The killer's distraction

“How many more must die?” she asked him angrily. But his eyes remained focused on the targets running in front of him. Exasperation dripped from his voice as he responded.“Just two more ghosts I have to kill and this level of Pacman will be complete, Mama! After that, I’ll come for dinner. Mommy promise!”

Author's note: This is my post for the "55 word fiction" prompt in Write Tribe's Festival of Words 3.

You can't keep a good heart down.

She's been a waitress, a sales girl, a bartender and a house painter. Over time, this woman became a standup comedian and then got a part in a tv show. She played the lead role in a comedy sitcom that was earning rave reviews after four solid seasons when she came out as being gay. Though there was support for her from the industry, a year later her show was cancelled. With no great offers coming her way, she went back to doing what she did best... making people laugh as a stand up comedian....

Book Review : The Night Shift by Stephen King

At the outset, let me say I am not a big Stephen King fan. I’ve read a lot of his work and feel he often tends to really take a long time to tell a story (he himself refers to it as his “literary elephantiasis”). But having said that, I am a fan of the person as a human being and the creatively wicked concepts that have come through from that mind. This is a mind that has made horror stories like Carrie and Misery while also penning down such amazingly sensitive themes like The Green Mil...

What if you gave me a chance to be you?

What if you gave me a chance to be you?

What if there were no shades of grey in us - just white and more pristine white?
What if there were no bad news?
What if the worst evil we were capable of was saying no to third helpings of dessert?
What if leaders fought wars over chess sets and allowed human beings and innocent children to live? What if we could actually strive for world peace and attain it instead of preaching about it behind firearms?
What if love were a disease we all contracted and c...

Healing via blogs

Today's prompt on Write Tribe's Festival of Words 3 is 'Blog Love' to showcase other blogs. Now I personally have a lot of blogs in my watch list that deserve showcasing but I'm going to talk about two very different blogs here today that help heal you... one looking after your physical ailments while the other focuses on easing your inner tensions.

Diabetes by Dr Riyaz Sheriff is almost into it's fourth year now in the blogosphere. With nearly a 120 posts, the doc provides up-to-date informat...

The Survivor's Secret

“How did you stay sane in the face of all that they did to you?” she asked after he had told his tale, the concern evident in her trembling voice.
He paused, deep in thought, before he replied.
“I always remembered the warrior Arjuna who would have been reduced to ashes early on in the battle under the rain of celestial weapons unleashed by Drona and Karna, had it not been for the  power of the man who silently guided him... the man holding the reins of his chariot who absorbed it all and...

#100HappyDays: Days 27 - 40

As I approach the halfway mark, I can reflect more clearly on the question everyone asks - "Does the #100HappyDays challenge work?"

My answer? Yes. It does.

Chronicling the happy moments every day, you tend to get comments about how lucky you are and how it's 'all happy happy' for you. The truth is, it isn't.
There are so many sad moments in between - illnesses, snide remarks, lingering sad memories and lost moments... but that's the point of the challenge, isn't it? To foc...

A tale of two love stories

Valentines Day may have passed but it's never a bad time for a few tales of love, eh?
Two separate fictional anthologies were released this fortnight that dealt with love in all it's various forms, be it puppy love, arranged love stories, stories of betrayal and loss.
They have one more thing in common: they both add to my list of stories published.

'An Atlas of Love'  (Rupa Publications) features stories selected from a nationwide contest held last year and adjudicated/edited by author Anu...

Speak with the Language of Love...

He is crying.
That is the first thing that strikes me as I cross the street towards him. I see people walk past him as he sits on the ground, his eyes staring at them with hope as he raises his hands towards them. There must be something wrong with him because they do not look at him as they pass him by.

He is talking.
It is a language I have tried to understand for a long time but it eludes me. I understand the tones of the voices occasionally but never the words. He is talking to them bu...
