Me and My Otter

I did it! It’s windy here but I still took my new Otter out on a solo expedition and made it back to the dock safely! Note Dixie Belle observing. There’s a seat for her but she said if it was all the same to me she’d pass on the maiden voyage. Whatever. I love it! Thx, Phil!!!!

Hugs,

Shellie the new Kayaker

Drop by drop

“Are there not some of you who have set up a desired experience between yourselves and Jesus and are looking at it rather than at Him? You want a great shower, when perhaps it is His purpose to fill you drop by drop? You must lay down this strong will, this desire for the experience of a great blessing, and be content with Jesus, simply Jesus!” Alfred Cookman 1800′s

Hugs,

Shellie

My Apologies to Shakespheare

Yikes! I opened the radio show yesterdayin a most colorful and yet totallyunintended way. I had plans tosay something cute about it being Talk Like Shakespeare Day. Towards that end, I opened my mouth tosay, “Why fore shalt thou not join me on yon radio show?” INSTEAD, I heard myself begin with, “Why _______”(insert rather crude word that rhymes with cart and smart and has to do with being gasey!)My board man lost it and I did, too. Color me embarrassed, again. Here’s a link to the weekly pod...

Learning to Live Before You Die

I’m guilty of doing this thing I don’t want to do.Likeall bad habits, it’shardto break. I catch myself in it, red-handed and guilty before I even realize I’m doing it. Again. And each time I’m surprised, always surprised because I think I’ve quit doing it. That last time was supposed to be the last time, only it wasn’t.

Itoccurs to me to put my ever-present challengein very public words. Like an addict in a twelve step program recognizing the need for accountability, I spill my guts towards th...

Praying and Snoring, Not Meant to Go Hand in Hand

Yes, I am strange. It’s a life-long condition. With that preface aside, Dixie Belle and I hold hands occasionally during our early morning prayer times. This morning she tired of praying earlier than usual. Maybe it was the drizzling rain falling on the other side of the screened inporch…

I’m just saying that it is difficult topray when someone is beside you snoring. Loudly.

Hugs, Shellie

Paradise Ain’t Cheap

I took the following pictures a couple of weeks ago in Seaside, FL. You may remember me irritating everyone talking about my little writer’s getaway at Escape to Create and how much I enjoyed it.

This first one was hanging in the eating area of one of the little beach side establishments.

“Paradise Ain’t Cheap”– I felt sure it had been hung there as an ode to beach living.

And yet,it spoke something more to me, so I snapped the shot and filed the phrase away tothink about later. The words were s...

Sitting on the dock by the lake, wasting time…

…and it felt good!

So, I was writing on the back porch earlier this afternoon. The lake was calling and Dixie Belle's big old lab eyes were saying, "Deadlines, schmedlines, let's go fishing." And that, is precisely what we did. I shut 'er down and grabbed a shovel and cane pole from the carport storage room. The pic on the right is an example of the healthy worms I found after turning over a few spadefuls of dirt at the lake's edge.

The pic on the left is a classic. That's exactly what my cork ...

I Knew Before I Heard It

The image I'll never forget, nor the sounds of agony, as I watched Him struggle up the hill to His death at Calvary.

On a wooden cross they nailed Him, a crown of thorns they made in jest. From a precious few came wailing, cheers came from the rest.

He hung between two criminals, a sign above his head. "King of the Jews," the mocking letters read.

His gaze, dare you meet it, would root you to the ground. Void was it of bitterness, no anger could be found.

He asked for drink to quench His...
