Tips on Effective Delegation

The first rule of management is delegation. Don't try and do everything yourself because you can't. -Anthea Turner

Sebabnya?

I identify myself as an imperfectionist. So, it's easier for me untuk delegasikan tugas saya kepada team. Kalau Anda belum bisa, give it a try! Kan katanya mau jadi The Lazy Millionaire :D

Berikut tips untuk pendelegasian tugas yang efektif:

Ketahui deskripsi tugas yang ingin di-delegasikan. Be spesific.
What's the point of delegating kalo begitu?
Spesific deadline and result.

Urusan bisnis pun lancar :D

Good luck & start delegating!

Retired Before 35

"What do you mean retired? Do you really really wanted to retired… NOT WORKING at all… before 35?"

That's my friend's reaction when I told him that my goal is to retired before 35.

What I meant about 'retired' is the joy of financial freedom. That I no longer HAVE TO work in order to fulfill my expenses. I work just because I WANT TO work, not because I have to.

At @GirsinTechIDmeetup about financial planning, I met @mrshananto and I ask her about the possibility of my financial goal. She said, that basically, the concept of retired now means: your passive income can cover your monthly expenses, and of course it's achieveable.

Wiki says, Passive Income is an income received on a regular basis, with little effort required to maintain it.

Ways to get passive incomes are varies. I get it from my book royalties and businesses  that I ran with partners. But of course I need more, can be from property, dividen from stocks, etc.

And I found a very interesting book that in-sync with this, it's The Lazy Millionaire by Marc Fisher. In his book, he points out about the good habit of a lazy millionaire with passive incomes.

Habit of a Lazy Millionaire according to Marc Fisher:

Work less, get more
Effectively manage time: prioritize! Do the task that is the most profitable for you first
Capable to delegate and let other do the work. The Lazy Millionaire knows that 80% of the key to successful delegation is… choosing the right person
Have other sources of alternative revenue, especially residual
Always have clear objectives/goals

The book is a very great book. Seriously, you must get one!

By the way, I still have 7 more years to get more passive incomes before reaching 35. So, hopefully I can make it. I'm ready to plan it with my financial planner :D *try to erase the image of new car in my mind* :))

Geniuses often accomplish more when they work less -Leonardo da Vinci

Spread Inspirations at Nulis Buku Club Palembang

The first time I met @dheaadyta  was at the launch of NulisBuku.com, October 2010. She successfully completed the writing in 9 days challenge along with 98 other writers. The launch of NulisBuku.com event was also the launch of 99 writers books and she came all the way from Palembang with her family to attend the event. It was a dream come true for her (and other writers that day).

Her passion in books and writing drive Dyta to immediately follow Jakarta after we held the first Nulis Buku Club (NBC). She started to organizing meetups, gather friends to meet monthly and called it NBC Palembang. And for the 4th #NBCPalembang event, I really glad to come and participate on their request.

NBC Palembang is the first Nulis Buku Club in Sumatra, and I want other cities in the west side of Indonesia look on how Palembang run the event. They have talkshow on book writing with me and Dyta, launching 5 books and inviting media + tv to come and cover the story!

In every NBC, there's always one or two people coming far away from the venue. Yesterday, we have someone who take 2 hours journey to Palembang, someone from Jakarta (my long lost soulmate @inandatiaka :D)and other from Balikpapan :D

Every writers whose book launched yesterday got a chance to share about their book. It was a very emotional moment because for a writer, a book is not only writing result, but also a reflection of their heart. The 5 books launched at #NBCPalembang are: Belajar Lebih Bijak, PreWedding, Cerita Cinta Colongan, Mimpi & Heart Decision. I read PreWedding on my journey back to Jakarta, and I must say, I'm impressed! There are many hidden talents in Indonesia, and I know you are one of them!

Perfection is indeed a journey. I know Dyta started somewhere and now her writing and editing must have been a lot better (she already publish 3 books with NulisBuku.com). And from 'only' a participant in NulisBuku.com event, now she's an organizer and the gate of opportunities is now open for her and NBC Palembang, as PAL tv (Palembang local tv) has shown their support to NBC Palembang.

Congratulations team NBC Palembang, you guys has gone to the next level and set a high standard for NBC event, we from NulisBuku.com are so proud of you! Keep writing, keep inspiring!

Inspirations from My Office Girl

My #olliebday writing challenge come from my personal experience. As a writer, I always want to see someone, not solely from the interface that I see (excuse my geeky phrase -_-), but from other perspective. Because I believe everybody always has an inspiring story we can learn from, and it can be good for my writing, and of course for my self development.

