OK people I have just found the most...

OK people I have just found the most amazing thing.
I was watching His Last Vow and I noticed something familiar:
When Sherlock is pretending to go out with Janine we encounter Trash!John at his best. You can clearly see that he’s jealous. Here’s the thing: when she leaves, he gets up fake-smiling and puffs out his chest. REALLY HARD.
I REALISE I’D SEEN MARTIN DO THAT BEFORE
The second pic is from The Office where he plays Tim, who is in love with Dawn, the blonde over there, who coincidentally already has a boyfriend. In this scene, Tim is jealously watching while Dawn and her boyfriend kiss. Guess what?? HE FUCKING FAKE- SMILES AND PUFFS OUT HIS CHEST!! holy shit
I AM NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP PEOPLE, in fact here are the Youtube links to both of the scenes:
Sherlock: https://youtu.be/rUJQp7Mx8G0?t=21s
The Office: https://youtu.be/iEB4NHFPsRA?t=21m20s
I may just be reading too much into his acting but don’t tell me this isn’t an amazing “coincidence”.
Great video reference! It’s absolutely the same feeling he’s having – romantic jealousy.
"I remember asking Steven very early on “What’s his story? How did Sherlock become Sherlock? Is there..."
I remember asking Steven very early on “What’s his story? How did Sherlock become Sherlock? Is there trauma in his background, is there some form of backstory I should know about? Something I should have bubbling away as a subtext?”
And he said (Does an excellent Steven Impersonation) “No. He’s just Brilliant! He’s just really really clever.” And that was it!
So in my head I imagined maybe that his intelligence came out of some kind of insecurity. That he needs to prove something. Because it’s so relentless. And at times in-human and unfeeling and insensitive. And it’s taken Watson to bring him out on this journey. And… well, we’ll see, won’t we. Maybe there’s more to him than what we’ve seen so far.

And so it begins …

People are amazing.
OMG, I am so glad this is back on my dash. I was looking for it the other day, because someone was writing a meta, talking about hints in John’s blog, if I’m remembering correctly, and they had this quote from TEH:
“(…) you have to trust me. I’ll find the answer. It’ll be in an odd phrase
in an online blog, or an unexpected trip to the countryside, or a misplaced Lonely Hearts ad.”
And they jokingly wondered if we should be checking the lonely hearts ads for hints now. It totally made me think of this, and I couldn’t find it.
Now, here it is…

Sherlock Podfic Masterpost.
I never used to listen to podfics. I thought – well, will it be awkward? Do I even want to listen to fics read aloud?
Guys, it’s so fun. It’s like listening to an audiobook, except it’s your favorite fic. Escapism at its finest. Not to mention, we have some incredibly talented readers in this fandom. They put in huge amounts of time and effort to give us these fantastic performances. (For free!)
So how do you make this happen? Well, if you’re an iPhone user and want your fics in the car / at the gym / on the go, you want to download a few podfic files and put them in audiobook format. MP3s will work fine, but audiobook files are even better.
Here’s how to convert an mp3 file to an audiobook file on iTunes:
Download your podfic file from AO3 – it will be in mp3 format.
Add this mp3 to iTunes.
Right-click on the track. Select “Get Info” from the drop-down menu.
Go to the “Options” tab. You’ll see that where it says “Media Kind,” the mp3 file has defaulted to “Music.”
Go ahead and change that to “Audiobook.”
If you have a multi-chaptered fic, go back to the “Details” tab in “Get Info,” and select the tickbox that says, “This album is a compilation from multiple artists.”
Your audio file will now appear under Books -> Audiobooks, in iTunes, rather than Music.
For multi-chaptered fics, as long as you have identical info (artist and title) in the “Get Info” screen, and you’ve clicked the “compilation” tickbox, multiple files will sort themselves into chapters.
You can even add artwork if the track doesn’t include it. Use “Get Info” and then click the “Artwork” tab.The big difference here is that you can then use an app like iBooks or Audible to listen to your file as a “book” on your iPhone, and it will save your place if you need to stop.
Podfic Recs
I haven’t listened to all the podfics out there by any means. I’ve mostly found readers I enjoy, and then delved into their catalogs on AO3. Here are a handful of favorites, many of them long fics, in no particular order. (I like ‘em long. Shhh.)
aranel-parmadil & consulting-smartass: These two readers are each brilliant alone, but as a team they are magical. It’s impossible to tell that they record their collaborations halfway around the world from each other.
Performance in a Leading Role
Lifetime Achievement
The Great Sex Olympics of 221B (I died)aranel-parmadil: It was aranel’s reading of The Frost is All Over that addicted me to podfic in the first place. Her ability to do different accents made the experience totally immersive.
The Frost is All Over
Midnight Blue Serenityconsulting-smartass: There is something so warm about CS’ performances, and her comic timing is great. I also love how she delivers dialogue.
Carry On
Just a LittleLockedinjohnlock: A brilliant reader, and so prolific, I feel like a very lucky listener. She has tackled some huge, epic fics and I’ve loved every one. And her different accents in The Edinburgh Problem! Holy crap.
The Edinburgh Problem
Nothing to Make a Song About
The Moonlight and the FrostCellar Door: Cellar Door’s voice is so soothing, I can’t even describe. Especially love her Sherlock POV.
The Progress of Sherlock Holmes
A Symphony of Chemical Reactionsfinnigan: Such a good storyteller, with a great sense of pacing and drama. She’s done excellent versions of some fandom favorites.
The Quiet Man
A Cure for Boredomverityburns: How cool is it to have an author read their own fic aloud? Very, very cool, it turns out.
The Heart in the Whole
First Night OutThis is not a definitive list by any means – so if anyone else has Sherlock podfic recs, please do add to this post. Just wanted to share this with anyone who might be considering giving podfics a try. And to all the podficcers: Thank you. You all are amazing. Thanks for keeping me company.
@lockedinjohnlock-podfics is an amazing talent, and I adore what she’s created in her podfics of my works.
Another fantastic podficcer is @bagofthumbs, who is currently very patiently waiting on the next chapter of my WIP And Your Very Flesh Shall Be a Great Poem.
I love podfics! This is a great reference. Thanks for including Sex Olympics too.
aranel was amazing.

