Florida Sinkholes Free Until February 2
For the next five days you can get Florida Sinkholes for free.
This is B-Movie horror stuff here...a reviewer said it well.
But it's more than that, really. It's a tale of hopes and dreams and lost innocence. It's a story of the world crumbling around us, and people not knowing what to do. This is America's story, damn it!
I wrote more about this wonderful adventure on my website, and if you're interested, check it out. Until then, just know that great literature is out there, waiting to be discovered.

Trying to Get Down to One
I’m trying to get down to one book.
What I mean by this is that I’m trying to get back into my old habit of only reading one book at a time.
I did that for a long time, and it has its benefits and it has its drawbacks.
It’s good because you stay on track, stay focused on one story or subject, and just get in that plow ahead mindset.
It’s bad because you can get tired of what you’re reading, and not read.
I never had that last problem when I wasn’t a dad. Now it’s tougher to not read. Reading takes more work, seems to take more time.
Thank God I don’t have a TV in my house or I’d probably read less than I do!
Anyways, I’m at two books currently being read, and that’s after finishing The Drawing of the Three again today. I’ll focus on the Teddy Roosevelt book now and then Rama II…I dunno, I’m not much in the mood to read that.
But I need to plow ahead, and will get back into that mindset.

Moving Through January
There’s not a whole lot exciting going on right now. I’m really busting my chops trying to write for other people, mainly because I was so broke at the beginning of this month.
I had car insurance due at the end of December, a huge power bill, and the rent. Throw Christmas on top of it, and I had about $4 by the time the first week of January was done.
Thankfully I got some work and am now doing alright, and will get through another month as a professional writer. Doesn’t sound so professional, huh?
Other than that, my mountain man novel about John Colter is coming along. If you like suspense and thrills set in a western atmosphere of the early 1800s, this is for you. I hope to have it done in February, and then the cover is something that will give me problems. Maybe $200 and I’ll get it taken care of.
Anyways, thanks for reading and reading interesting books on Goodreads – I always like to see what people are reading in my homepage feed.

2015 Goodreads Book Reading Competition
I’m trying to read 20 books in 2015, the same that I tried for in 2014.
Now, I came up short – I got 19 books, not 20.
I’d like to think that upping my challenge from 10 books to 20 books during the summer had something to do with this. And I’d also like to think that having a 3-year-old is also responsible.
Boy, in 2008 I read 120 books or so, and in 2009 it was more than 100 as well. I see a lot of people today doing 200 or more books for 2015.
How do you do that!?!
I’ve actually seen some that are 600 as well, and unless those are comic books, I’m sorry, I just don’t think it’s possible. But that’s just me.
Anyways, have a good 2015 reading year and I hope you can reach your goals!

Warming Up the Car
I'm warming up the car right now, and I just thought I'd write a short blog post about that.
First, do you need to warm up a car? I got into an argument with my mom on this a month ago. I guess newer cars don't need to be warmed up, and it in fact may damage their engines.
Hooey!
I grew up in Montana, and when it's a bit above zero, and a lot less with the wind, then you warm that car up. Besides, isn't it just better to drive down the road in a car that's not freezing, doesn't have the steering column acting sluggish, and is happier?
Yeah, I think it makes the car happier...I said it.
I'm just not going to compromise on this issue - I'm a firm car-warming advocate, take it or leave it.

Are You Interested in China?
I know you are. I know you’re interested in how that country came to be what it is today, and how the heck it managed to stay one country for so long – 2,500 years!
I also know you don’t want to read some old and stodgy history.
That’s why you’re in luck. Today I’m having a sale on my book The Warring States and you can get it for $0.99...a real steal.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AW4GBVG
War looms in the land that will one day become China. Seven States battle for power and influence in the waning days of the Zhou Dynasty, and each of them wants to be the best.
The State of Wei is one, and in 403 BC Marquis Wen of Wei finally conquers the small state of Zhongshan by flooding it with the diverted Fan River.
His power stands unopposed. A ceremony of honor is called in the capital city of Luoyang; Wen’s finally being recognized by the King of Zhou. Unfortunately two other states are as well, and these Three Jins must now stand on an equal footing. Must, that is, until the peaceful balance is uprooted and the Seven States start down a path of war.
This dazzling novel will thrill young and old alike. Historical fiction has never been more mesmerizing – more alive! – and the people and places of China have never felt closer.
Discover the ancient origins of China like you've never before – read The Warring States today!

Christmas Gifts
So far I've spent $250 or so on Christmas gifts. What does that get?
Several Lego sets for my son Paul;
$25 gift card to Starbucks for my wife Jenny;
$75 gift card to Amazon for her too;
$25 gift card to Amazon for my mom;
Some Hot Wheels cars for Paul;
A Russian music CD for Paul;
A star in Pegasus for my dad.
I think there's a few other things in there but I can't remember them. It's easy to spend a lot of money, but it's hard to have money for rent and bills come January.
Anyways, another week or so...and I'm done shopping. Yippee!

Dulce Base Alien Adventure
Do you like the X-Files? Does the book or film Communion scare you? Were those scenes in Aliens when everything gets blown to hell really the best in the series?
If you answered those questions, then Dulce Base is right for you. It’s a book that has action and suspense and thrills and greenish-ooze in place of blood for aliens from the Zeta-Reticulli system.
It also has China Lake grenade launchers, AR17 assault rifles, Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns, Colt .45s, Usiz, and just plain spit.
Yeah, 30 Special Forces soldiers in the 1970s invading a secret underground base in New Mexico. This book has it all, including a reference to the kitchen sink.
Check it out on Amazon today!

Wow, Friends with L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
L.E. Modesitt, Jr. is one of my favorite fantasy authors, and the reason for this are his Recluce books.
They're great, and I read the first 5 of them while living in China.
I sent him a friend request on Goodreads some time ago and today he added me. That's kinda cool, huh?
It's nice living in the 21st-century, where authors and entertainers you like can be so close.
So will I bother him and pester him all the time? I don't think so. But he is a Goodreads Author, and you can ask him questions about his books...as I did on what inspired him to write so much about carpentry (my grandpa was a carpenter so this always interested me).
Anyways, check him out and see if some of his fantasy books are to your liking!
