What if I fail?” I wanted to ask them, “What do you mean if?”

You’ve already failed many, many times in life. So have I. And you’ll fail again and again in the future. So will I.

Even superstars stumble. The greatest basketball players in the NBA only hit half their shots. The most famous actor in the world doesn’t always make a blockbuster movie. Failure is normal.

You’ll never overcome your fear of failure until you fully accept the reality that you’re not perfect.

The Bible says there is only one failure you need to fear: “Be careful that no one fails to receive God’s grace” (Hebrews 12:15 NCV).

You need grace. We all do!

When we let go of the fear of failure, it will let go of its maddening grip on our lives. Only then can we accept the grace of God.

¿Qué Debes Hacer Cuando Pecas?

“Si regresas a mí te restauraré para que puedas continuar sirviéndome”. Jeremías 15:19a (NTV)

Cuando te conviertes en un creyente en Cristo, naciste de nuevo en la familia de Dios. Aunque la comunión con Dios puede ser rota por el pecado, la relación sigue ahí. Estás a un solo paso de regresar.

Así que, ¿qué debes hacer cuando pecas? Una palabra: ¡Regresar! Vuelve a Cristo. Es Así de simple.

Isaías 1:18 dice: “Aunque sus pecados sean como la escarlata, yo los haré tan blancos como la nieve. Aunque sean rojos como el carmesí, yo los haré tan blancos como la lana” (NTV).

Si alguna vez hubo un pecado que uno pensaría que es imperdonable, sería negar a Jesús tres veces la noche en que fue traicionado. Pero Jesús sabía que Pedro le negaría, e incluso sabía que Pedro volvería a Él. De hecho, antes de que sucediera, Jesús le dijo a Pedro en el Aposento Alto: “Pero yo he orado por ti, para que no falle tu fe. Y tú, cuando te hayas vuelto a mí, fortalece a tus hermanos” Lucas 22:32 (NVI).

Jesús sabía que el ministerio de Pedro sería más eficaz después de su negación de lo que era antes. ¡Y, efectivamente, lo fue! Pedro escribió dos de los libros de la Biblia llamados 1 y 2 Pedro. Luego compartió sus memorias con un familiar, y ese es el Evangelio de Marcos.

Tú puedes pensar que Dios te olvidó. No lo ha hecho. El buen pastor deja las 99 ovejas para ir detrás de una. Él sabe cómo has caído, —ya sea por un paso de gigante o de una serie de pequeños pasos en el que sólo te escabulliste y no estás tan cerca de Cristo como solías estar— es necesario orar lo que David oró cuando regresó a Dios después de cometer adulterio. Él dijo: “¡Devuélveme el gozo de tu salvación! ¡Dame un espíritu dispuesto a obedecerte!” Salmo 51:12 (RVC). David no tuvo que orar: “Dios, restaura mi salvación” porque él no había perdido su salvación. Había perdido el gozo.

Y algunos de ustedes tienen que, también, venir a Cristo hoy.

How to Replace Your Fear With Trust

“He did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.”

2 Corinthians 1:10 (NLT)

Sometimes the fears in your life can be loud, demanding your attention. But you can trust that God is with you and for you and is more powerful than whatever you’re afraid of.

When the apostle Paul was in a frightening situation, he chose to trust God instead of giving in to his fear. When he did, here’s what he found to be true about God: “He did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us” (2 Corinthians 1:10 NLT).

You have a choice just like Paul did. Choose to believe God is watching over you. Choose to trust him. And choose not to give in to your fears.

God promises believers that, no matter what happens to us, he is working for our good—if we love him and follow him: “Now we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 TLV). If you’re a believer, God promises all things are working together for good—not that all things are good but that they are working together for good.

That means you can stop listening to your fears because there is no difficulty, dilemma, defeat, or disaster in the life of a believer that God can’t ultimately get some good out of. There is no need to fear the future.

Your fears reveal where you do not trust God. So, today, make a list of your fears and ask God to help you identify the reason you have them. Then ask him to help you replace your fears with trust.

Now, this is important: Expect God to start helping you learn to trust him with each fear. Then, watch to see how he does help you.

¿Alguien Necesita un Nuevo Comienzo?

“Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien nos tuvo gran compasión y nos hizo nacer de nuevo por la resurrección de Jesucristo. Así nos dio la plena esperanza de recibir una herencia que Dios tiene guardada para nosotros en el cielo; herencia que no se arruina, ni se destruye, ni pierde su valor”. 1 Pedro 1:3-4 (PDT)

Una vez escribí “nuevo comienzo” en Google y aparecieron ¡485.000 enlaces! Evidentemente a mucha gente le gustaría tener un nuevo comienzo en la vida. Ellos piensan: “Me he equivocado, lo he estropeado, he hecho un lío de cosas en mi vida. Me gustaría empezar de nuevo”.

Jesús está en el negocio de dar a la gente un nuevo comienzo. El apóstol Pedro dice: “Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien nos tuvo gran compasión y nos hizo nacer de nuevo por la resurrección de Jesucristo. Así nos dio la plena esperanza de recibir una herencia que Dios tiene guardada para nosotros en el cielo; herencia que no se arruina, ni se destruye, ni pierde su valor” 1 Pedro 1:3-4 (PDT).

Varias cosas suceden una vez que entregas tu vida a Cristo:

Abres tu vida a Dios y llegas a conocerlo.

Se te dará una nueva vida, lo que te da todo porque vivir.

Recibes un futuro en el Cielo.

Lo puedes decir de esta manera: Tienes un pasado que fue perdonado, un propósito para vivir y un hogar en el Cielo. ¡Vaya Trato! Tu pasado, presente y futuro son cuidados por haber puesto tu confianza en Jesús.

“Dios los ha unido a ustedes con Cristo Jesús. Dios hizo que él fuera la sabiduría misma para nuestro beneficio. Cristo nos hizo justos ante Dios; nos hizo puros y santos y nos liberó del pecado” 1 Corintios 1:30 (NTV).

Take a Step of Faith in Spite of Your Fear

“Lord, take notice of the threats they have made, and allow us, your servants, to speak your message with all boldness.”

Acts 4:29 (GNT)

We all have fears. Too often, though, we let them rule us and stop us from taking a stand for what we know God wants us to do.

Like Daniel standing in the lion’s den, we face people and situations that threaten to destroy us and our witness for Christ. But we have a choice: Will we succumb to our fears, or will we stand up for God in spite of those fears?

If you want to overcome fear that’s dragging you down, you need to understand the benefits of choosing to stand up for what God wants. And most importantly, you need to see that—when you do what God wants you to do—you earn a clear victory over fear.

On the other hand, every time you give in to a fear, it becomes more intense. Fear grows every time you refuse to do what God wants you to do. And eventually, you’ll feel cornered by it.

So what do you do?

Follow the lead of early Christians. We’re not the first generation of Christians to face fear. Early believers faced all kinds of persecution that surely made them afraid. The book of Acts tells how they stood up to fear.

As Peter and John proclaimed Jesus boldly in Acts 4, they came up against fierce opposition. So they prayed, “Lord, take notice of the threats they have made, and allow us, your servants, to speak your message with all boldness” (Acts 4:29 GNT).

Instead of giving in to fear, they moved forward boldly in spite of it.

You can do the same. Stand up to fear. Fear doesn’t respond to logic, so your only chance to get rid of fear is to trust God and face it.

Never, ever forget this: God won’t part the water in front of you until you take your first step (see how God did this for Joshua’s men at the Jordan river in Joshua 3:15). When you take a step of faith, then God shows you the path. But that won’t happen if you stand still, wrapped up in your fear.

Take a step of faith today, and watch fear crumble in the process as God guides your steps.

¿Cómo Demuestras Amor a Otros?

“Queridos amigos, sigamos amándonos unos a otros, porque el amor viene de Dios. Todo el que ama es un hijo de Dios y conoce a Dios”. 1 Juan 4:7 (NTV)

El amor es una habilidad que puede aprenderse. En otras palabras, es algo que se puede mejorar con la práctica.

Puedes pensar que eres amoroso, pero Dios quiere que te conviertas en el mejor, un experto en el amor, un maestro en el amor. Puedes convertirte en un experto en la forma como te relacionas con los demás. Sin embargo, la mayoría de las personas nunca aprenden a amar de verdad.

