TMTW: April-September 2024

What happened:
Lots to catch up on! In April we spent Easter at home and hosted a family lunch at ours, plus had a day in Brighton to support Olly's brother running the marathon. But really it was all about Japan that month (and into May).

Jordan: Day two in Wadi Rum

After a good night's sleep following our first adventurous day in Wadi Rum, it was up early for a breakfast of eggs, tomatoes and flatbread cooked by the camp's chef, Mo, who stayed at the camp with us overnight.

Jordan: Day one in Wadi Rum

Our next destination was Wadi Rum for two nights in the desert. It's about an hour's drive from Aqaba - look out for camels! - and we parked our car in the village at our host's house after we had registered at the Visitor's Centre (no entry fee for us as we had the Jordan Pass).

Jordan: Aqaba

Our next stop in Jordan was Aqaba, somewhere I'd been back in 2009, purely because it's the only bit of Jordan by the sea. And I needed a port to land in after crossing from Taba in Egypt. The sea in question is, of course, the Red Sea, and the only reason Jordan isn't landlocked is because they swapped lots of desert with Saudi Arabia to get this bit of coastline.

Jordan: Day trips from Amman

We used one one of our days in Amman to explore a bit further afield, and hired a driver to take us to the sites of Umm Qais, Ajloun Castle and Jerash (pictured below).

Jordan: Exploring Amman

When I went to Petra on a day trip from Egypt back in 2009, I always knew I wanted to go back and do Jordan properly. That time finally came last September and we began our adventure in Amman, Jordan's capital.

UK: House of Dreams

One bad thing about my Philadelphia work trip was that I couldn't share the fun parts with Olly who was at home working. Philadelphia's Magic Gardens were definitely the one thing I wish he could have done, so I had a Google to see what we could do in the UK that was similar. Enter, the House of Dreams.

UK: Isle of Wight

One of our breaks last year was on the Isle of Wight, where we headed mainly because we were going to the Isle of Wight Festival which is held every June (pandemic, aside) on the island.

Exploring Philadelphia, PA

Last September I jetted off to a new US city, Philadelphia, not because I fancied a holiday there, but because my work is headquartered there. But! I did luck out and the Monday was Labo(u)r Day. Since we landed lunchtime on Sunday that meant 1.5 days to play tourist before work began. Amazing!

Philadelphia: Where to eat and drink

As you know, I'm a bit of a foodie. If that's also your thing, you might want to know what I thought of all the places I ate at in Philadelphia. (Spoiler, I wasn't as impressed as I usually am with the food scene!)
