Where do Power and Control Come From?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

The only real power and control we have is internal.

All of the external expressions of power and control are never ours.  They belong only to those who are wielding them, and will only continue to exist as long as people accept their own lack of them.

Power and ControlYes, when we go to the voting booth, we are choosing people to “represent” us.  Some take that responsibility to heart, and work to genuinely be representative.  Unfortunately, many become corrupted by this power, and because we live in a fear-based society of lack and scarcity, they cling to it with all their might.  Because they think there is not enough to go around, they hoard and withhold and disempower, because that is what they believe it takes for them to keep power and control.

You and I, however, have all the power and control we need.  But we have to recognize it, and choose to employ it.  We need to decide that we prefer to be empowered rather than disempowered, and from that place take actions to better our lot in this life.

Consciousness creates reality.  When you focus on negativity, and the dark-side of the world, you draw more of that to you.  But when you focus on positivity, and the potential and positivity of the world, you draw that to you.  I know which one I would rather have more of.

Power and control only work when we choose to use them.  All of the power and control wielded by anyone over another is because the other is allowing it, and not resisting.

Yes, I recognize that in certain circumstances this is not an option.  But more often than we acknowledge, it really is.

Be the power and control you seek

We tend to look outside ourselves for sources of power.  I can write endlessly about empowerment, conscious reality creation, and manifestation.  You, however, can choose to use these ideas…or not.  The power and control belong to you and you alone.

Not everything I suggest is going to work for everyone.  But that’s a part of human nature.  Further, I acknowledge that I am imperfect, and do not always practice what I preach.  But it is a practice, and I do strive to empower my own power and control, because I desire to make this life the best I can for me.

Power and ControlThis is not an act of selfishness or in disregard of anyone else.  This is a matter of seeing the abundance of the universe, rather than lack and scarcity.  There is more than enough good to go around.  Power and control are abundant…but the genuine articles are purely individualized.  They cannot be created or derived from things without; they only really come from within.

There are some big, overwhelming problems in the world today.  We need to work together in order to combat them, and build better for everyone.  But unless we see the power and control we have internally, and work from there, we cannot do enough to impact the external world in a positive way.

Empower yourself.  Recognize that you are awesome, amazing, powerful, worthy and deserving.  Take the power, take the control, and do not be afraid to change your own life for the better.  You take nothing away from anyone else in doing this…and when you are empowered, you can share that with those around you.  The positive energies we create can help overcome the negative.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.

Knowing that true power and control come from within each and every one of us, individually, we can work to create a better world.  When we cease to allow others to wield false power and control over us, and use that which is within ourselves to drive our lives, ultimately we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we become more aware and mindful, and tend to spread that feeling to others around us. As such, we can build more positive feelings.

We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we eradicate negative feelings, we open up space to let in more positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.

Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  An attitude of gratitude is a positive attitude that begets even more good energies, and that is always worthwhile.

How Do We Make 2019 Amazing?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

This New Year has the potential to be amazing.  All we have to do is to make it so.

It starts with ourselves.

This is not an act of selfishness.  I repeat, THIS IS NOT SELFISH.  Self-awareness and self-care are all-too-often taken for granted, or outright ignored.  But not caring for ourselves or being aware of our thoughts, feelings, and actions disempowers our ability to create.  When we cannot create, we really can’t give because we have nothing available TO give.

Amazing 2019So what does this all have to do with making 2019 amazing?  To do anything for anyone, on any scale, it all begins with the self.  In order to change the world, we have to begin by changing ourselves.

A lot of people had a seriously difficult time with 2018.  It was a year of challenges, loss, struggle, and difficulties.  On the grand scale, we are still working with some pretty messed up stuff.

But with the new year we have a new opportunity to do things that will get the year started right.  We can choose to see all the possibility and potential the new year represents, and take actions that will help drive it towards the places we desire to go.

How do we make the New Year amazing?

Consciousness creates reality.  When we work to be aware and mindful of our thoughts, feelings, and actions, we can make choices that will draw more good to us.  Like attracts like, so if we decide that this year can and will be amazing, then it will.  If we so choose. So, here are ten things we can do to help guide this new year towards all its amazing potential.