¿No te gustaría ser conocido como una persona con un amor extraordinario? Cuando las personas hablen de ti, podrían decir: “No le importa quién eres o cómo te ves”. “No le importa dónde has estado o lo que has hecho o de dónde eres”.

La única manera de conseguir ser experto en algo es practicándolo. Lo haces una y otra vez. La primera vez que lo haces, te sientes incómodo, pero entre más lo haces, mejor te vuelves.

Lo mismo ocurre con el amor: “Queridos amigos, sigamos amándonos unos a otros, porque el amor viene de Dios. Todo el que ama es un hijo de Dios y conoce a Dios” 1 Juan 4:7 (NTV). La Biblia también dice: “Sé diligente en estos asuntos; entrégate de lleno a ellos, de modo que todos puedan ver que estás progresando” 1 Timoteo 4:15 (NVI).

Let Faith, Not Fear, Rule Your Heart

“Many of the people scolded him and told him to be quiet. But he shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’”

Mark 10:48 (GNT)

Don’t let your fears control you! Face your fears by putting your faith in God.

Fear has an incredible ability to paralyze your potential—to keep you from launching out with faith.

When we choose fear over faith, it makes us skeptical. Fear keeps us from trying new things. It makes us selfish because we’re afraid to commit to God and to others. It makes us short-sighted; we focus on the past and not on the future.

Bartimaeus—a man who was blind and wanted Jesus to give him sight—faced a fear that is familiar to many of us: the fear of rejection. He knew that people would look down on him if he shouted out to Jesus in a crowd. But he was desperate. And he knew that Jesus Christ was the only one who could help him.

Look what happened when he shouted out to Jesus: “Many of the people scolded him and told him to be quiet” (Mark 10:48 GNT). They probably said things like, “Don’t do that. Be quiet. Don’t make a scene. Surely Jesus Christ isn’t interested in you. He has more important things to do.”

The devil whispers things like that to a lot of us. When that opportunity for faith comes into your heart, thoughts like, “God surely wouldn’t be interested in you” or “Don’t make a scene” or “What would people think of you?” may keep you from trusting God. When you see an opportunity to change, shouts from inside and around you tell you not to rock the boat.

But God is asking you to do something greater than you’ve ever done before: He’s asking you to depend on him completely. Don’t you think that’s going to feel a little bit scary? Of course it will. Bartimaeus was probably scared too, but here’s what he did: “But he shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’” (Mark 10:48 GNT).

When God asks something of you, you have a choice. Are you going to fall back on your fear and stay the way you are? Or are you going to tame your fear and step forward in faith?

Proverbs 29:25 says, “The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in GOD protects you from that” (MSG). Pray that God would help you receive his protection from what other people think by trusting in him.

¿Por qué Dios no Rechaza los Pecadores? Parte 2

Jesús entiende tus debilidades humanas.

Dios es compasivo y comprensivo. Él conoce tus debilidades, tus defectos y cómo estás diseñado. Y Él es paciente contigo.

“Porque no tenemos un sumo sacerdote incapaz de compadecerse de nuestras debilidades, sino uno que ha sido tentado en todo de la misma manera que nosotros, aunque sin pecado” Hebreos 4:15 (NVI). Jesús vivió en carne humana por treinta y tres años, así que entiende tus debilidades.

Dios no guarda rencores.

La Biblia dice, “[Dios] No acusará para siempre, ni nos guarda rencor todo el tiempo. No nos ha dado el castigo que merecen nuestros pecados; ni nos trata conforme a nuestras maldades. El SEÑOR es tan bueno con los que lo respetan como un padre con sus hijos” Salmo 103:9-10, 13 (PDT). Si eres creyente, Dios no está enojado contigo. ¿Por qué? Porque todo el castigo fue llevado en la cruz.

Puedes estar pensando, “No sabes lo lejos que he caído. No sabes lo que he hecho”. No, yo no lo sé, pero Dios sí. Si piensas que te has apartado demasiado de Dios, esto es lo que Dios te dice: “Vuélvanse a mí, hijos rebeldes, y yo los curaré de su rebeldía” Jeremías 3:22a (DHH).
