MakeMyHome: Dining Hall - Back to your roots
Leave your mobiles on the drawers everyone because when we sit together for a meal, we share our smileys and jokes with the people on that table. The very simple act of dining together seems to have turned into a rarity today. Some sit by the television set, others take their food up to the room and those who actually make it down to the table end up fiddling with their mobiles at they eat.
How is it that we have become strangers within the same roof?

While c...

MakeMyHome - Bedroom: Luxury & Passion
The bedroom is not just about passion, as every starry eyed teen imagines... it is where we are our most vulnerable too. It is where we long to return to as the day winds down and where we wish we restart our clocks the next morning with the first rays of the sun.
It is not a room to neglect while designing your house and yet, so many do. They are too focused on the appearances they create with their living rooms and dining rooms for the guests that they forget to care about the most important...

MakeMyHome: Living room - The serenity within blue
I have always found peace in blue.
And I know I am not the only one. Contrary to the emotions associated with the popular saying about 'feeling blue', the actual colour itself is widely revered among artists and psychologists. It is a colour of trust and integrity; of reliability and peace. It is expressive and inspiring, like the morning skies above. And yet, like the oceans and the seas at your feet, it is also a fleeting glimpse of the wonders you have yet to experience; the possibilities t...

MakemyHome - The Kids room: Freedom of expression
You will be alright, my child.
I truly believe that we do you a disservice by forcing our opinions upon you. Especially when you are young, you need to be able to experience things with that inquisitive nature that is inherent within you; one which sadly too many parents choose to suppress within the written pages of textbooks.
We want their kids to be doctors and astronauts, the next Bill Gates or Einstein. Sadly, they do not want them to be kids anymore.
For you, I give the gift of the dreamer...

MakeMyHome - Study Room: My Faux cabin in the woods
I was always fascinated by the reading rooms portrayed in novels and Hollywood movies. A place within the house where one could retreat to his own solitude.
Available hereI do wish I could have that 'cabin in the woods' feel for my study as well, lending it an aura of being my own private haven away from the world.
Well, I may not be ready to purchase a new house in the forest lands just yet until I win that lottery I keep aiming for but I can certainly recreate the effec...

The 10 peppiest TV theme songs of the last 25 years
Of all the new shows that debuted in 2014, the one show that really stood out for me with respect to the creative title credits and theme tune was definitely True Detective. With Woody Harrelson and Mathew McConaughey at arguably the peak of their careers, the title credits just added an extra edge to the dark sombre mood that the show aimed to provide.
I loved it. But that got me thinking of all the shows whose theme tunes were truly memorable over the years. There used to be so many of them...

Dogyears : The couch dog
So I tried to make Snoopy a guard dog this month...
That elixir of knowledge, Wikipedia, defines a guard dog as "a dog used to guard against, and watch for, unwanted or unexpected people or animals."
I thought I would start his training with something simple so I set him off with the stray cats that roam around our house premises. As you can see, in the initial forays, he proved to be quite excellent at it and would track down any cat and chase him/her out of the house. But then slowly, I...

Home cooking - Malabar style
Every city comes with its quirks and eccentricities and my own home town of Kannur - the land of looms and lores - is no different. We tend to be more popular for our political misadventures but when all is said and done, there is one thing that you have to love about us - our home cooking.
Traditionally, Malabar cuisine refers to the style of cooking peculiar to the Northern part of Kerala. That long coastline that envelopes the regions of Kannur, Thalaserry and Kozhikode provided us with two...

Myriad Tales - A Season of Thrills, Chills and Spills
As the grand old warrior Bheeshma lies upon the bed of arrows, he is approached by a vivacious young reporter to recount his hilarious interpretation of what really transpired. Two inspectors posing as palmists, one absent minded detective, one surgeon, one hot secretary all are there for the industrialist's exhibition showcasing a legendary priceless diamond. Oh yes, I forgot... somewhere in that exhibition, a thief lies too, waiting for his chance. When as aspiring musician is framed fo...

You have only released my hand...

Author's note:
This is my take on The Moving Quill's "From 15 to 50" prompt where we have to write a flash fiction between 15 - 50 words, based any one of the 3 prompts provided ( check them out here).
For the record, the picture contains 42 words. More poignantly for me, it is a picture of my first batch of medical students having fun at the beach. I think everyone deserves to have that one memorable picture of them holding hands with their friends and facing the ocean waves, don't you? They...
