Hidden Spectrum
The initial plan involved nine of us. Tired and weary after an all-nighter, most of us had dozed off as soon as we had reached our homes with the promise of meeting up for the new 3-D blockbuster release later that night. Of the gang, three backed off before I even woke up around lunch time. Another two developed sudden family commitments. By the time Sheila called me to see if at least I would be there, our colossal army was down to a tiny herd of three: Sheila, Nitu and myself.
Nitu wa...

The Games We Play

October issue in my column "An Appletini
A Day..." Click the picture to read the entire
magazine online for free. The other day, I was in the operation theater with a patient and about an hour into the surgery, there was only one thought going through my mind: I swear I'm going to kill this girl. Now, that's a pretty severe thought to cross the mind of a doctor and definitely not one you want to hear from the anaesthesiologist handling your case....

Staying safe in India
It hurts to say this but India is regressing. We need to accept that fact.
Many were so outraged when the details of the New Delhi gang-rape case first came to light that they did something not even the most wizened politicians could anticipate - they came out onto the streets in overwhelming numbers, demanding measures be taken to keep them safe. They were given assurances and promises and finally pacified after a tense week of tears and water cannons.
Sadly, we are still failing you....

What do you pray for?
Over the years, my definition and method of praying has changed quite a lot.
As a child, morning and evening prayers were a quintessential part of my life. After returning from school in the evening in Dubai, we would bath, pray for half an hour and only then sit down for dinner. That formula stayed put throughout most of my high school years in India as well.

100 days of Honda Brio
Author's note: I really appreciate all the advice everyone gave me on which Android smartphone to choose and welcome more opinions on the same. One of the more common replies I got was "Just choose one and go for it. The more you check things out, the more confused you will get." They are right, of course. And if you think choosing a mobile is taking me long, let me assure you... choosing my first car took the better part of eight months and even caused a company to cancel production of a car...

The hunt for a good Android smartphone
Help a guy out, will ya?
I'm usually wonderfully quick at making wrong choices in my life but luckily that doesn't extend to purchases. So I'm on the lookout for a new Android mobile (sorry, iPhone fans... I just don't like certain limitations of IOS) and I want your inputs on what to get.
HTC ONE
First of all, my prime needs: (In decreasing order)

Dogyears@Godyears - Snoopy File 01.
Ever had one of those days where your own dog is so embarrassed to be seen with you that he hides his face to avoid having to talk with you?

Sigh... Dogs have selfless love, they said. Selfless love, my hiney!
Anyway, I don't have any prizes to offer but I would love to hear your comments/captions for the above picture of this rapidly growing 4 month old pup who is now chasing my two year old doberman around the house.

Know that you are not free
Once upon a time, we were ruled by the British. They came to our country under various pretexts before finally usurping our land and our freedom. And rule us, they did. We parted with the fruits of our hard earned labour, our dignity, our wealth and our land. Women were raped, the poor were plundered and justice was made a mockery. There were those who rose against their tyranny - and died for it. There were also those to advise the Britishers for their own nefarious reasons... people w...
