~ BLOG TOUR STOP ~ --  'HOPE AMID THE PAIN'  -- AUTHOR LESLIE L. McKEE   ~Post Includes:  Book Spotlight +Excerpt, Author Bio & Giveaway~   🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Hope Amid the Pain by Leslie L. McKee, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

ABOUT THE BOOK  Hope Amid the Pain Title:  Hope Amid the Pain Author:  Leslie L. McKee Publisher:  Ambassador International Release Date:  October 26, 2021 Genre:  Devotional / Christian / Chronic Illness
Why me? Is God punishing me? Is my faith not strong enough for God to heal me? How can I achieve my dreams? What’s my purpose?
If you’re someone living with a chronic illness or chronic pain, these are just a few of the questions you’ve likely asked on more than one occasion. You may feel overlooked or even resentful. You try to stay positive, but some days it’s hard. It’s natural to feel this way and grieve, but it’s still possible to have a hope-filled life. God has a purpose for the pain.
Christians aren’t immune from pain and illness, but we don’t have to go through it alone. Jesus promised that He would “never leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV).
Millions of women suffering from chronic pain and illness want the reassurance they’re not alone. The devotions in HOPE Amid the Pain are written by a chronic pain warrior with over twenty-five years’ experience and will point the reader to hope and encouragement. It’s possible to Hang On to Positive Expectations (HOPE) even amid the pain.    🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋 EXCERPT:

--INTRODUCTION--

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

—Romans 8:28

God promises to use all things for His good. For those living with chronic pain and illness, it could be hard to believe that’s true. But He sees the big picture. He offers hope for those who feel hopeless, comfort in times of trouble, courage to squash fears, and strength to take that next step.

Dear friend, I don’t know what you’re going through, and I don’t presume to know how you feel. But I do know what it’s like to live with chronic pain and illness. I know what it’s like to question God and wonder why others are healed while I’m still in pain. Yet I also know where to turn when I feel like I can’t continue and am ready to give up. I know where to find strength to take that next step, and I know where to find hope for the future. All of it can be found in one place—in one person—Jesus, the One Who is Hope!

With HOPE Amid the Pain, I share some Scripture verses, quotes, and perspectives that have helped me over the twenty-five-plus years I’ve dealt with chronic pain and illness. I pray that you can find hope and comfort in these pages when the waves of life threaten to overwhelm you.

🐦 AUTHOR GUEST POST  🐦

Here are some "Behind-the-Scenes" fun facts about the book and its inspiration:

1.    Bird Count is inspired by my own experiences doing the Christmas Bird Count in Acton, MA, for more than a decade.

2.  The character of Big Al is based on my real-life Team Leader for Area 10 of the Concord Circle, Al Sgroi.

3.   Four of the five named streets and businesses in the book are real places in Acton.

4.    Ava and her team counted 24 different species in Bird Count.  That's not too far off our counts. In Area 10, we generally spot 30 to 35 species.

5.    In 2020, the bird in Area 10 with the highest numbers was the black-capped chickadee.  Which bird is most common in your area at this time of year?

6.    In 2020, our most unusual species was the horned lark.  What will it be this year?  What surprising bird might you find?

🐦 🐦 🐦 🐦 🐦 🐦 🐦 🐦 🐦

🐦 MY REVIEW:

This is an excellent book detailing the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count {CBC} held during the Christmas holiday season each year. The text tells the who, what, where, when, why, and how of this valuable event held in the Western Hemisphere. I love birds, and I learned a lot about the birds and this event by reading this book.

The author has included excellent back matter information, also. The Author's Note relates her experience as a participant in this event for the past fifteen-plus years and explains the purpose for the event in more depth. Ms. Richmond includes a list of Resources and a detailed list of the birds counted in a typical CBC, which is organized like a glossary.

The illustrator has done a fabulous job of capturing the mood and emotions of the main character, Ava, along with presenting excellent images of the various birds and the scenes included in the story. The idea of including an image of the notebook page that Ava is using to record the tally for the bird count along the right side of some of the pages keeps readers engaged and involved in the story.

I highly recommend this book for teachers, librarians, parents, grandparents, child care/youth group/scout leaders, and fans of ornithology of any age!

