Leuchtturm1917 Paper Test

I don't really doproduct reviews, but when I bought my new Leuchtturm1917 notebook I had enough requests to consider it. And why the hell not. It's my website after all. I can do what I want.

So first thing first, Leuchtturm1917 is in the process of changing their North American distribution (I found out because I emailed them), so you can't buy anything from their website right now and also as a result, many of their products are not available on Amazon. Luckily I found The Goulet Pen Compan...

What It Is

What It Is by Lynda Barry

What It Isby Lynda Barry

There isn't really a way to begin to explain this book. Lynda Barry has created something entirely unique. It exists in the purest creative space: part book, part sketchbook, part journal, part collage, part piece of art. It's unclassifiable. Either you get it or you don't. If you get it, it'll floor you.

These are my notes:

Show Your Work, Part 3

“”The cat sat on a mat” is not a story. “The cat sat on the dog’s mat” is a story.”

— John le Carré

Show Your Work! by Austin Kleon

One of the advantage of other people is what is known as transactive memory. Presented by Daniel Wegner, the theory of transactive memory states (in a very basic way) that members of groups, over time becomes memory resources for certain kinds of information. For example, you may be the person everyone in your family asks questions about computers. This allow...

Sharing & Sharing Your Interests

Think Process, Not Product

Take people behind the scenes.Showing your process allows people to establish ongoing connections

****Share Something Small Every Day
…we don’t always know what’s good and what sucks. That’s why it’s important to get things in front of others and see how they react.
Don’t say you don’t have enough time. We’re all busy but we all get 24 hours a day. People often ask me, “How do you find the time for all this?” And I answer, “I look for it.” You find time the same place y...

PISSING IN THE GAS TANK

I haven't been blogging much, as I'm sure you have noticed. But my absence has not been out of some kind of laziness, nor lack of interest, lack of initiative or nor any other mental oppression. My limited blogging is rather, in this case, a very good sign. I find these days, sitting at the typewriter, that fiction is again flowing out of me and it's flowing out with such momentum that there is little left in me which yearns to be expressed in this blog. Or, to put more simply, I'm using every...

Doing interviews on my site was an idea that he gave me about 6 months or a year ago. (Sometimes it takes time for an idea to sink in.) In honor of that and with my great pleasure, I'm starting this series of interviews with my very talented friend Colin Frangicetto.

Your description of yourself:...

You Don’t Have To Be A Genius: SHOW YOUR WORK — PART 1

Show Your Work by Austin Kleon

Show Your Work by Austin Kleon

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A GENIUS

The idea of the ‘lone genius’ is a myth (a myth in which I still live.)Consider ratherBrian Eno'sconcept of The Scenius which relies on the belief thatgreat ideas come from groups of creative people (an "ecology of talent.") As Kleon says:

…creativity is always, in some sense, a collaboration, the result of a mind connected to other minds.

The internet itselfis basically a connection of multiple sceniuses and cat photo memes...

Life by Design

Today I was listening toThe Unmistakable Creative podcast and found myself stopping what I was doing & starting to sketch somenotes. I sketch notes whenever something engages my brain. Not to say that I only watch and listen to things that I deem "engaging." Some things are just enjoyable and I listen to them relieved to just consume (Things like The Nerdist or silly things like Ancient Aliens.)

I digress.

The guest on the podcast today was Jim Bunch (who I'd never heard of.) He's essentially a...

"Can we Please just try to..."
