Welcoming Rakuten Indonesia

Just check 'em out for extra hot price of cool items ;)

Kalau ada barang yang ingin dibeli, sebelum belanja register dulu jadi member Rakuten. Proses pendaftarannya mudah tinggal klik "pendaftaran Member" di bagian atas. It's FREE of charge. Cuma perlu isi email dan password, that's all. Nanti alamat kamu diminta lebih lengkap pas kamu sudah selesai belanja and ready to pay.

Seru deh.  Selama bulan Maret 2011, pas lagi masa promo nih, Rakuten ngasih gratis 1 bulan biaya buka toko di Rakuten. Caranya cukup follow @RakutenIndo and like Facebook Rakuten selama bulan Maret 2011. Gampang banget, kan? More info please call: 021-50626676

Chic, affordable and green :D

So, tell me, how's your method to apply green living in your daily life?

Jakarta Street Kids

In one fine afternoon, me & my friend @adhisaputra walk across the Cikini street. We talked about writing, human interest, and everything in between. Suddenly a boy following me, offering books he carried. I said, I'll buy the book, but you must follow me. Then we stop to a very famous chicken porridge restaurant. I then started a conversation about what's he's doing on the street (find money to buy food, he said). I asked him about his dreams, he said he wanted to be a football player, like Gonzales. You should see the spark on his eyes and his smile when he told me about his dream :) It's so rewarding.

And more children start coming unannounce. This time they're shoe polisher girls. They sell their service for Rp 5.000 per shoes or less than $1. They use the money to buy food. Sometimes they have to work up til 1 am or staying up all night, in the dangerous Jakarta streets, if they haven't collected money :(

They don't go to school, because even though school is free, they still have to pay for books, not to mention the shoes they need to attend classes. It's all expensive and out of reach. At first, their dream is to become a doctor but they revised their plan, they said they want to be a woman police officer so they can send away homeless people, just like what they watched on the street :(

They're very excited and happy to watch themselves in the video. They laugh the whole time. And that. Is the most wonderful moment of my day.

Children education is still my main concern. Me, @kreshna and @inandatiaka are now preparing a concept to make a better education environment in Indonesia. The hints? http://wajibbelajar.com :) More info soon. Hopefully there will be more access to education for kids that live on the street like them.

If you're interested to help raising the awareness in your city, just leave a message in comment box below!

The Amazing February

So I wrote about my progress in January 2011. Now I want to share what's happened in February 2011. February has been fabulous for me! Not because it's a month of love (they say), but because I (and friends) hosted 5 events in a month! For me, who was once a painfully shy girl and never involve in any organizations or activities, this is something.

#StartupLokal Meetup v.10

It's started with #StartupLokal monthly meetup on 10th February. #StartupLokal is an organization who gathered online business owners, investors, startup enthusiasts, every month to hear more about Indonesian startup updates, soft skills knowledge and discussion with the panelists. Me, @SaGad, @Nuniek and @Nataliardiantoare the initiators. Every month, 150 – 300 people coming to our event. One of the highly expected events of the month.

NulisBuku E-love Story #HappyWriting Book Launch

On February 12nd, one of my companies Nulisbuku.com held a book launch (sponsored by Acer Indonesia). Actually we already throw the campaign of #HappyWriting for 2 weeks before the launch. 500 short stories collected, and 36 books are published from this event. My team & partners have work really hard and the event was a total success. We're really really happy! Cheers to @byotenega @b4nch4 @okaphoto @sihijau @ninaniena

Fresh: Women, Love and Social Media

February 14th, on Valentine's day, Fresh Forum throw a gathering with topic Women, Love and Social Media. Fresh has been around for almost 2 years. We started from a small cafe with 20 people to hundreds of people with bigger and posh venue. Our event is more to general audiences who have interest in technology world in general. We rarely sit down and plan our event in a proper way, but we rock it anyway haha… salute to my partners @caturpw @chandramarsono @pitra @ramyaprajna @pinkparis @anantya and Anggun Himawan

Girls in Tech Indonesia soft launch

So, me, @anantya @adheRiya have been talking about making a 'girlie' event. And because we are girls who have IT business, then we decide this should be about IT gals. So, we took the format of Girls in Tech and brought it to Indonesia, we create Girls in Tech Indonesia. February 17th, we held our first event. Around 30 people coming. All girls in tech (working or own IT company). We have a wonderful discussion, many said, so women-ly. We talked about time management, multitask, women behavior at work, listen to mbak Shinta bubu.com story about her success, and even spread facial coupon from Pond's Institute (girls love goodies) :D We love to hang out with girls and making the boys curious LOL… next events should be more fun!