I was allowed access to a digital copy of this book by the publisher for my own personal use. All of my thoughts and opinions shared here are solely my own.

About the Book

Jane Austen meets Sherlock Holmes in this new Regency mystery series

Newly returned from finishing school, Lady Juliette Thorndike is ready to debut in London society. Due to her years away, she hasn't spent much time with her parents, and sees them only as the flighty, dilettante couple the other nobles love. But when they disappear, she discovers she never really knew them at all. They've been living double lives as government spies--and they're only the latest in a long history of espionage that is the family's legacy.

Now Lady Juliette is determined to continue their work. Mentored by her uncle, she plunges into the dangerous world of spies. From the glittering ballrooms of London to the fox hunts, regattas, and soirees of country high society, she must chase down hidden clues, solve the mysterious code her parents left behind, and stay out of danger. All the while, she has to keep her endeavors a secret from her best friend and her suitors--not to mention the nosy, irritatingly handsome Bow Street runner, who suspects her of a daring theft.

Can Lady Juliette outwit her enemies and complete her parents' last mission?

Best-selling author Erica Vetsch is back with a rollicking, exciting new series destined to be a hit with Regency readers who enjoy a touch of mystery in their love stories. Fans of Julie Klassen, Sarah Ladd, and Anne Perry will love the wit, action, and romance.

Book Review

After previously reading The Indebted Earl by this author, I knew I could expect excellent character development, enriching historical details, and detailed settings and story structure in this new book. She does an amazing job of researching the Regency era before immersing her readers into the world of high society, romance, and the moirés of the day.

I have been reading mysteries since I began enjoying the genre as a teen reading the Agatha Christie books. I am always looking for challenging mysteries with unique elements to satisfy my interest in sleuthing. The code-breaking element of this book is enthralling. The Debutante's Code has a significant number of red herrings and clues that lead nowhere which grab a reader's attention and don't let go until the end of the book.

This new book offers espionage and mystery along with several endearing characters which I hope we will see in the upcoming books in this Thorndike & Swann series.

There is a light faith thread running throughout the book. The book is completely clean in language and content.

Highly-recommended for fans of Regency era romance, clean historical romance, Christian historical fiction, and historical mysteries.

I received a print copy of this book from the publisher through Audra Jennings PR. My thoughts and opinions shared here review are solely my own.

Bookstore owner and mystery writer Samantha Washington comes to the aid of the cop who once arrested her own grandmother . . .

Sam and Nana Jo are back in sleepy North Harbor, Michigan, where Sam is eagerly awaiting the publication of her first book. In search of more immediate excitement, Nana Jo hits the casino with her fellow Shady Acres Retirement Village gal pals—but they get more than they bargained for when they witness Detective Bradley Pitt decking mayoral candidate John Cloverton.

As Sam well knows, mystery novels are full of brilliant detectives, genius sleuths, and hero cops. Detective Bradley Pitt—aka “Stinky Pitt”—is another story. In the past, the dull-witted detective has mistakenly accused members of Sam’s family for crimes they didn’t commit. Now, it’s his turn: when Cloverton turns up dead, he’s arrested. With his predilection for polyester, Pitt has been wanted by the fashion police for years, but Nana Jo knows her former elementary school math student would never commit murder—it doesn’t add up. Somebody’s framed the flatfoot to take a fall, and Sam and Nana Jo must step in to restore the reputation and good name of Detective Pitt.

