Reversing the Travesty, Step One (new post)

I’m sitting on the back porch thinking over the morning’s events and contemplating the beautiful, mysterious ways of God. Care to join me for a story?

Little more than a week ago, I posted a blog thought called Travesty. In it, I expressed a heartfelt desire to begin correcting what I saw as a great wrong. It might help if you read that post before you continue.

This morning, God gave me the incredible gift of being able to pray with someone toembrace the forgiveness and grace that is hers thro...

What a Travesty

Travesty. I probably haven’t used that word a handful of times in my whole life butitsprang to my mind yesterday during my early morning devotions…

I was thinking of howI’ve often heardpeople tell new believers that they might not always feel so “high” on Christ (for lack or a better word) as the day when they first believed, but they should be careful toremember “this day” if theyshould begin to doubttheir new faith.I’m certain they meant well, but just typing those words makes me sad. The wo...

Do Not Read Your Book Reviews!

Dear *Cat,

I did it again. I didn’t mean to, I promise. I had no intention of reading reviews last Saturday! It’s just that I got an email invite to be someone’s friend on thiscertain book site and when I clicked “sure thing”, or something like that, I was taken to the site itself, which iswhere I happened to see mybook in a little sidebar along with the number of reviews it had garnered… And well, Cat, I could see the first few words of one review right before the “read more” link and it was...

Is that a Hole in my Head?

I have scant time forthis, but since my author friend Nicole Seitzthought I should share this story, here we go. Note:there’ll be even more rambling than usualbecause there’ll be zero to none editing. We good? Cool.

Once upon a time, (which was actually just last week), I had a hole in myhead. I do not mean an actual hole. That’s just the phrase that kept coming out every time I talked about how it felt to be missing a tooth on the top FRONT VERY VISIBLE SIDE of my mouth. Backstory? Oh, okay.

I...

Our Town Pauses to Remember

I just returned from our town’s Memorial Day service on the banks of beautiful Lake Providence. The service never fails toleaves me sober-spirited. As well it should.

I listened closely asMr. Al Rawls, aMarine Corps Captain who served in Vietnam andtheCivics teacher from our local high school, spokeeloquentlyof his fallen comrades in general and emotionally of one of his buddies in particular, a friend whose life was ended by a bullet to the head that was meant for Mr. Rawls.

I recited the pledg...

Road Story

I spoke at two and again at six, and I neeeeeeed to get on the road but this was too cute not to share while it is fresh. So, here’s the thing– you have too watch those elderly belles…

After I spoke earlier, an elderly lady was waiting around my book table and I thought it looked like she wanted to speak to me privately. She did. When she saw her chance, she lowered her voice to a soft whisper and said, “I’m sorry, but I have to know something.” I smiled to encourage her, “Yes?”

The dear old be...