Nulis Buku Club Chapter 2

Nulis Buku Club has been a long time dream of mine, who's longing for a sophisticated kind of event for writers, where we could sit together and discuss a lot of things about writing. And I said to my partners, we have to make this work :D

The first Nulis Buku Club was held in January, inviting best selling author @TrinityTraveler (a famous travel writer) and our @nulisbuku writer @JiaEffendi. We launched a book too, #28hari by @ndorokakung & @beradadisini. More than 50 enthusiast people coming and we're covered by JakTV.

On February, Nulis Buku Club Chapter 2 held a more intimate event. We're in a VIP room with 20 writers-wanna-be, listening to the launch of Curhat Cinta Colongan along with the short movie and 3 soundtrack songs. I share about how to get inspiration and of course, last but not least, our beloved guest writer is Mbak @AlberthieneE the most popular biography & novel writer in Indonesia :D She was very passionate and our passion in writing burning because of her. Really grateful to have her. The discussion is fruitful and everybody's inspired to write right away, she even ask one of the audience to write in the same book with her. What a great honor!

5 events in a month sounds ambitious. Yes, I was tired & overwhelmed at one point, but I have great partners who make it all happened, and all the positive feedback make it all worth it. Thank you, Allah. For keeping me healthy, body & mind.

See you guys on the next events!

What Bill Gates & I have in common

So yesterday I went to Mekar's office with @chandramarsono to have a private assessment on our new business together. Razz from Mekar gave a lot of useful insights on what kind of startup that investors looking for and how to make our business plan works the charm.

One of things that Razz did was identify-ing our personality strength, to see if me and Chandra could work nicely together. I must answers some questions using Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), to refer to one of sixteen personality types. When I finished, Razz checked my answers and said, "You have a very interesting personality."

Turned out, my type of personality is ENTJ (Extrovert, iNtuitive, Thinking, Judgement). Razz said it's a perfect entrepreneur type like Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Warren Buffet, etc. I was like, WOW :D Really?

He said I'm 100% extrovert. That's amazing. I'm pretty sure I was born introvert. I struggled to communicate with people. I watched my shoes when I walked. I didn't participate in any organizational things during high school. Well, now I think  I must pat myself on the back for this achievement hehe

So after I got back home, I do some research to get to know more about me as an ENTJ. Wikipedia said, ENTJs are among the rarest of types, accounting for about 2%-5% of those who formally tested. Woot!

ENTJs make decisions quickly, and are quick to verbalize their opinions and decisions to the rest of the world. That's true.

ENTJs major quest in life is to constantly take in knowledge and turn that into something useful, the ENTJ will try to turn everything into a learning experience. True.

In conversation, they are very direct and straightforward.

ENTjs are very enthusiastic when starting new projects. They normally start small, gradually working their way up to bigger things. They can work very hard and extremely quickly, often working on many tasks simultaneously.

Interesting view on ENTJs & relationship

ENTJs make aggressive, enthusiastic partners who take their commitments very seriously.

ENTJs can withdraw easily from romantic situations if they get hurt. They practice complete control of their emotions and impulses if they are continuously hurt in relationships. They may not show that they're hurt, but will dramatically change their approach to people in that regard. Later in life, the same ENTJ can realize that some people are worth every effort.

ENTJs generally look for someone who is reliable, emotionally stable and not needy.

ENTJs generally get along great with: ENFP, INFP, ENTJ and INTJ personalities, but they will be interested in any relationship that offers growth and learning experiences.

ENTJ strengths & Weaknesses

ENTJ Strengths

Genuinely interested in people's ideas and thoughts
Enthusiastic and energetic
Fair-minded and interested in doing the Right Thing
Very good with money < I must questioned this haha
Extremely direct and straightforward
Verbally fluent
Enhance and encourage knowledge and self-growth in all aspects of life
Able to leave relationships without looking back < Amin
Able to turn conflict situations into positive lessons
Extremely high standards and expectations (both a strength and a weakness)
Usually have strong affections and sentimental streaks < #lemper
Planner, tries to prepare for everything
Cool headed. Able to endure lots of stressful situations and stay calm in a crisis
Usually don't have many fears because they rationalize everything
Organized, scheduled and orderly

ENTJ Weaknesses

Can be self centered, arrogant or even narcissistic (ENTJs are smart and they want everyone to know it. They like themselves, sometimes too much) < haha :p
Can be opinionated or stubborn (might believe they're always right)
Very critical about incompetency and inefficiency (especially in the work place) < This explains a lot of things :p
Tendency to have difficulty listening to others < I should shut my mouth up
Extremely high standards and expectations (both a strength and a weakness)
Not naturally in tune with people's feelings and reactions < why are you crying again? :p
Tendency to want to always be in charge, rather than sharing responsibilities < I have to trust & delegate
May be slow to give praise or to realize another's need for praise
Tendency to make hasty decisions
Make explode with terrible tempers when under extreme stress < this explains my teenage years :p

If you're interested to know more about your personality type, I haven't try this but you could try take test online at MyPersonality.info

Hopefully it'd help you to identify yourself or understanding your business partner and your loved one.