Be Aware. Consciousness creates reality, but it always works best when we are conscious.  As such, we need to be aware of what we are thinking, how we are feeling, and actions that we take from there.  Ask questions like What am I thinking? How am I feeling? and What am I doing?  These questions bring you to the now, which opens you to being conscious and aware of what is going on both within and around you.
Be mindful of what you say. Words matter.  What you say will impact your day, and if you are not careful words can hijack your thoughts and feelings.  When you are aware of whether your words are helpful or hurtful, empowering or disempowering, you can choose better for creating better.
Be mindful of what you post. I follow a lot of people via social media.  It is super-easy to post memes and other things that make you feel negative.  Be aware of whether what you are putting out there is feeding fear, lack, and scarcity, or appreciation and abundance.
Be mindful of what you do. There are often things we do by rote that we don’t give much thought to.  Cursing out bad drivers on the road; paying no attention to people walking around you in the grocery store; being indifferent or even rude to cashiers and wait staff are actions we can change.  Being aware of how you would want others to handle you, be mindful of what you are doing with others.
Cut back on sources of negativity. We live in a fear-based society overflowing with messages of lack and scarcity.  Spend any time on Facebook, Twitter, or G+, and you will certainly come across memes and stories that will make you feel bad, get you angry, frustrate and disempower you.  When you are aware of these, you can decide how much or how little to engage with them.  I understand needing to be informed, but being overwhelmed doesn’t do any of us any good.
Express gratitude. This is not just saying thank you, it is imperative that we FEEL grateful.  Gratitude is one of the fundamental building blocks necessary for creating an amazing year.  When you are grateful, you draw more to yourself to be grateful for.
Laugh and smile daily. We all have things we need to do.  Some days are easier than others, and some feel as though they will never end.  But taking a moment EVERY SINGLE DAY to smile and laugh is hugely empowering.  Laughter feels good, as does smiling.  Take a conscious action to find something every single day that will make you laugh and smile.
Be kind to yourself. It’s important to be kind to yourself.  When you make a mistake, fail at a plan, get something wrong, or cause somebody unintentional hurt, don’t berate yourself for it.  It is so very easy to be unkind to ourselves in light of things, but it is so much more empowering to give ourselves kindness instead.
Create stillness every day. Meditation doesn’t need to be a lengthy process, but it is a great way to get ahold of the squirrels in your brain and stop them from running around.  Further, you don’t need to meditate; take a minimum of five minutes every day to just be still.  Listen to soothing music, a waterfall, nature, or silence.    Focus on your breath, and allow yourself that time to just be, no responsibilities, no expectations, in the moment.
Be genuine. Don’t be who you think anybody else expects you to be.  Be yourself.  If you are good to yourself, true to yourself, and genuine, you are more capable of mindfulness and creating amazing things.  Be aware of what follows I AM , because those two words can create things that are amazing or things that are distressing.

Choose the amazing

The ten suggestions I make above might seem a bit daunting.  These are not things that are particularly difficult, per se, but the number may be overwhelming.  Why not break it down and do it in parts?  Choose to do one thing today, two things tomorrow…or stretch it out further.

Do one thing daily for a week…then two things next week, three things the following week and so on.  None of these are meant to be difficult or complicated, they are ideas to help build better practices for better habits.  From better habits, we can do things that will make this year amazing…and carry it beyond that.

Yes, it is only a number.  Time may be an illusion, but society sill tends to measure it with a certain degree of precision.  The mark of the new year is frequently used to create resolutions for change.

I have stated for a number of years that I find resolutions to be far too flimsy.  Hence, I began to work on taking New Years Actions instead.  One of those actions began my journey to blogging weekly seven years ago.

The important thing here is that you can choose to make this new year amazing, or just another date in the calendar.  This New Year has the potential to be amazing.  What will you do to make it so?

This is the three-hundred sixty-sixth entry in my series. Is Life Black and White?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

Life is not just black and white.

Our lives are not lived in the extremes of either/or.  Life is lived in the greys and colors between the black and white of the extremes.

Black and WhiteSociety wants us to use these extremes because they appear easy to relate to.  Black and white, fat and thin, short and tall, rich and poor, and so forth.  These absolutes feel as if they are simpler than that which falls between them.

Yet the vast majority of our world falls between extremes.  People are far more complex than the polar opposite absolutes that we often employ to define the world we live in.

So why do we think the extremes are so important?  I suspect that this is because it is far easier to understand them.  The black and white of good versus evil, chaos versus order, love versus hate, and fear versus courage are easier to comprehend than the ambiguous spaces between them.

Because we live in a fear-based society, where those in power frequently strive to disempower us, it is super-important that we recognize what we can control.

