So, the mystery this week was water flowing down a stream and freezing. The people who got closest were Mairi Sim and Sarah Venus, so well done them.

Death is For the Living

As you know, here at Newsnibbles, we love a good vampire yarn. And here’s one coming your way this Christmas!

Death is for the Living

…when ‘here be monsters’ doesn’t only mark the unknown.

By day, Cristina Batista is a deck girl on a Caribbean charter yacht, with all the sun, smiles, and steel drum music that entails. By night, she and her crew hunt the monsters that prey in the dark: the powerful vampire clans of the New World.

Unfortunately Cristina’s past is hunting her in turn – and it’s catching up. Without her partner, sometime pirate, sometime lordling, and ex-vampire, Jean Vignaud, Cristina wouldn’t simply be dead. She’d be something she fears far more.

Cristina and Jean are experienced, motivated, and resourceful. One faction wants them despite it. The other wants them because of it.

Death is for the Living releases 26-December-2018!

Yes, pirates, vampires, vampire hunters and storms at sea can exist within the pages of one book — and they do it so well in Death is for the Living. It’s most highly recommended.” ~Readers’ Favorite 5 star review by Jack Magnus

I wanted to be mad at the author for the ending; how could they do this! But it was perfect! It ended the way the whole book was written, with mystique.” ~Readers’ Favorite 5 star review by Peggy Jo Wipf

About the author:

Born in Gibraltar and raised on a yacht around the coasts of the Atlantic, I’m an author, martial artist, and introvert. In between the necessary making of money to allow the writing of more books, I can usually be found stowing away on a spaceship, halfway to the further galaxy.

Science-fiction and urban fantasy are my favourite genres to write in. I grew up on a rich diet of Anne McCaffrey, Tolkien, Dorothy Dunnett, and Jack Higgins, and finally started to write my own books aged fourteen. I can’t point the finger at any one book or author that set me in my current direction, but I blame my tendency to write characters who favour drastically practical solutions on some mix of those. If I can toss in a bit of gender- and genre-bending, so much the better. Status quo is boring.

Found in Translation

Found in Translation is back.  This time we are partnering with artist and amateur linguist Jen Giacalone

In this section, we take a well known phrase from another language, then find the equivalent saying in English.

If your language has an alternative version, we would love to know, so post it in the comments!

So, this week’s saying is:

In Finnish, instead of saying “I’ll go out even if it rained cats and dogs”, they sometimes use the old saying “Menen ulos vaikka sataisi ämmiä äkeet selässä” which literally means “I’ll go out even if it rained bitches/hags with harrows on their backs”.

What is it in your language?

Monday Mystery Mime

Yes, it’s late again. Blame the interns.

It’s that time of the week again, where our friends at Feathers and Toast perform a mysterious mime for your guessing pleasure. If you guess correctly before Friday, then you could win the mime of your choice being performed! You lucky, lucky humans.

And congratulations to last week’s winner, Sue Rhodes; who guessed fire in a fireplace. The actual answer was smoke swirling up a chimney, so never be afraid to have a go!

Your clue for this week is “Thanksgiving” – it’s an American thing, just go with it.

My Dream Woman Audiobook

My Dream Woman, written by C H Clepitt and Narrated by Natalie Husdan is available now as an audiobook.
Blurb:

When your dreams are real there’s nowhere to escape!

Andi is just holding it together. Working two jobs means she doesn’t need to rely on anyone, but doesn’t have much of a life. In her dreams, however, she is a hero: battling monsters and saving innocents. When her dream woman turns out to be very real, Andi’s life begins to spiral out of control.

Step into an exciting urban fantasy that will have you on the edge of your seat. Think The Book of Abisan, only sexier!

Author’s note:

I loved writing My Dream Woman and was thrilled with the response it received from readers. Hearing it brought to life was absolutely amazing, and Natalie Husdan does a superb job – every single character sounds just as I imagined them.  I could not be more pleased with the finished version.

Narrator’s Note:

My Dream Woman was so enjoyable to narrate because there were numerous different characters to voice and the writing switches continuously between the real world and the dream world of the main character Andi. The action scenes were fast-paced, exciting and frequently humorous, something I’ve not voiced before and I found the attraction and love story that grew between Andi and Dionne quite unique and moving. Anyone into romantic, action or fantasy fiction will enjoy My Dream Woman; it’s a fluid read with a satisfying ending that leaves you wanting to read more in the series.