So, let me share a story about my Office Girl. Her name is Susi. She works for a cleaning service company in my office building, and I hire her (thru her company) to help in my office. I see her a lot, we smile to each other and she'd greet me every time she meet me, but we never actually talk.

Then several times I see that the girl and boy who's cleaning in my office is changing. I don't see Susi much around anymore. Then one day, after 3 years, I finally tap her shoulder and asked to chat with her. She seemed confused but agree to sit down in the hallway with me.

From the conversation, I found out that she already become a leader in her office. She's a boss now. She would be the person who hire new office boys/office girls. She'd teach them the 'cleaning skill'. She'd be the person who control and manage everything. And I could see that she could handle it very well.

At first, she was afraid to take the opportunity given to her by her boss, but she took it anyway. She learned everything by doing, and perfecting her leadership skill each and every day. She actually listens to her team, and because she once part of them, she understands her team and protect their needs.

I asked what's her plan for the future, and she said: "I want to have my own business. But meanwhile, for now, I'm going to continue doing what I do. I enjoy it. Because by working in my current office, I have more time to do some part time jobs." She's been working on several part time jobs to be able to save for her child's education fund. She told me that also invest in gold. Which is for me, her way of thinking is absolutely amazing. Many Jakarta people with extravagant salaries trapped in consumptive mindset that make them tied in lots of (credit card) debts. I once was one of them. Maybe still is (consumptive) hehe.

We certainly need more women like Susi. She's independent, willing to learn, effective   leader, a mom who care for her family, and I hope I could contribute to create and empower more powerful women in the making (like Susi) for our better future. Hope you are with me!

On Celebrating #OllieBday

Can't believe it's my birthday again! This year, I spend my birthday in Singapore with friends while attending Echelon 2011.

This year's birthday is officially the first birthday without him. It's been 10 years, and he's always around. But last year, I felt like I already 'lost' him anyway. So, for this year, I have pretty much moving on. I felt happier. I felt like I'm at my very best condition right now, emotionally & spiritually. Surrounded by family & friends. Felt loved. More and more happier. Felt blessed on everything I do. And I'm so grateful for that.

For my birthday, I make a writing challenge on twitter with hashtag #olliebday. I give people several hours to write about the 'invisible man/woman' in their life that has been supporting them all these time (but left un-notice). It could be the security guy, the street seller, your cleaning lady, etc. They should talk or take inspiration/life lessons from their 'invisible man/woman'. The results are amazing. People take it from different perspective and write it in creative way. Very proud of you all!

Thanks for participating in #olliebday writing challenge. All writings will be collected and self published at NulisBuku.com.

The winner who win IDR 1.000.000 worth of books from me & Kutukutubuku.com is Erlina Juwita @elrights Congratulations ^-^ She wrote about her massage lady, who's been a single parent and refuse to give up on life. Very inspiring!

My special favorite entry is from Himy in Toronto, Canada. He wrote about Mark, The Litter Guy. Read about it in Himy's blog. To appreciate Himy, I'd like to invite him for lunch in Jakarta *grin*

A lot of people ask, what I wish for on my birthday? I want to answer it, and it's kinda easy to predict hehe. Well, I want a life partner, a mature man, who can commit to love me in goods and bads and ready to receive much love from me.

I hope it's not too much to ask.

Echelon 2011

After judging Echelon Satellite Event in Jakarta, I've got a chance to visit Echelon 2011 event in Singapore with 5 of my #StartupLokal buddies.

Startup scene is currently very vibrant in Indonesia, and of course as founder of several startups like NulisBuku.com and organizer for one of the biggest startup communities in Indonesia, #StartupLokal, I'm really excited to attend Echelon 2011.

Echelon 2011 is a 2 days startup event organized by e27 at National University of Singapore's University Cultural Central (UCC). Aside from remarkable talkshows, pitching sessions (there are 3 Indonesian startups in the Startup Launchpad, they are Bouncity, SixReps and Price Area) and seminars, it's the networking session that hold a very important part in the event.

Met a lot of startup geeks founders from all over the world (especially South East Asia),  my friends startup founders from Founder Institute Singapore (it's like a reunion!) and of course bunch of new friends, founders & investors, that I learned so much from.

Kal & Rico here met me after series of twitting & mentioning back and forth during the conference, finding each other at the venue :D Keep in touch, guys!

At a dinner with friends, I met a very young investor that turned out to share the same passion with me in books. I felt so in-sync and feel his burning passion for building startup. He said, "My offline business is just a business, but that's not my true passion. If someone said his passion is in oil or something, then that's weird."  Well… I must conclude that we, generation Z, are now in passion era where everybody is pursuing their passion.