Simply, we can control what we think, how we feel, and how we act.  That’s the entire list.

It may not seem like much, but those three things can consciously create reality.  When we take control of our thoughts, recognize and work on how we are feeling, and intentionally act based on that, we empower ourselves.  When we are empowered, we can better ignore the black and white extremes presented to us, and live between them.

Recognizing that the extremes are drastic, we can better work on ourselves to simply be.  Working on our own lives is not selfish, because it provides us with more to give.

The absolutes of black and white are exaggerated

When we recognize this for the fact that it is, we can more easily embrace the colors and greys between the absolutes.  All too frequently these polar opposites are used to divide us further; but we can choose to ignore them.  We can choose to empower ourselves to be the best selves we can be.

Life black and whiteWhen we are mindful and aware of ourselves, we do not become selfish.  In fact, we become stronger, better able to see bias and the extremes.  From there we can work to be more for ourselves, which then opens us up to be able to give more of ourselves.  This opens us to more sympathy, kindness, empathy, and doing better things for ourselves and those around us.

But this is a choice.  We need to choose to reject the black and white extremes, and embrace the ambiguities between them.  It is up to each of us to recognize the fallacies of these polar opposites, reject them, and embrace the differences between us, rather than further the divides that they create.  In this way, you and I can better not only ourselves, but the world in which we live.

New Year, new choices, new opportunities.  What amazing options do you want to experience in this time of rejuvenation and renewal?

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.

Knowing that the black and white opposites are excessive, unrealistic ideas for how people live, we can choose to disregard them and embrace the mysterious and unexpected that most of us truly live.  When we stop trying to live by these extremes, and embrace the broader possibilities between them, we become open to more kindness, empathy, joy; as such, ultimately we empower ourselves.

How Am I a Puzzle Piece?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

We are all a puzzle piece in this world.  We all fit together…but not always one with the other.

Every single one of us is connected.  We all come from the same source, the same oversoul, or if you prefer, God/Goddess, Powers-that-be, etc.  As such, we are all one, or at least all part of the greater whole.

Each of us is a puzzle piece that makes up the big picture of the world.

Puzzle pieceLike any puzzle, only certain pieces fit to other pieces.  One puzzle piece is on this side of the picture, another on the far side, and some are middles while others are edges.  Each is a different size, shape, color, and so forth.

Though each is individual, when we interlock them, we get a whole picture.  Each individual piece comes together, no matter how they differ, to form a unique whole.

Even though we are each different, because we are part of the greater whole, we are all the same.  When you strip away the flesh and the nationality and the religion and the gender, the stuff beneath is going to be the same.  Deeper than that, our souls are made of the same intangible stuff.

We frequently talk about how we differ.  Some use the differences between us to divide us, employing fear and lack and scarcity to pull us apart.

There are a limited number of options we can use for this on the grand scale of things.  But each and every one of us, as an individual, is empowered to work with this.  We get to choose what differences we see, and how they affect how we will interact with the people we encounter.

This is not just about our differences.

Every puzzle piece tries to fit with another

We have our families, our friends, the communities we form, and no matter how introverted we might be, it is human nature to seek connection.  When we make those connections, they will forms new groupings, and each of these groupings may or may not interconnect with one another.  As such, even when you put more than one puzzle piece together, those larger pieces may still not fit with one another.

And that’s ok.  We form communities based on likes and dislikes, dreams and aspirations, ways of thinking, beliefs, and all sorts of various artifices.  Yes, artifices, because the vast majority of how we see differences is artificial, and not an actual difference.  Remember, each is a puzzle piece that fits together to build the bigger, complete picture.

Yet no matter how much we acknowledge this, we are still going to have our differences.  Some greater, some lesser.  How we think, how we see the world, how we see ourselves impacts the packs we form.  Each pack, however we label them, will build together…but also destroy together.

Because we are living in a fear-based society, rather than teaching acceptance of our differences, instead we explore how much further the ways in which we differ can pull us apart.  We make them black and white, polar opposites, so that we can more easily explain us versus them and the like.

It’s far easier to choose an either/or than to have multiple options.  Left or right, up or down, Republican or Democrat, man or woman…either/or suppositions.

But there is almost always more than just the either/or, and rather than encourage that, we tend to fear it.

You and I have the option to change this.

It starts with the self

All change starts small.  It begins with each of us individually.  But we have to desire it, decide upon it, and choose to do it.