KILLER WORDS

Hello, my name is Samantha Washington, and I own a mystery bookshop in North Harbor, Michigan. I also write British historic cozy mysteries and sometimes, I get involved in solving mysteries when the police seem to be following the wrong path. Detective Bradley Pitt of the North Harbor Police Department isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. I learned that when we first met (The Plot is Murder)and he accused me of murder. Just because I hadn’t gotten along with the victim and he was found murdered in the courtyard behind my bookstore, Detective Pitt latched onto me as the killer and refused to let go. If it hadn’t been for my sister, Jenna, who’s a lawyer with a reputation of being a Pitbull, my grandmother, Nana Jo, and her friends from Shady Acres Retirement Village, I might be sitting in jail today. Falsely accusing one person of murder could have been chalked up as a mistake. But accusing me of a murder I didn’t commit isn’t Detective Pitt’s only faux pas. He also erroneously accused my assistant, Dawson Alexander, my grandmother, and my stepfather of murder. Thankfully, I’ve been able to prove him wrong and find the real killers. No thanks to Detective Pitt, or Stinky Pitt, as my grandmother likes to call him. Despite the fact that I’ve prevented the miscarriage of justice and saved his reputation, Detective Pitt hasn’t appreciated my intervention in his cases. He’d prefer if I minded my own business and left the job of tracking down killers to the professionals. In that area, Detective Pitt and I are in agreement. I’d prefer nothing better than to run my mystery bookstore and focus on writing.

At last, things in my world seem to have settled down. My loved ones aren’t embroiled in a murder. My agent has sold my manuscript and I’m about to realize a long-held dream of becoming a published author. My personal life is progressing, and all is well. When my publisher suggests I work on building my brand and my social media platform, Nana Jo and I take a class on marketing for social media at the local college. That’s where we meet, John Cloverton. Cloverton is a marketing expert with lots of irons in the fire, including a run as North Harbor’s next mayor. That is until Detective Pitt arrests him in the middle of our first class. Later, when Cloverton is found dead, Pitt is accused of the murder and arrested. Personally, I’m content to take Detective Pitt’s advice and allow the professionals to do their job. However, my grandmother has a different plan. Nana Jo knows Detective Pitt can’t detect his way out of a brown paper bag, let alone a charge of murder. And despite his many faults, she isn’t about to sit back and allow one of her former students to take the fall for a crime he didn’t commit. Nana Jo can be very persuasive and before long, sheenlists me, my sister Jenna, and our friends to find the real killer. It doesn’t take long to uncover that Detective Pitt had a motive, the opportunity, and the means to kill Cloverton. Finding the real killer will take all of my skill and a good amount of luck. In this case, failure could cost a lot more than freedom and a prison sentence. It could mean the difference between life and death.

ABOUT THE BOOK  The Cowboy's Amish Haven Title:  The Cowboy's Amish Haven
Author:  Pamela Desmond Wright
Publisher:  Love Inspired
Release Date:  August 24, 2021
Genre:  Inspirational Contemporary Romance
Her home and her heart are on the line…
On the same day Gail Schroder’s faced with losing her Amish family ranch, her old crush Levi Wyse shows up on her doorstep. He doesn’t know that when he left ten years ago he'd taken Gail’s heart with him. Now Levi’s her only hope of keeping a roof over her head. But can this cowboy teach Gail the ropes in time to save her home? EXCERPT:
Pulling back her shoulders and leveling her chin, Gail walked down the steps. Gravel crunched under her heels as she marched toward a white fence with a wrought iron gate that kept people from entering the property. Ezra Weaver dutifully followed.

Pasting a polite smile on her face, Gail peered through the bars. "Guder mariye," she said, out of habit using the language she'd been raised to speak.

The driver slid out of his truck. Tall and blond, he was dressed in jeans, boots and a plaid checkered work shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbows. He looked like any cowboy roaming the open plains.

"Guder mariye,"he returned, tipping the wide brim of his straw hat.

Her brows rose. His pronunciation was decent enough. "Can I help you?" she asked, switching to English.

The visitor shifted to get a better view through the gate. His gaze widened, as did his grin. "Gail? You sure grew up."

The fine hairs on the back of her neck rose. "Do I know you?"

The man took off his hat, giving her a better view of his face.A blond layer of stubble roughened his skin. "Well, I hope so."

Gail searched for recognition. His eyes were his most arresting feature. Irises the shade of an icy arctic lake sparkled. Wry amusement slanted his mouth.

Noticing her lag, he took a step closer. "It’s Levi," he prodded. "Levi Wyse."

Blood drained from her face. No. It couldn’t be. This man didn't look like the boy she remembered. A thin scar marred his right cheek, and the slightly crooked set of his nose indicated a break or two throughout his life. His skin was deeply tanned, and small lines etched the outer corners of his eyes. A few character lines touched his mouth and chin. His voice, too, was deep, but mellow.

