Pomegranate Nirvana

"Is there a problem, sir?" the serene voice asked politely, interrupting his flow of thought. Annoyed, he turned his attention from the confused waiter towards the old man who had just approached his table. His tense shoulders sagged and he raised his arms apologetically.     "I'm sorry. It has been a long day. I should not have been rude with your staff." The young man said.      "British?"     The for...

Book review - Urban Shots: Yuva

Urban Shots: Yuva marks the fifth short story anthology of the Urban Shots series after Urban Shots, Urban Shots: Crossroads, Urban Shots: Bright Lights (which I was lucky to be a part of) and Urban Shots: Love Collection.

Once more, we are given glimpses into a moment in time of various characters we 'regularly cross paths with' in our day to day activities here in India - from the divorced single mom to the cab driver out to make an extra buck, a widower moving on to a greedy family awaiting...

Indireads anthology - The Long and Short of It

Indireads first e-book anthology "The Long & Short of It" is a book I'm honestly proud to be associated with. Featuring the winners and runner-ups of their first international short story competition held in 2013, the book has 18 stories from four genres, namely:
01. Drama
02. Crime
03. Paranormal and
04. Romance

In my experience, Indireads has always struck me as a very professional and meticulous publishing company dealing with e-books and it shows in this book too. I found myself noddi...

What the 100HappyDays Challenge taught me...

How much do you believe in the concept of Rhonda Bryne's "The Secret?" For those who don't want to read the whole book before coming back here, the basic theme of the best-seller is that we tend to attract that which we focus on with our thoughts. The skepticism for me arose from the fact that we needed to visualize good luck and happiness as physical entities (rather than just events/emotions) that find their way to us when we keep thinking of them.

"71% of people tried to complete this chall...

"Read. Write. Listen. Evolve. Repeat." - My guest post

I ‘co-wrote my first script’ when I was in the ninth standard. A satire on the popular Star Trek series, it was written over the period of a single week. Over the years, I would continue that trend, writing 'romantic comedy sci-fi action fantasy thrillers' based around my friends during high school and later on, even in medical college.
The last book I wrote in medical college for my batchmates.
I'm still waiting for James Cameron to come and direct the movie based on it!Eighteen years af...

"Captain America : The Winter Soldier " Movie Review

(SPOILER FREE)
I've said it before and I’ll say it again: Marvel deserves credit for taking risks with their movies. In what they call Phase 2 (starting after the Avengers Movie), they have taken Iron Man and Thor on unfamiliar journeys in Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 respectively, leaving them significantly altered from where they started off.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (CA:TWS) takes it a step further, looking to change the outline of the Marvel Universe entirely. Designed less as a s...

Unrelenting...

She stared at the young man, moving rhythmically on top of the girl and her frown deepened. She couldn’t allow herself to be distracted by the family members waiting outside, angry at not being let in. She needed to focus. She watched as he continued pressing down upon her tiny frame and in her gut, she felt the girl’s heart begin to heal.“Stop.” She said. He did as he was told and she turned to the defibrillator, watching the squiggles start to form rhythmic waves.Dr Afreen suppressed a...

Thank you for dropping by...

No blog is complete without the love bestowed upon it by those who pass by and share their views.
While I do have a ‘top commentator’ widget on the blog always, it tends to showcase the most recent 1000 comments only on the blog. So I was overjoyed when I found one which actually calculated all the comments on the blog right from 2005 onwards. Unfortunately as it turns out, doing so slows down the loading of the widget (and hence the blog) considerably so I had to remove it. However, I di...

Off to Malaysia? Check out these awesome places.

Very few countries are truly blessed with the amalgamation of such rich and diverse cultures and landscapes as Malaysia. Unlike so many other nations in today’s world, Malaysia has always embraced its diversity and even celebrated it via its “Truly Asia” catch phrase. That welcoming nature which it has preserved across generations has always made it a personal favourite among my dream destinations. Of course, there is another more personal reason behind it but I’ll come to that later.
Let’s b...

Who will you really listen to, men?

During the course of this WriteTribe Festival of Words, I've already spoken about two women ( here and here ) who inspired me with their deeds. So now, when the topic is Women and it's Women's Day, it's kind of ironical that I choose to talk about a bunch of men, instead.

I personally don't believe in the logic of advertising agencies that roping in a big celebrity helps sell a product (eg: Abhishek Bachchan selling me Prestige cookers and Sunny Deol selling me underwear comes to mind.)
But the...