First, we need to recognize that each of us is a puzzle piece.  No matter how well we know that we fit into any given portion of the puzzle, there are still more pieces out there, many of which we will never fit together with.  And that is ok.

How we think about ourselves matters.  What I say about me makes an impression in my subconscious, often more powerful than what anybody else might say.

Consciousness creates reality.  When we take our thoughts, empower them with feelings, and move with intentional actions, we create our lives.  If we ignore the self, we do not leave enough fuel to do much of anything for anyone else, either.

And that is another place where we each can do better with changing the world.  I have been working for a while now on thinking and speaking better about myself.  Self-talk winds up burrowing into our subconscious, and if we are not nice to ourselves, we can sabotage our conscious efforts.  And no, this is not saying I am amazing or super-intelligent or anything grandiose and over-the-top…it is about not kicking myself when I screw up, or calling myself a dumbass or an idiot and the like.

I am me, and I am an individual.  However, I am also just a puzzle piece among a multitude.  While I am working on thinking and speaking better of myself, it also occurs to me I need to be better about how I speak and think about others.

Remember that words matter

Words matter.  It’s easy to forget that, especially when we are a puzzle piece that has merged with others to form our community…and we begin to discuss others.

People like to talk about people.  I think that is a basic part of human nature.  However, we sometimes get off track, and talk turns to gossip, comparison, competition, and judgment.

Most of this is not meant in any way to be malicious.  Yet I am surprised to find how often my conversations, when they turn to other people, head down this path.  I would not be happy to have anyone else talking about me in this manner…so maybe I should consider that before I talk about them.

We are all a puzzle piece in this world.  We all fit together…but not always one with the other.  When we consider what this means and how this can impact each and every one of us, we can use this knowledge to improve ourselves, and with that empowerment improve others around us.

Where does your life’s puzzle piece fit into your world?

Can Logic and Emotion Coexist?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

Logic and emotion can coexist, but it is often in a form of détente.

Logic and emotion are another term for thought and feeling, two of the necessary ingredients for conscious reality creation.  In order to manifest anything we desire in this life, we need to begin it with thought, empower it with emotion, and then get it moving with intentional action.

For many people, though, logic and emotion tend to conflict

Logic and EmotionThe Vulcans in Star Trek were so distressed by the surreal power of emotion that their whole culture eschewed it for logic.  Despite the fact that they possessed emotions like the other sentient beings of the galaxy, they still strove to repress them, focusing wholly on logic.

Why?  Because emotion is not rational, cannot be easily directed and controlled, and tends to override reason.

Yes, each and every one of us is capable of controlling our emotions; however, it takes practice and effort to do so.

Things happen outside of ourselves that evoke an emotional response.  That initial response can often be tempered, but it cannot be controlled.  You will be made angry, spiteful, joyful, loving, hateful, ecstatic, and enraged by experiences with the world around you.  We feel what we feel in that moment, each differently because each of us experiences emotions differently.

How long you hold onto a given emotion, however, is wholly in your control.  Resentment and jealousy, for example, are built entirely internally.  We choose to create and hold onto them.

It is for this reason that many prefer cold, hard, logic to unpredictable emotion.  Except, as evidenced by our modern society, even logic can be skewed.

Logic and emotion getting mixed

The shape of the earth.  Vaccinations.  Global warming.  Equal rights.  Facts and logic on these topics, for some, do not matter.  They allow their emotional belief to overcome facts and logic, and all of a sudden we’re debating topics that have a logical, factual base in a completely emotional way.

Ergo, emotion overcomes logic.  Despite the efforts of many to use logic to overcome emotion, it’s an ongoing debate, and the cause of much conflict.

Logic and Emotion CoexistWe cannot help anyone but ourselves to create harmony between logic and emotion.  My head and my heart can be brought into alignment, but I only have the power to do so for myself.  I can use logic and emotion to drive my intentional actions, so that I can manifest the life I most desire.

Positivity comes of being an example for others.  And let’s face it, we all know people who are both good and bad examples out there.  You and I get to choose which we wish to be, but we can only choose for ourselves.  When we focus on our own thoughts, feelings, and actions we can do right by ourselves.

Perhaps, when we choose to do so with positivity, we can be that good example others can take encouragement from.  In this way, we are all empowered to work to change the world for the better.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.

Knowing that we can get our own logic and emotion to coexist, we can work to be a good example for others.  When we focus on our own desires, and work on our individual conscious reality creation to manifest better lives, ultimately we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we frequently spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.

