Switched (A Trylle Novel) by Amanda Hocking

click here for the buy link

At six, Wendy Everly’s mother tried to kill her. Convinced that she was a monster pt in place of a son she knew she’d had. At 17, a new school and a strange guy forces Wendy to learn that maybe her mother didn’t have it all wrong. She has always known that she was different, but thanks to Finn Holmes, she’s about to learn exactly how different.

This book was okay. It is definitely not your typical New Adult Fantasy, which I can appreciate. I mean, in a market saturated with vampires and shifters, trolls are very unique. Wendy isn’t completely useless, she does want to stand up for herself and she doesn’t rely on all of the men around her for everything all of the time. The action scenes and scenery were very well described and I actually could picture this book as a movie.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t completely out weigh the bad to me. This was yet another misfit high school girl who doesn’t think she’s attractive but the incredibly handsome boy she thinks she has no chance with is wildly attracted to her. Not only that, but there are other hot guys who are into her as well. It was full of cliches, and what’s worse is that Amanda Hocking went out of her way to point out that they were cliches. I think that maybe she was trying to be witty by writing that it was a cliched moment, but it didn’t come off that way to me. There was even a nod to Twilight with the very hot boy watching her sleep through her window. Switched reminded me a lot of The Princess Diaries, if Julie Andrews had been a huge bitch. A lot of sarcasm and intermediary scenes seemed force, almost as if Hocking was watching old teen movies to get her scenes.

In all honesty, I felt like it ended well, and I might read the other books in the trilogy, but I wasn’t overly impressed.

Looking for new blog ideas

As you guys can see, I’ve been trying to post more writing tips on here because I want you guys to know that I am always looking for new ways to not only improve my writing, but to help you guys as well. There will be new reviews coming soon. I am currently reading an Amanda Hocking novel that I will review on here. I am trying to stay away from authors with big publishers, but considering she was once self-published, I will include one of her novels.

Of course, none of that explains the title of this post, so I’ll do that now! I want to hear from you guys, my readers, on what you would like to see more of not only here on the blog, but on the Youtube as well. I am trying to make this as entertaining and informative as possible, and I feel like right now, it’s kind of chaotic and boring. My thoughts are to have a schedule and post specific things on each day. For example: Monday Vlog, Tuesday Writing Tips,Wednesday Editing Tips, Thursday Book Updates, Friday Music/ Trailers, and then the weekends be free-for-all. It’s a tentative idea, but it’s something I’m playing with.

Please comment to let me know what you think and what you’d like to see. I am always open to new ideas. Thanks you guys!

A quick thank you to all of you amazing followers!

A little over a year ago, I started this blog with a hope that it would get my work a little more recognition. Who doesn’t want that, right? I may not have always been the best at posting regularly, but I have been trying. I never expected that I would get anywhere with weird little posts about my books and music videos. So to sit here and type out that I have 114 followers is really unbelievable. Thank you so much to everyone who has followed, reblogged, liked and commented on my posts! You guys are absolutely amazing. Please remember to share this blog with your friends, subscribe to the Youtube, and check out the website. I appreciate each and everyone of you more than you know!

There was supposed to be a vlog here.

Since I am not at home, I was trying to do an update vlog to fill you guys in on what I’ve been doing. I even sat down with my best friend and author, Victoria Barrow, and spoke with her briefly about her upcoming sequel in the Redhaven Saga called “Blood Rite (final title TBD.)” Unfortunately, the computer I’m using is still operating on Windows Vista and this version of video editing software is REALLY outdated. Needless to say, I wanted to still update you guys on what has been going on.

I am still working on the Harper back/turn story and that should be done here in the next couple of weeks. Of course, it will need editing but I will release it as soon as possible. I’m limited to the number of back stories I can release until Jeremy comes out, but I will at least be able to get Jason, Lily and Celine out as well.

Jeremy will be picked up as soon as I get home. This break was not only necessary, it was mind opening. I know that when I get home, I will be able to pick it up and work hard to release it. I do sincerely appreciate that you guys have been so patient with me.

Thank you guys so much!