On the other hand, at Echelon 2011 After Party, I met a very nice senior investor who has invested in a groupon clone site but his main business are all offline stuff. I remembered about what the young investor said to me, and then I asked the question to the senior investor, "I know all the mining, etc is your business, but what is your true passion?" And he said, "What do you mean? I'm an entrepreneur… all these are my passions…." Hmm… his work is already become his passion. Good for you, uncle!

About the pitching session, PlayMoolah, an online platform to educate kids about financial, WIN Echelon 2011 Startup Launchpad. Min Xuan Lee, co-founder of PlayMoolah, did a great job presenting PayMoolah in front of judges. She started with problem that her startup will solve, the solution the startup offers and most important thing: business models. How the startup will make money. All clear and to the point in her 5 minutes presentation. Great job!

To e27 team, congratulations guys, you did excellent job throwing the event. @Joonian, Kathia, and friends… thank you for having us!

After the conference, me and friends decided to spend leisure time in Singapore: watching movies -_-" (Yeah, that absurd whatever policy in our country make us can't watch box office Hollywood movies)

And of course, can't missed Universal Studio Singapore! Me, @nataliardianto, @nuniek, @SaGad, @bayu99, Joshua Kevin @oleeoebiand our friend @shirleydailyreally had so much fun together :))

While we were in Singapore, we got good news from friends in Indonesia. They informed that #StartupLokal made it to the first page of printed edition of Kompas, the most influential and widest spread National newspaper in Indonesia :D Yay!

Now, we're back to Jakarta and ready to act on several plans of #StartupLokal. One of them, preparing for Project Eden pitching session at Biz Connect PPKI July 9th, 2011. Get ready, creative people!

The Quest of #IndonesiaJujur

"Always speak the truth, even if it is bitter." (Baihaqi)

And this is not the shocking news. Wow… I can't believe what I read. Speechless.

@bincangedukasi show some concerns about this matter and want us to spread the word. If you really care about the future of our nation, please create your own post of #IndonesiaJujur to support this cause.

We want the best for these children, right?

Let's be honest, starting with ourself.

Bagaimana caranya menuju sukses? Yang pertama, you have to have a purpose. Apa yang memotivasimu melakukan ini semua. Also define, visi kamu apa. You have to know that first.

Saya kemudian mendengar tentang Indosat Mobile. Lovely!

Paket Indosat Mobile:

Paket
Harian
Mingguan
Bulanan

Harga Paket
Rp 2,000
Rp 12,000
Rp 50,000

Telepon ke sesama Indosat
150 menit
200 menit
1.000 menit

Telepon ke operator lain
-
20 menit
100 menit

SMS
150
200
1.000

Data
1 MB
6 MB
30 MB

Keterangan: Pemakaian paket berlaku mulai pukul 05.00 – 17.00

A Day with Saphia

I have this photo blog called Jakarta Daily Photo and I have a lot of foreigners appreciating the blog because it shows the beauty side of Jakarta. One of the comment I got is from Saphia, a French girl who's coming visiting Jakarta for work related and would spend months here.

We met at National museum (along with her friends and also my new friends) and it's my first time there. Local Jakartan don't really come to museums hehe.

Then we went to eat some Indonesian food. While eating her too-spicy-according-to-her nasi cobek, I learned that Saphia really grateful she could eat a halal Burger King in Jakarta. It's the first time she ever eat Burger King. I was like… Wow… I never think of that. It could be a good travel campaign: come and eat halal fast food! :D

Then because Saphia wanted to walk, we went to Monas park. Maybe the only decent place to walk in Jakarta. No proper pedestrian whatsoever here and it frustrate her :))

So we walked and cycling around the monument. It's super fun!

Then we heard adzan and Saphia said she never heard it in France. And I feel like I've been taking everything for granted. In France it's difficult to be Muslim, she said. Not a lot of halal food, hard to wear hijab if you want to work in offices, you're fined if you wear niqab, no public places to pray etc. "Life is easier for you!" She said in her French way to emphasize her point. I said, "We have different challenges."

Indeed.

We go to Masjid Istiqlal, the biggest mosque in SouthEast Asia (so they say), also my first time here (pity me) and we spend time there for prayers. Here I just realized that in Mekkah or Madinah, I never get to see Imam because we're way behind. In here, I'm praying at front row!

I'm enjoying my time with her, train my ear for French words, and happy to see Jakarta from other point of view.

We agree on 2 things about Jakarta: traffic is horrible and why the city don't have some sort of MRT.

Well, this time I can't say a thing and prefer to sip my iced lychee tea.

Kalau kamu belum punya akun Multiply, melalui halaman depan Multiply.com klik di bagian atas Open Your Own Shop