When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive energies, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

What is Impatience?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

I know I am not alone when it comes to working through impatience.

Patience has never been my strong suit.  I do not like to wait, in particular when it comes to anything I deeply desire.

Time may be an illusion, but that doesn’t mean that you can go completely without patience.

ImpatienceImpatience comes particularly easily to our society, too.  Our quick-fix, instant-gratification society simply has no room for patience.  We desire it all, and we desire it all RIGHT NOW.  If I can make a call to the other side of the planet, how come I can’t travel a mile on the highway in less than a minute?

Impatience can be more than just a nuisance, however.  Impatience, I believe, is just another manifestation of fear.

Let’s take a favorite Star War quote from Yoda, shall we?  “Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”  Replace fear with impatience, and the sentence still tracks rather well.

When we become impatient, we often get angry.  What am I still waiting for?  Waiting just irks me!  Then the anger turns to hate.  I hate waiting on this, that or the other thing!  From there, hate tends to lead to suffering.  I got sick of waiting, so I pulled onto the shoulder…and got a ticket…or into an accident…and thus the payoff was something I did not desire.

Why do we have impatience?

I believe that we become impatient because we are afraid that the thing we anticipate may not come to us.  Whether it is an every-day matter, like getting from point ‘a’ to point ‘b’ in a timely fashion, or getting to work on time, or checking out at the grocery store; or a more significant matter, like waiting to hear back from a job interview, for test results, or the acceptance of an offer on a home – we do not desire for it to fail.

Because of our tendency to constantly wonder “what if?” we frequently head down a dark path.  What if it does not go as we desire, and we are late to work, stuck in the check-out line past the time we need to get the kids from school, or we get a negative test result…what will happen?  When we “what if” ourselves too much, we tend to get anxious, which is also rooted in fear…and that makes us impatient.

Fear is something that takes any number of shapes, and is constantly all around us.  This is because we find ourselves living in a fear-based society.

What does living in a fear-based society mean?

As a society, we tend to react fearfully to the unknown.  For example, when someone tells us they are about to take a leap of faith.  Rather than congratulate and encourage them, we instead tend to warn and caution them.  When someone does not follow societal norms, we worry about them, rather than cheer them.

What’s more, many of our so-called leaders use fear to disempower us.  They emphasize our differences, and play upon our fears of loss and suffering with lack and scarcity.  Illegal aliens are taking your jobs; gays are taking away the legitimacy of marriages, and similar bullshit to disempower and scare you into following them.

Further, our fear-based society drives impatience.  Because fear of lack and scarcity and running out is so flooded into us, it’s difficult not to buy into it.  Because we do, we believe that things will run out, whether tangible or intangible.

There is not enough time; money; jobs; resources…does it matter?  Feel familiar?  Because we are so bombarded by this idea, it becomes second nature, and feeds our impatience.  We accept this as our reality, and so we also accept that which we fear to drive us to be impatient.

How can we lessen impatience?

Of course, what we most want is a quick-fix, instant gratification idea.  The first thing we need to accept is this:

TIME IS AN ILLUSION

Every single one of us perceives time uniquely.  This is why sometimes you feel each second with excruciating clarity; or before you know it, the sun is setting hours after you began a project.  The clock is but a means of measurement, and not the truth of time.

As such, it may be easy to lessen impatience, or it may take “time” to be more patient.

The following may also help alleviate impatience:

Meditation: Really?  Doesn’t that take time?  Yes and no.  Meditation in practice is taking time, as little or as much as you care to use, in order to commune with your higher self, to focus on your breathing and release your mind.  I find that the daily practice of meditation is very calming, and more calm builds more patience.  So, really, this can help to lessen impatience.

Practice mindfulness: Along the same line, being more aware of the here-and-now, and what you are thinking and feeling in the moment, will lessen impatience.  When you know what you are thinking and feeling, you can recognize that you are feeling or acting impatient.  As such, you can do something to change that.

Take a break: Step back.  Stop what you are doing.  Change course.  In diverting yourself, you open yourself up to identifying and stepping back from being impatient.

Impatience happens

You will note I never state that we can remove impatience, only lessen it.  Yes, you can develop more patience and be more understanding of the nature of impatience, but it is not something that we can be rid of in totality.

Also important to note, I never wrote that impatience is bad.  But because it is a part of fear, it tends to be a negative.  Consciousness creates reality.  When you feel impatient, you tend to draw more things to you that will add to your impatience.  Hence why lessening a tendency to be impatient is a good idea.

