It’s here, it’s here! The “Cora Riley” Original EP has arrived!
You guys, I can’t tell you how excited I am that this is in the world now! This kind of collaboration is practically unique in the book world, and I’m thrilled to share this new step with you.
Of interest: After a bit of digging, I discovered that I first asked Sharon if she’d be interested in composing music for the novel inNovember last year. I can’t believe I kept a lid on it for that friggin’ long! Nine whole months have gone by, y’all. It’sliterally time for this baby to be born.
And so! W...

ANYWAY.
At last, the time has come to reveal The Thing!
Ladies, gentlemen, and smizmars: the Cora Riley EP
That’s right, folks!
I’ve teamed up with Sharon Knight, the dark faerie of tribal fusion, and her leather-pants-wearingcollaborator, Winter, to produce a three-track record of original songs inspired by...

I participated in #YesAllWomen and all I got was this lousy death threat
I must start with an apology. I didn’t receive adirect death threat. More of a suggestion to commit suicide. But it didn’t really work as a title to say, “…and all I got was this lousy suggestion to kill myself because I’m a girl.” You understand.
I must also start with a warning. This isn’t a nice post. It contains blatant abuse of women simply for being women and authority apathy. I don’t do trigger warnings, but I figured if I’m already shaking writing about this event and it happenednearly...

5 things to know about Patreon (including pronunciation guide)
Don’t feel bad if you haven’t heard about Patreon, the newest online crowdfunding platform. It’s the leading edge of indie artist fundraising, but it’s a bit under the radar yet. As more and more hot shotsjoin, though, it’s gathering interest from folks like me – little guys lookingfor steady income so they can level up their game.
You can probably see where this is going, but I want to tell you about the system before we get to the meaty bits. After all, the more you know…

Starting over (together) after five years of marriage
It’s been five years today.Five years of figuring it out, fucking it up, and fixing it as best we can. Of experiments and experience. Ofpain and pleasure. Of grief and growth.
It’s quite a milestone these days, five years of marriage. Even in the midst of the fight forequality, divorce rates hover around 50%. Personally, I grew up viewing wedding vowsas outdated and breakable. I’m part of the problem.
And in the last two years of my own marriage, I’ve had at least two legit opportunitiesto pack...

Marking time: My one-year surgiversary
It’s funny. While I chomped at the bit to talk about it at six months, I completely forgot to mark the one-yearanniversary of my reconstructive hip surgery on the actual date (May 16). I had a checkup with my surgeon, sure, but other than that, it seemed like a regular day to me.
Which is sort of the point of having surgery in the first place, right?
Thinking about where I was, how I felt, what my world was like this time last year islike imagining an alternate timeline or a peek into someone e...

“Nothing is forbidden”: Chuck Wending’s writing wisdom
Last weekend, I went to my very first Official Writing Workshop, run bythe inimitable Chuck Wendig (of Blackbirds andTerribleminds fame). And it was AWESOME. Not only did Chuck recognize me without prompting and remembered my name, but I managed to work up the courage to give him copies of my books before I left. Win!
I won’t lie, though: The all-day event hit my impostor syndrome pretty hard – a lot of folks in the room were traditionally published and/or had been writing much longer and more...
