Blood Stories

By Douglas Light

Some of my favorite lines:

"Chicken wings and slabs of frozen tuna steak form an archipelago in the bloodthat blossoms across the tile floor."

"Love, I’ve discovered, isn’t so much a solid as it is a liquid—or maybe even a gas. It can quickly fill a space, taking it’s form. But it can just as quickly seep out"
"She aged a decade in handful of days. Our boy was her mooring. Now, the currents of grief are sweeping her away."

Oneof problems with alliteration is that most writer's don...

Time Guardian

I've talked previously in my newsletter about how I manage my time and I've even shown the little, blue owl that I stare at all day. I call him my "Time Guardian." So Today's drawing is of him.

Arthur Kicks Andy

One of my favorite books growing up was Who Wants an Old Teddy Bear? by Ginnie Hofman. So, today's drawing is an imitation of one of Ginnie's drawings from the book.

Jeremy

Also watched The Secret of N.I.M.H. tonight and was reminded of how great Dom DeLuise's Jeremy was.

The ABC's

Bought a copy of Draw Your Own Alphabets by Tony Seddon looking for some fonts to spice up my daily notebook. Lettering doesn't get credit for the difficulty it actually requires. Rulers are no fun so practice is required.

Pain Killers

by Jerry Stahl

Some of the best parts of this book are the crazy things he says. For me, it's very reminiscent of Chuck Palahniuk or even a touch of Hunter S. Thompson at times.

“Think what early Christians would have done if Jesus had been resurrected with cleavage!”
"You’re not listening. You won’t be in prison. You’ll be at prison.”

“Right. So when I’m gang-raped in my cell, all that D-block dick will be at my ass, it won’t be in it.”

This part resounds with me—the idea that somehow because...

Bobcat

I'm not sure at what age I became so serious. I suppose it's something we all do as responsibility begins to mute our urge to laugh. And it's been said that the difference is astronomical when comparing how many times a child laughs per day to how many times an adult laughs per day (the exact numbers are unverifiable.) Regardless, I want to laugh more often. So, when I get on the treadmill every morning I've starting listening to comedy albums. Today was You Don't Look the Same Either by Bobc...

The "Chief"

Watching Cannibal: The Musical. I just had to draw the Japanese "Chief." He's such a great character.

Started using my new Leuchtturm1917 journal today and drew this in there. Trying to overcome the ridiculous desire to have everything in my journal look perfect. Sketches are supposed to me free-wheeling and sometimes sloppy.

A Wizard of Earthsea

Written by Ursula K. Le Guin
Manhood is patience. Mastery is nine times patience.
To hear, one must be silent.
Have you never thought how danger must surround power as shadow doeslight?

Power lies in knowing the true names for things. This is a fantastic metaphor for the importance of language.

The chapters where Ged goes to wizard school instantly remindme of Harry Potter. It's possible that J.K. Rowling may have been influenced by this.

I’m fascinated by the idea of a wizard who travels incognito...