What do you do to work through impatience?

Are You Good to Yourself?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

You are the only you that there is.  Be good to yourself.

Too many of us get caught up in the world around us, and as such tend to neglect ourselves.  We are concerned for our coworkers, friends, family, and loved ones long before we are concerned for ourselves.

Are you good to yourself?

The irony of this is that when you are good to yourself, you are more capable of being good to others.

Because of the many mixed messages of our world, it is all too easy to misunderstand the line between selfishness and selflessness.  Doing for ourselves, we are told, is selfish, because we should be putting others first.

However, what we neglect is that we need to care for ourselves before we can care for anyone else.

We tend to ignore self-care.  We do not do enough things to treat our minds, body and spirit to the best we deserve, and we allow ourselves to get out-of-shape, physically, mentally and emotionally.  When you do not be good to yourself, you actually lessen the ability to be good to and do good for others.

Five simple ways you can be good to yourself

Here are five ways that you can be good to yourself, with very little effort.

Think good thoughts of yourself. When you follow I AM with negatives, this reinforces ways that you are being less than good to yourself.  Think good thoughts, like I am strong, empowered, a good person, abundant, and so forth.
Take time for yourself. Read a book.    Play a game.  This does not require a lot of time, but a few minutes every day to do something purely for yourself is a necessary action for recharging and refreshing the mind, body and spirit.
Eat well/exercise. I am not advocating for a radical diet or a huge shift in exercise routine.  What I am suggesting here is that you eat only when hungry, and eat things that make you feel good – whether it’s raw veggies or a bacon cheeseburger.  Get up, move around, stretch periodically to get the blood flowing and relieve tensions.
Learn something new. We are constantly evolving, constantly growing and shifting and changing.  Actively seeking to learn something new, be it grand or minute, expands the mind and further empowers you.
Smile and laugh. Find something every single day that makes you smile and laugh.  Laughter opens you up to positivity, and feeling your best.  Laughing and smiling express joy, and joy opens us up to more good for all around.

None of these ideas require vast amounts of time or energy, but practicing them actively, every day, can make a huge difference in your ability to be good to yourself and be good to others.

Be good to yourself in the now

Good to yourselfRight here, right now is the only reality that is true.  Past is often colored by nostalgia and hindsight analysis, and the future is open and full of potential and possibility. In this moment, consciousness creates reality, and you are you.  Be good to yourself, because you are the only you that there is, and this moment is your reality.

It is not selfish, and it can open you up to all kinds of opportunities.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.

Knowing that when you are good to yourself you take nothing away from anyone else, you can take actions to treat yourself well.  When we are good to ourselves, we give ourselves more tools to be good to others, and ultimately we empower ourselves.

Do You Know How Bright You Shine?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

Do you deny how bright you shine?

As Marianne Williamson posits in her work Our Deepest Fear, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

In a later paragraph, she writes, “Your playing small / Does not serve the world.” Her concluding paragraph begins, “And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

How Bright You ShineIf you are unfamiliar with this work, I strongly advise you to find it and read it.  The reminder that we are, each and every one of us, capable of shining impossibly bright, is good to recall.

How bright you shine is partly dependent on the things that light you up, so to speak…but also on the energy and intent we give to the things that empower us and bring us joy.

Remember, at our core, we are all energy.  We are all made of the same stuff as the stars, and energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it just transmutes its form.  All of us shine; how bright our shine is depends on the frequency at which our energy vibrates.

When we feel good and work with positivity, our frequency and vibration is high.  When we feel bad and work with negativity, our frequency and vibration is low.

Simply put, frequencies can be equated to lightbulbs.  A 40-watt bulb shines less brightly than a 100-watt bulb does.

When we work with conscious reality creation, we tend to become those three-way adjustable bulbs.  We are choosing how brightly we care to shine, striving to show the world who we are and what we are capable of doing.

How bright you shine is your choice

Often, we find ourselves being influenced by the world around us.  Some of these influences are far beyond our control.  World affairs, governmental action and inaction, economics, and politics are things we have little to no control over, but which can drive us pretty crazy, for example.  They might depress, enrage, sadden or otherwise cause you negative feelings, but there is a very limited number of things you can do about it.

Some of these influences are still outside of ourselves, but slightly less beyond our control.  Teachers, friends, lovers, coworkers and family, for example.  They might tell you things “for your own good” and with the best of intentions…but in doing so, could be denying how bright you shine.

