The hardest part of coaching is the losses incurred away from the field, mat, cage or court. There are some people that enter your life and ensure you’ll never forget them. Kenny Shaw was one of those people. One of the most authentic people I ever met, you knew exactly what he was thinking or feeling at the moment it ran across his mind. I’ve never met anyone else like him. We spent the last 12 years on borrowed time with Kenny after he nearly died 12 years ago. Watching him pull through and survive was a testament to his resilience and pure toughness; something anyone that watched him play football or wrestle knew about him. While he was an amazing athlete at @dwyerhighschool that was a 1st Team All State football player, and a state medalist in wrestling, it was his infectious laugh, huge smile, and personality that will forever be remembered. Rest in Peace, Kenny. This one’s going to sting for a long while. #DBlock (at Cold Spring Park)

Proud doesn’t begin to tell the story. For what this girl has been through, there’s no heads hanging or any reason to consider this anything but a win. She’ll continue to recover, serve her country on a deployment in a few weeks, and come back better. Three years off is rough by itself, but when it’s due to severe health issues and essentially forced to fight up a weight class against a title challenger for this one, to get her back was a big ass W. The degree of difficulty behind this was exceptionally high. Fortunately, we get to coach an exceptional person. Time to go celebrate her return and see if we can’t have a Hangover reboot until heading to the airport at 4:00 AM. #leahnidas #ufcfightnight #ufcvegas42 (at Las Vegas, Nevada)
