Week 1 of Self Portraits

Week 1 of Self Portraits

Recently I’ve been feeling a bit more artsy fartsy. I’m drawing. Part of it was brought on by painting miniatures for my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. And part was inspired by author Austin Kleon who describes himself as a “writers who draws”

About halfway through reading his fantastic book Show Your Work, I looked at his sketches and remembered how much I used to draw.

“I'm always homesick for the journey,” I had once written in ink speckled script, adding almost as an afterthought, “...no matter what it may hold.”
S.C. Barrus

“That is the difference between great men and small, we great are willing to do the hard things, the uncomfortable things to ensure we succeed.”
S.C. Barrus, Discovering Aberration

“There are creatures in this world, small things and pretty things, which burn within them a fire for survival.”
S.C. Barrus, Discovering Aberration

“Re'lar Kvothe," he said seriously. "I am trying to wake your sleeping mind to the subtle language the world is whispering. I am trying to seduce you into understanding. I am trying to teach you." He leaned forward until his face was almost touching mine. "Quit grabbing at my tits.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

“You can divide infinity an infinite number of times, and the resulting pieces will still be infinitely large,” Uresh said in his odd Lenatti accent. “But if you divide a non-infinite number an infinite number of times the resulting pieces are non-infinitely small. Since they are non-infinitely small, but there are an infinite number of them, if you add them back together, their sum is infinite. This implies any number is, in fact, infinite.”
“Wow,” Elodin said after a long pause. He leveled a serious finger at the Lenatti man. “Uresh. Your next assignment is to have sex. If you do not know how to do this, see me after class.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

“It's the questions we can't answer that teach us the most. They teach us how to think. If you give a man an answer, all he gains is a little fact. But give him a question and he'll look for his own answers.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

“Half of seeming clever is keeping your mouth shut at the right times.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear

S.C. Barrus No problem. This month I'm taking a break from writing while I'm trying to give Discovering Aberration some traction. Can't wait to get back to writing soon though. I have a few shorts I've been sitting on that I plan on finally publishing next month.

Speaking of which, you seemed to like Midway Between Heaven and Hell. Would you like a free review copy of Discovering Aberration?

How about you? Hows your writing going this year? Looks like you've been busy with releases last year! That's so great.