What’s important is to be the you that you are.  Be who you are, not who you think people desire for you to be.

This can be particularly challenging for a lot of us.  If you have depression, or believe that you are unworthy or undeserving, then shining brightly can be really difficult.  When the squirrels in your brain always seem to get the better of you, this adds another layer of complexity.

It is also important to keep in mind that being your best and brightest-shining self is in no way selfish.  Why?  Because being the best you that you can be takes nothing away from anyone else.  You being amazing and awesome and seeing just how bright you shine doesn’t deny anyone else the ability to do the same.

When we deny ourselves and the world all that we are capable of, it helps nobody.  Further, it disallows us to give all we most desire to give.  When we are not at our best, we limit ourselves.

How bright you shine won’t blind anyone else

My own fear of success has been equal to my fear of failure.  Both, however, tie to the deeper-rooted fear of abandonment.  This fear, that nobody will have any desire to have me in their lives and that I will be utterly alone, has been far too dominant in my life.

This is not me placing blame on anyone, but as a child I had very few friends.  I believe that this fear is why, in my early teens, when I finally developed a circle of friends, I dimmed my own brightness, because I feared outshining them might offend, and drive them off.  I let my academics drop a notch, because I cared more about having these friends, and what I believed I needed to do to keep them.

Despite recognizing this for what it is now, it still affects me.  As such, I still very much temper how bright I shine.  It occurs to me that this, in turn, has played a large part in the acts of self-sabotage I’ve performed throughout the years, too.

Consciousness creates reality.  Our lives, as such, are made manifest by the thoughts, feelings and actions that we put into them.  When we are shining our brightest, transmitting at the highest vibrational frequencies, we are capable of creating truly amazing things.

Each of us has nearly unlimited power.  We can shine so, so brightly – when we let ourselves.  Denying the world the most you that you can be comes from a place of lack and scarcity, and the notion that you being super-bright takes away from someone else doing so.

However, we live in an abundant universe.  In truth, the brighter we shine, the more we get to help others find their light, too.

What Do I Bring to The Universe?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

What do I bring to the Universe?  This is a question I know a lot of people ask.  The answer, however, is simple.

You.

You are the one and only you that there is, and I am here to tell you that this is a great thing.  Yes, you are amazing, and what you bring to the Universe are your unique, incredible gifts, and the youness that is you.

What Do I Bring

I know that for a lot of us, this seems like a lie.  We have issues with our own worth and value.  It gets all too easy to believe that we do not matter, and there is little to nothing that we bring to anyone.  Well, that’s simply untrue.

Each and every single one of us brings value to the Universe at large.  We impact and influence people in ways we hardly even realize, because we are all creators in the world around us.  The positivity that comes from this knowledge is veritably immeasurable.

I know that you have bad days.  Believe me, I am totally familiar with feeling worthless, hopeless, and that I am just a drag on the people around me.  What do I bring to this world?  I believe that I bring ideas for recognizing everyone for their potential and possibility in this life.  It is my hope that when I share my ideas for positivity and consciously creating reality, they inspire you to seek out all that you desire for your existence, too.

Consciousness creates reality.  Like attracts like.  We are amazing, empowered, powerful beings, and we have value and worth and deserve all that we dream to live rich, full, exceptional lives.  Each of us brings something awesome to the world.

What do I bring, and how do I know anybody cares?

Right here, right now, you are.  What you bring to the world are your talents, gifts, insights, experiences, and huge positivity that your presence adds to the Universe.  The measure of whether or not anybody cares is irrelevant.

We stake too much of our worth on the opinions of others.  There is nothing wrong with wanting to be acknowledged, recognized, rewarded, and generally well regarded.  When we feel we are worthy and deserving of an outside recognition, be it a raise, a promotion, a reward, a kind word, or what-have-you, we feel less if it does not come.  We feel unworthy, since others have not recognized us.

What Do I Bring?

Yes, it hurts.  It feels like you are undervalued, unworthy, undeserving.  Feeling this way is normal.  However, holding onto that feeling, and allowing it to take root and be judge, jury, and executioner of your reality tends to deny what you bring to the Universe.

You are worthy and deserving of being the most amazing you that you can be.  With or without outside recognition, see the positivity in just being, and all the gifts you give by being you.

I, for one, am very happy that you are here.  Thank you for being.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.

