In an old story, a dragon once dreamed of falling down to earth from the heavens. Some say this is because there are memories within a people that can never be erased. In the old stories, there was once a human who gave birth to a dragon. People said that only humans can give rise […]

Beyond The Fringes

Thanksgiving had always been one of those American holidays that I thought of as strictly reserved for people with families that don’t actually despise them.I imagine you’re cracking a joke or two in your head right about now, to the opposite effect. Seriously speaking though, I think it’s a really wonderful tradition. It may be […]

Lightning

LIGHTNING If I am struck down, Let it be by a thought so magnificent, It changes the shape and texture of the universe; If I am broken, Let it be under the weight of the words Of a poet, overcome by passion and madness; If I change, Let it be because I am evolving, And […]

NaNoWriMo? Not So Much

I seriously doubt that I will make it to 50K words for NaNoWriMo. Trying so hard to sqeeze in time and shift mental gears from my job to frenzied fiction writing was more than a bit too stressful of a challenge, in my current state of health.

On one hand, I feel that it’s such a pity to throw in the towel too early. On the other hand I have been writing every day since November 1st and my novel (tentatively titled WHAT THE BONES SAY) is taking shape rather nicely.

Deciding to sign up for NaNoW...

Blood Binds #1

– “IN HEL” –

Hel stumbled into the kitchen of her apartment. She somehow managed to make her way over to the sink and turn the tap on, full force. She leaned over, started weakly scrubbing at her arms. It was useless. There so much blood, not just hers. She cupped her trembling hands under the tap, dipped her head to suck in mouthful after mouthful of the chlorine-heavy water.

She eased back, shrugging off her jacket. Besides the blood, there was a scorched hole through the front. The wound had...

The title says it all. For the next fortnight and some change, people in various corners of the internet will be celebrating Black Speculative Fiction Month by creating and exposing other people to Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Speculative Fiction built and birthed by People of Color. This is something that I never thought I'd see. Though there is still a lot of education and analysis needed on why Black (and other races, an...

#Friday Flash: Respite

Marie let Jean paint her toenails. Perched on a lounger on his balcony, she raised a bemused brow at his choice of coloring. It was a spicy fuchsia that he knew was completely at odds with her personality. Somehow, she managed to resist the impulse to kick him in the teeth.

She cleared her throat. “You’re mistaken if you think this is something that will–”

“What makes you think I have any expectations?” He glanced up with a brief grin. “Aren’t you the one humoring me?”

“Fine,” she grumbled, vagu...