An image she'd put away long ago flashed across her mind’s screen. When she'd last laid eyes on Levi, he'd had a huskier build and still wore his hair in the bowl cut favored by most Amish men. Now he had the lean and hard frame of a working man, and his hair was cut in the sleek combed-back style favored by most Texas cowboys. He'd replaced the clothes he'd once worn as one of the Plain folks with Western-style wear. Shedding his past, he'd gone English.

She blinked, quizzical. "Levi?" Saying his name felt odd. "Is that really you?"

He bobbed his head. "Gail? You look as pretty as I remember."

"It has been ten years," she said, brushing off his compliment. "People change."

He dropped his gaze. "I know I left without saying anything. I should have stayed in touch."

Launching a frown, Gail folded her arms. "That’s a poor way to say you’re sorry."

He toyed with the hat in his hand. "I guess I owe you all an apology."

She offered a tight nod. "You do."

When Levi ran away, she was on the cusp of fourteen. His departure had crushed her. He didn't know it, but he'd taken her heart with him.

Now he was back.

A unique Amish romance in an unexpected setting . . .

This inspirational Amish romance is set in the small Amish community of Burr Oak, Texas. The Schroeder family ranch is being run by the eldest daughter, Gail Schroeder, after the death of her father a few months earlier.

While trying to deal with her grief and take on the responsibility for just about everything having to do with the ranch's operations along with being the head of the family for her three younger sisters, Gail receives surprising and dire news about the financial status of the ranch.

Cowboy Levi Wyse is in a not-so-good place in his life. He and his young son, Seth, are traveling the rodeo circuit in a trailer while Levi tries to strike it big on the pro tour around the United States. They're exhausted and in need of some order and normalcy in their lives.

Levi appears at the Schroeder's Ranch unexpectedly after ten years of being on the road. The fact that he left the Schroeder family home without saying goodbye has rankled Gail since she was fourteen. Levi is no longer the lonely Amish orphan looking for adventure as a rodeo cowboy—or is he? He has responsibilities, but he seems to be uncertain about what path to take which will lead to a more secure future for himself and his son.

The author's descriptive writing about cooking and ranch operations was interesting and added flavor to the story. The feelings that develop between the two lead characters are realistic and tender. I liked how the Schroeder family and community worked together to overcome challenges and tragedies.

This book is completely clean in language and content. Recommended for fans of Amish romance, Western romance, and Christian/clean romance.

I received a paperback copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my opinions and thoughts expressed here are solely my own.

🍬 MY REVIEW:

This fun book opens with an enthusiastic introduction written by the author. The book was written when she was the editor of 'FamilyFun Magazine'. The projects were contributed by readers of that magazine.

The chapters include:  Holiday Crafts & Decorations, Holiday Foods We Love, Holiday Celebrations, and Gifts Kids Can Make.

There are a few things that make this book stand out from the other craft books I have read and reviewed in the past few years. First of all, this book includes projects for Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa which gives readers a broad view of our diverse world.

Secondly, throughout the text there are sidebars titled, 'FamilyFun Reader Tradition'. I enjoyed reading these little blurbs from families around the United States where they shared some of their family's unique traditions for the various holidays.

Finally, the chapter on 'Gifts Kids Can Make' shares a variety of crafts that children can make for others using materials that won't break the bank!

The photography in this book features diverse families and children which I believe creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all readers. The stepped-out directions for the projects and the colorful, detailed photography make this book a winner in my opinion.

Highly-recommended for families, libraries, classrooms, church/synagogue youth groups, and scout groups. I borrowed this book from our local public library system.

