Anaesthesiologists save woman's life mid-air by making breathing device during flight

This incident occurred in Januray 2018. About 20 minutes into a JetBlue flight to Jamaica, an elderly woman started struggling to breathe. When reassurance by the air hostess failed to help, a nurse nearby tried to intervene. That was when the crew realized that the woman's condition was extremely serious. In fact, things took a rapid turn for the worse when the woman stopped breathing.
As fate would have it, seated in the same flight were not one but two doctors specially trained to...

Man pays off utility bills of underprivileged to help during harsh winters

There was a time in the 1980s when a young Michael Esmond struggled to pay his utility bills. During one of the coldest winters in Florida back then, he had his gas shut off and struggled through the entire winter with no heating. The memory of those horrible days came back to the elder veteran this 2019 as Christmas approached and a horrible winter loomed. Having seen better days since then, the Florida business owner no longer has to worry about paying his bills. But he knew there were...

A Simple Gesture forces LGBTQ Families to Introspect

What does it feel like to be rejected by your own family, simply because your beliefs are different from theirs? To be isolated and cut off? Painful as it is to say, the truth is there are millions around suffering this heartbreaking pain even today, unable to even cry in front of a cynical world as they walk alone. One father understood and decided to make a difference.

Howie Dittman attended the Pittsburgh Pride Parade in June 2019, an event organized to support the LGBTQ population around....

He turned his own darkness into light for 1000s of Indian children

For scientist Dr Chandrasekhar Sankurathri, life consisted of working as a visiting faculty for the Ministry of Fisheries in Canada and an evaluator for Canada's Ministry of Health was balanced with enjoying the love of his young wife and two children. Tragedy struck however when his entire family was killed in the Air India Flight 182 bombing on 23 June 1985. Disillusioned, Chandrasekhar spent years after that trying to find a purpose in life.
I still remember seeing off my wife, son...

Town rallies to help 95-year-old woman swindled out of her life savings

95 year old Barbara Hinckley from Auburn, Maine suffered a terrible loss last year, being robbed of her entire life savings. Targeted by a con artist, the normally astute ex-librarian was convinced that she had won a contest with a prize of $2.5 million and a Mercedes-Benz. Progressively fooling her, the conman succeeded in emptying her bank account worth $16,000 (Rs 11.9 lakhs) leaving the old woman penniless and her family distraught.

Store owner replies to every letter to Santa sent by children in his city

Aleem Chaudhry, the owner of Gino's Stop-N-Buy deli situated in San Antonio provides his customers with yummy sandwiches. But he's got another special gift that makes him a godsend when Christmas arrives.

Every year, Aleem puts up a bright red mailbox at his deli. This mailbox, meant exclusively for 'letters to the North Pole' - initially placed as a fun Christmas decoration - took a funny turn when young children started to actually drop off letters meant for Santa Claus. The letters would be...

Heroes of Kindness - 2020 Edition

I find real-life heroes.
In the midst of all the gloom and darkness that the media envelopes us in, I find compassionate souls - normal everyday people - from across the world who do kind deeds and help those less privileged. They barely get 15 minutes of fame in the modern world.
I want them to have more.
It is why I showcase them here, helping their stories reach a wider audience while simultaneously inspiring the reader to understand that:
a) they too are capable of becoming a 'Hero of...

How can you boost your immunity as you grow older? #EnsureImmunity

The coming months are going to be tough. The pandemic that has swept the world is now at Indias doorstep and trust me, the numbers are frightening. As an anaesthesiologist working in intensive care units, I know how easily the health of people can take a turn for the worse in a matter of hours or days. More so when it comes to the elderly whose health isnt as strong as it used to be. Chronic disease like hypertension, heart disease and diabetes may already exist, thus putting them in a higher...

What if I told you that you're #Covid19 positive already?

It is as simple as that. What if I told you that you have the dreaded corona virus infection right now? How would you react?

Would you be scared? In denial? Go home and inform your family? Perhaps, not inform anyone for fear of being ostracized? Go into hiding? Seek alternative medicine healing options?

Let's talk about this very likely possibility.

I can't be COVID-19 positive, doctor. I have no history of meeting anyone who flew in from Italy or China.
Phase 2 of the transmission revolved...

My theme for the 2020 #BlogchatterA2Z Writing Challenge is...

The #BlogchatterA2Z challenge taken up every year by thousands of bloggers across the world involves writing one post a day for every day in the month of April (except Sundays), each post corresponding to a letter of the alphabet.

I first took up this challenge in 2016 and chose to write on something I consider myself a true connoisseur on - TV sitcoms!

tv show trivia list The shows I wrote about back in 2016. You can access the full list here
I wrote over 20,000 words about TV shows in just that one month for...