Have fun and  let me know which type are you!

Fashion Tips

Okay, because today is Sunday, I'd like to write something light.

Girls have been asking me on how to look cool, even if you're a hijaber. So, I'm going to write some fashion tips according what I've been doing all these times.

Many of you should have known about what's happened in my life recently. And through the process, I lost a lot of weight. About 10 kgs. And that really what makes me buying new size of clothes and surprised myself that I could fit into Levi's size 26 (okay, maybe now it's 27 hehe).

Because I have to buy new clothes anyway, I decided to change my style. I tried to learn on how to shine with fashion, of course to boost my self confidence, so I can feel good and make the best first impression for everybody that meet me.

A year ago, my style would be t-shirt/shirt + jeans. That's all. It was blah. Now, I'm going to share Ollie fashion tips!

Use something fit

When I lose weight, I always thought that my old clothes are fine with me. That's totally wrong. It looks baggy and make me looks like I'm drowning in my clothes. Look yourself in the mirror, are you using that 1 size bigger tee you bought on sale, or you just don't care because that's all you have on top of your drawer? Ask your girl friends to shop with you. Let them see you in the clothes. If it's fit, it always look good on you.

Shop smart: Mix & Match

By now maybe you already whine on how to shop more because you simply don't have the budget. Well, I didn't have much budget on fashion either. I do mix and match. I bought expensive basics and combine it with something I bought from Matahari or the vintage market like Pasar Senen. I rarely wear only 2 piece of clothes, I must add something like vest, blazer, jacket, or coat.

Invest in great jeans

Great pair of jeans will save your day. Make sure you have at least 1 jeans that flatter your looks. My favorite jeans are from Levi's. And this is not a paid post hehe. Expensive jeans also make you want to lose weight immediately when it started to unfit :p

Be different

I like to shop for unique pants. That will immediately boost my appearance. People notice it immediately. Just bought something that is not the same from other people. Throw away that standard black trousers. Everybody are wearing them.

Get a fabulous shoes

In terms of shoes, I'd go for basics. Strappy shoes in nude color like light brown that will go nicely with my brown bag. Also nude color shoes in pastel pink because I like the color. Some basic black and white. And a pair of shoes to kick my mood: bloody red. All with heels, 3 inch minimum. It'd correct your posture. I only have 1 black flat shoes I wear when I go to vacation.

Get accessories

Even on a regular tee + jeans, you can boost your appearance with great accessories. Pick eye catching bangles, necklace, rings, or scarf to go with it. Also get a stylish oversized belt. It will be very useful at any circumtances. The scarf I wear in the picture below is masterpiece from @lazulisarae combining denim + batik

Choose your statement

Fashion statement it's that one thing you want to speak thru your fashion. Maybe today my fashion statement is my flowery pants. Maybe tomorrow it's my red shoes. Just wear a statement that make girls give you that 3 seconds look or even ask where did you buy your outfit. You have to have it everytime.

Watch for trends

You might want to browse on some fashion blogs and copied style that you love and currently IN. Like leopard prints shoes or bags :P

Be confident

Last but not least, you have to trust yourself and be confident on wearing what you choose for today. The key is feeling good. If any of outfit you choose make you uncomfortable, change it immediately and never wear it again. Because it will never make you feel good anyway. You just forgot that it ever make you feels bad.

Happy styling, girls! If you have more tips, you can add on comment box below.

Now, show me your looks!

It's Over

After 7 years of relationship & 2 years of marriage, me and Anang Pradipta, have decided to divorce. All the painful process has been done and taken care real well by our lawyer.

We're really sad for what's happened and hope our big family & friends could understand our decision. We care for each other deeply and remain friends. All matters regarding personal life of Anang Pradipta or business side of Gamexeon.com or GantiBaju.com is no longer in my territory. You could contact Anang Pradipta directly on that matters. Also for my personal life & all my businesses have nothing to do with Anang Pradipta, you could contact me directly.