ABOUT THE BOOK  A Promise of Forgiveness Title:  A Promise of Forgiveness Series:  Secrets of Bliss Valley #2 Author:  Jo Ann Brown Publisher:  Love Inspired Release Date:  November 30, 2021 Genre:  Christian, Amish, Contemporary Romance
“Jo Ann Brown’s writing is both powerful and charming. She provides a respite from the cares of the day and gives the invitation to join her for a journey of peace that lingers in the heart.”—Kelly Long, national bestselling author
Every little secret is a chain to the past…
For Amish widow Naomi Ropp, moving back to her parents’ Bliss Valley home—with her boisterous twin toddler boys—is a chance to start over and bury the painful secrets of her marriage forever. But her life is turned upside down once again when she learns she’s not the only one hiding things. The parents she believed were always open and honest have been keeping a secret her whole life. And now her only confidant is her father’s new employee—a handsome Amish man who was once her childhood tormentor.
Samuel King knows more than anyone should about mistakes—and the way he treated Naomi is at the top of his list. But the shock of seeing her pretty face again is quickly overshadowed when they find a slumbering boppli abandoned on his porch. Caring for the sweet newborn together is finally bringing some peace to their troubled pasts. But when a spark leads to growing feelings as they start to look toward the future, Samuel must find a way to convince Naomi to trust the man he's become…and the promise of new love.  🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼 EXCERPT:

Who was the man? The last time she’d been home, almost two months ago, Daed had been talking about getting an assistant. Had he hired one?

“Naomi, what’s this?” called Daed.

Instead of replying, she threw her arms around him. She didn’t sob, though she wanted to. She wanted to be held as she hadn’t been in too long, knowing she was loved. When he murmured how happy he was to see her, she closed her eyes and drew in the special scent of him. It was a mixture of wood shavings and the lubricating oils he used in his shop, and it was her favorite aroma.

Eager shrieks coming from where the boys were playing on the tire swing brought up Naomi’s head. A quick check told her they were safe. When Daed asked again what was going on, she said she hoped he’d take her and his kins-kinder into his home.

“We can live in the dawdihaus, so we won’t be in your way,” she ended without telling him they’d been evicted. She didn’t want to air her dirty laundry in front of the stranger.

“In the dawdihaus?” Daed shook his head. “No, you’ll live in the main house. My assistant is living in the dawdihaus until the chicken barn is rebuilt.” Motioning toward the other man, he said, “Komm and say hello to Samuel.”

“Samuel?” Her voice sounded distant in her own ears as if the single word had been caught by a storm wind.

She took another look at the man who was limping toward them. No wonder he’d looked familiar. Samuel King had shared her first kiss and then told everyone about it, making her the laughingstock of Bliss Valley and ruining her reputation. How could she even attempt to forget the worst parts of her past when Samuel King stood right in front of her now?

[image error] MY REVIEW:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A fabulous finale to an enjoyable, heartwarming series . . .

I enjoyed the previous three installments of this 'Bliss, Texas' series by the gifted author, Mindy Obenhaus. This final story in the series involving the lives of four women who live in this small Texas town was a fabulous finale to an enjoyable, heartwarming series.

'Their Yuletide Healing' features the hardworking owner of the local café, Rae Girard. She has had a lifelong dream of being a mother; but as sometimes happens in life, things didn't go the way she planned. In spite of her many friends and her vibrant business, Rae's childless, broken first marriage left her alone and lonely. Now in her forties, she is getting the opportunity to be a foster mother to two young siblings, Max and Maggie. She wants to do everything in her power to make this Christmas extraordinary for her two children. I admired Rae's determination and sincere desire to make things right for these children entrusted to her care.

The town's attorney, Cole Heinsohn, is successful, respected, and well-liked. However, he has a lot of baggage of his own that he has kept hidden inside for decades. He is grappling with his own personal challenges and stress during the story. It was exciting to see his personal and spiritual growth as the story progressed.

When Cole gets together with Rae, Maggie, and Max to work on the town's fundraiser, 'The Mistletoe Ball,' wonderful things begin to happen. Barriers are torn down, hearts are opened, and the Christmas spirit begins to permeate into places it has never reached before.

I congratulate the author on her fine portrayal of people in need of some emotional support and how this community once again comes together to enrich the lives of its residents. Faith is an essential thread that is deftly woven throughout the book.

Highly-recommended to fans of Christian/clean romance, Christian/clean Western romance, and Christian/clean holiday stories. This book is completely clean in language and content.

I received a paperback copy of this book from the author through JustRead Publicity Tours. All the comments and opinions I have expressed here are solely my own.