Knowing that the answer to the question of what do I bring to the Universe is ME, I can work to develop and share my gifts to create more positivity.  When we recognized our own worth, and how much we deserve the good we desire for our lives, and that what we bring to the world around us in our very being is incredible, ultimately we empower ourselves.

How Does Self-Motivation Work?

This post contains affiliate banner links. For more info, see my disclosures.

Self-motivation is a particularly challenging topic.

This is something that is problematic for nearly everyone.  However, if you are dealing with depression, and/or anxiety, it can be even more difficult.

What IS self-motivation?  It is finding our own inner-resources in order to motivate ourselves to do things.  Sometimes they are big things, sometimes small.  Finding motivation generally begins with the self, though we frequently go out-of-our-way to find any other source for motivation.

Self-motivationWhy?  Part of this, I believe, is due to our overall societal lack of accountability.  I mean, let’s face it, NOBODY wants to be accountable for anything…it is far easier to blame.  We see this at every single level of our modern society.  I didn’t do it, I blame ‘x’.

Another part, I believe, is that we tend to look outside of ourselves, before we look within.  There is a real lack of awareness among people, in addition to self-knowledge.  Part of this comes from actions on the part of our so-called “leaders” to disempower us; part is from our own lack of self-worth.  As such, we become over-reliant on other resources, from teachers and books to friends and faith.

Please note, I am in no way devaluing teachers, books, friends and faith.  Each has a place, and can be an outstanding resource for gaining knowledge and information.  However, ignoring our own self-motivation in favor of these outside influences can be a real slippery slope.  Why?  Because real motivation comes from within, not from without.

Self-motivation is not selfish

All too often, we associate anything with the self and apply it to the notion of selfishness.  We get so many mixed messages about this that or the other thing being selfish, we wind up neglecting the self. We do this out of fear that our actions might come across as selfish.

Putting ourselves first is NOT selfish.  Selfishness only occurs when an action we perform denies somebody abundance and prosperity.  Taking two slices of pizza when there is only one for everybody; not telling somebody about a perfect job for them at your workplace because you fear they might show you up; offering an unwanted opinion because you are absolutely certain you know better than someone – these are examples of selfishness.

Resting, eating healthy, thinking, feeling and acting to better your life is not selfish.  Along this same line, self-motivation is not a selfish act.

What IS self-motivation?

Self-motivation is making a way to do something.  This can be applied to nearly anything you can think of.  It might be getting out of bed in the morning; cooking dinner; writing; and so on.  This is the process of finding or creating the motivation to get things done.

Consciousness creates reality.  EVERYTHING in the universe falls into this.  We are uniquely capable of thinking of something, feeling it out, then taking an intentional action to manifest it into being.

Thought is arguably the easiest part of this process.  Everybody has a plethora of thoughts every day.  Thoughts become things…but not out of a vacuum.  The thoughts are nothing but empty ideas until feeling powers them, and action drives them.

To move a thought into being, we often need motivation.  We all have rough days, we all face challenges and obstacles.  When these make matters particularly difficult, we may need to find some self-motivation to move forward.

I am often searching for this myself.  It can be pretty daunting, because something that works for my motivation today might not work tomorrow.  Like having tools to combat depression, having some self-motivators can be extremely useful.

Self-motivation tools

Through my own experiences, here are a few self-motivational tools:

Habits. We all have habitual things that we do.   Establishing certain habits can be self-motivating tools.  For example, daily meditation, writing a certain number of words a day, or any established routine can be a habit.  These are an excellent source of self-motivation.

To-Do Lists.  I am not a list-maker myself, but I should be.  Creating a list of things you need to do can go a long way towards motivating yourself to make things happen.

Ask Questions.  Stopping to ask questions is an excellent way to motivate yourself to get on track, in especial if you are not.  Questions tend to pull us into the now, and it is from the now that we can best do just about anything.

Create Rewards.  Like training a dog, sometimes you need to have rewards for when you accomplish things.  A treat, a massage, a new toy of some sort – big or small, these can be excellent self-motivators.

Have A Motivation Buddy.  Yes, this is self-motivation, but that does not mean you need to do it alone.  Having a friend to remind you to get on it, whatever it is, is still a tool for motivating yourself.

Finally, it’s important to address this.  When you fail at motivating yourself – and you will – do NOT get down on yourself.  Don’t let it make you feel angry, depressed, worthless or otherwise negative.  We all have both good days and bad.  But we also have permission to suck, and fail at motivating ourselves.  Just take a new approach, and make another attempt.

What do you employ for self-motivation?