My dear friends, I understand that this is shocking to you, and for us as well. But we need you to support and pray for us the best to continue our journey of life.

Some of you would asked, What's Happened? I thought you both perfect couple?! Well, it's happened so fast and struck us down. I believe we were happy, until we're not. To be frank: in life, sh*t happens. And how you handle it that matters. All possible reasons that could cause a divorce already happened in our marriage, so this is the final decision. We've been on a series of answer searching and we get so many lessons from this unfortunate event. That way, we're still grateful for what's happened and wish the best to each other so we can move on smoothly.

The next question would be, Who's fault is this? Like I said, it's a series of unfortunate events, so it's really hard to point a finger to just 1 person. We both are adults and we both understood and also take responsibility of whatever actions or decision that we take in our life.

Anyway, for me, writing heals any wound, and it'd came naturally that I might write a story about our separation in a book, about how it happened and about the process of finding the answers to the crossroads.

I'm not closing down http://unwinged.salsabeela.com as a reminder that we once love each other so much. I'm opening a new website http://love.salsabeela.com to write all about love & life that I learned from these past 11 months and also for new love that I hopefully will experience in the (near) future.

I love my life too much, I want to be strong, even stronger. Thank you for my family & friends that has been supporting me all these time. I can't survive without you guys. Life is a journey, and I'm excited to see what's next.

Once in a while I might going to need a shoulder to cry on, and I hope you, my friends, could always be there for me.

Love you all.

What I did in January 2011

I wrote some sort of New Year's resolution for 2011 and I wanna keep track on the progress

My plan to grow Nulisbuku.com now we started a new partnership in writing competition campaign with Acer. A new level in our 3 months old age.

For my challenge to write a biography book, I already meet my inspiring auntie that used to create an amazing women movement called PKK. She's going to collect all the datas and that's already first step of the way.

#StartupLokal initiators (yep, including me) will go to Ireland to visit European Sillicon Valley invited by Ireland Embassy. We're going to learn a lot!

#StartupLokal will also celebrate its birthday in April with 7 days "Indonesia Digital Startup Festival" event. Can't wait!

About my concern in women issues, me and Anantya already create a new club called Girls in Tech Indonesia (follow @GirlsintechID). We're going to have our first meetup event in February. I also will give some inputs in a discussion about women in ICT for the government soon.

Community building. As I wrote this, I'm sitting in Anomali Coffee where the first NulisBuku club take place. There will be 50 writers gather together to enjoy book launch, talk show, writing discussion, and many more. It will be an exciting event!

Tempalabs.com released an android game called Candi Craft to realize our commitment to put the feel of Indonesia culture and art in our  products (games).

TempaLabs playground is already there in Depok and ready to serve as "hackerspace" for game devs. We currently finalizing the concept.

More time in art? I managed to watch Twilite Orchestra: Cantabile with my artsy buddies. :D

I just need one more thing, nobody approached me yet to talk about my socio-travel plan. Still waiting for the opportunity. :D

Looks like everything falls in to right places. I'm 300% optimistic with my resolutions this time :D

How about you? Tell me your progress.

Children education in Indonesia

When you create excitement, education happened!

That's what I learn from watching one of TED videos about a professor who put PCs in slum areas in India and just let it there without doing any mentoring to the kids around. In days, even hours, a lot of them could create things using the computer. No one telling them what to do. It's amazing!

One day I got a chance to visit a mosque at one of slum areas in South Jakarta. I didn't teach the kids how to read Quran, because they already have good teachers for that, but I told them my stories. About pursuing my dreams.

They are kids who glad enough to survive day after day. Living side by side with the garbage their parents collect everyday to make a living. All of them didn't have a dream at all. Or passion. Or anything. I can only see blank stare in their eyes. No burning desire to get whatsoever ahead in their life. They're afraid to speak their mind. And reluctant to even speak it through writing. I'm very concerned. These are Indonesia's next generation!
I have a dream for them. That someday they could turn their life around, brought their family with them, out of the slums. Starting with writing and reading. More knowledge, more insights, more sharing, more creativities, would grow these kids.
I started series of public speaking in universities and schools to encourage more young people to write and eventually read. I challenge them to write in several days. Create a book together at Nulisbuku.com. Just be a creator, not only a follower. This project somehow excite them. One of the students at St. Ursula even said that she's the one who's going to make the cover of their class book. Awesome!

I love the young. I love children. They are my source of happiness, my teacher. I want to see them grow & shine!

If you think I can help you in any way for my concern in children education, or if you think you have the same concern, just leave a message in this comment box :)