Self-Destruct
Uh oh. In ASiB, Irene showed us how to protect a cache of highly explosive, dangerous, valuable data.
Sherlock examined Irene’s phone from every possible angle, looking for a way to hack into it.
If he’s even remotely aware that Agra/Appledore is hiding behind a sealed door in his mind palace, pretty sure he’s been all over it, out of curiosity at least, to see if he can break the lock.
But the Holmes kids are clever. They know how to protect their secrets. From ASiB:
“Any attempt to open the casing will burn the hard drive.”
“Some data is always recoverable.” “Take that risk?”
“There will be two passcodes: one to open the phone, one to burn the drive.“
“We destroy this, then. No-one has the information.” “… unless there are lives of British citizens depending on the information you’re about to burn.”
**********
In TAB, Sherlock is attacking the locked room again. And (as usual) he’s like a dog with a bone. “I *have* to finish this.”
Big!Mycroft (aka Appledore!Sherlock) knows how relentless Sherlock can be when he’s on a case. He’ll finish this, end this, BURN it down.
And Big!Mycroft seems sad.
Because… well, he’s been living in that locked room for a long time. He might even have helped seal it shut. He believes the locks are unbeatable… And he is certain that the opening of Agra/Appledore will mean Sherlock’s death.
We’re going to see it all over again. Irene’s phone = Sherlock brain. Impasse.

Sometimes I don’t even understand why I spend so much of my free time doing these fic recs it doesn’t even feel like anyone cares. Like it takes me usually around 10 hours for each one because I have to find and figure out which ones I’m using and then read them and write descriptions. I don’t have many friends on this site and its just hard
I appreciate them! Very much!
Clues to John working undercover against Mary
It begins here:

It is in play here:

In series 4 we get this:
![]()
An MI6 agent who happens to meet John on his commute to work. Twice [red jacket and purple coat] It’s a secret meet up. Possibly hands John a note. See excellent post by @queerjawn below. And yes, it is same actress.
http://queerjawn.tumblr.com/post/150318789460/i-think-alison-garner-is-a-long-skirt-woman-at-the
Finally we have scenes filmed outside MI6, we have reports from crew that a scene with Martin and Benedict was filmed inside the MI6 building, plus we have several guests actors in MI5 and MI6 roles.
Then for me the clincher:
![]()
John’s changed. Not only his hair style but his attitude; in many of the setlock pics we see a more confident John, presenting a certain new level of swagger. It’s the John who moves in front of Sherlock when Sir Eustace lunges at him in TAB. This John is on the offensive, he’s tired of defending, he’s going to sort it before Sherlock gets hurt again. Even this:
![]()
Although worried, John is planning. Expect him to reign havoc in series 4.
John is so fucking tired of watching Sherlock killed or harmed. He will avenge all that.
S4 might be the height of BAMF John Hamish Watson we’ll ever see. (S5 might be the height of Epic Lover John.) He has always been a man of action and strong moral principles. He will fix this domestic mess and drag Mary Morstan to the fiery pits of hell for trying to burn their hearts out.
John is smarter than he looks - pretty damn smart.
When John said, “We decide if we want you or not” it cemented Sherlock’s mind palace scene of “There’s always two of us.” John has aligned himself with Sherlock and established himself as a separate entity from Mary even before Sherlock decided whether Sherlock himself wanted Mary.
John will cause Mary’s “problems of [her] future” and he knows it is his privilege.
Even Mycroft can’t wait to punish Mary (MI-5 & MI-6 cast), but this is John’s game now.
Mary Morstan-Watson is not morally gray. She was never shown to have ethical dilemmas and make judgment calls on gradients of bad and less bad. She is evil, full stop, even when a situation does not require her to be.
S4 will show, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Mary / AGRA is evil, so explicitly that only psychopaths will continue rooting for her as their poster girl.
God, I would love this so much. Narratively, it makes so much sense. I pray John has a secret plan. I love the bit about the MI6 agent at the bus stop. Never saw that before! Brilliant.
