Review Tour: Blissful Surrender (Bliss #3) by B.J. Harvey

The Bliss Series by BJ Harvey is one of my favourite.  She has created amazing characters and the chemistry she weaves between them is H.O.T.  Blissful Surrender brings us Sean and Samantha's story and believe me, if you though Daniel and Zander were to die for then Sean is absolutely going to melt you heart ... and potentially heat up some other parts of you too ;)

This is a story of Sean Miller, a dom that will have your panties diving for cover with an eyebrow quirk. That will have even the strongest woman dropping to their knees in submission with a piercing stare, and Samantha Richards, a female cop who’s tough, seemingly impenetrable shell is strong enough to resist everyone except the one man it was build up to protect her against.

**Disclaimer – If you thought the first two Bliss books were hot, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Creative use of handcuffs, batons, a club scene you have to read to believe, and a tough as nails dominant who is blindsided when the one woman strong enough to disarm him threatens his resolve not to let his past dictate his future.**

Like the other books in the Bliss series, this book can be read as a stand alone. There are common characters in the books but it is not necessary to read the first two books in the series to read this one.










B.J. Harvey certainly knows how to write a hot and dominant man ... and his name is Sean Miller!  I fell in love with Daniel 'Superman' Winters in Temporary Bliss - Book #1 in this series (and he remains my favourite), and it was here that we first met Sean as one of Mac's three friends with benefits.  He was rather aloof and mysterious, but there was just something about Sean that was hard not to love (or at the very least, lust after!). 
Despite his dominant personality, there is a side to Sean that understands exactly the depth of his feelings for, and connection with, Samantha Richards which means he is not over bearing ... persistent, yes ... clear with his expectations, yes ... but he gets that controlling Sammy in all things is not an option.
Sam is a really interesting character.  She is a strong personality in her own right managing a successful career as a police officer - affectionately referred to by her colleagues as "the Ice Queen".  Ten years ago she made a decision to end her relationship with Sean on the basis of a rather bitter and twisted perspective of her mother.  Sam never really got over the ending of that relationship, nor did Sean, and the two remain single (for all intents and purposes) pining for the unique and intimate connection they once shared.
Sean and Sam reconnect, through a chance meeting between Sam and Ryan, Sean's brother and from the outset Sean is intent on claiming Sam as his own.  His approach is a balanced one, recognising the risks of imposing himself too forcefully, even though that goes against all of his dom qualities.  He is also clear that life is too short not to take risks:
"Whatever happened in the past belongs in the past.  Learn from it, grow, and move on.  Don't let it determine your future.If my parents' deaths taught me anything, it was that life can change on the turn of a dime so you have to live it like it could be your last day on earth."
I am in love with this series and the amazing men that B.J. has created.  Blissful Surrender moves at a perfect pace.  There were times when I wanted to just smack Sam over the head and tell her to go for it ... I mean seriously, Sean was very well known to her and their attraction was undeniable, what was there to question ;)
I loved the ending, but what I loved even more was the raw emotion we saw from Sean coupled with a willingness to put aside his basic nature in a way that allowed Sam to blossom and recognise what it was she truly wanted.

“I want to take you and beat your ass so you can’t sit for a week” I am not sure whether to be pissed or turned on. Something about the way Cole’s voice is low and gravely makes me lean toward being turned on. My body melts as the words pour over me, rolling through my mind. Images of him spanking my bare ass make me grow damp. I pause briefly but he has his hand on my arm causing me to stumble a bit as he keeps going. I have been writing as far back as i can remember. I spent most of my teen years writing short stories that my friends were always begging for more for me it was nothing more than a hobby and a way to entertain myself even though I did manage to get published in the school paper a couple times.

I met and married my very own Alpha male 19 years ago and we have a 18 year old daughter, and two sons ages 15 and 14. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats. There is never a dull moment around my house. We live on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Alabama. We are blessed to have a home on the river and to have the beach just 20 minutes away.

Over the years I wrote a few short stories in between raising my babies but it wasn’t until 2012 I decided I needed to pursue my dream of writing a full novel. It took awhile but in January of 2014 my debut novel was self published. There is always a story in my head and characters talking to me. I enjoy being able to share my characters with others.

I got out of the shower and dressed hurriedly, anxious to get back to Cuba.

The door opened, and like he did it every single day, he stepped inside the steamy bathroom.

My chest rose faster and faster, and I tried to chill-out, but I couldn’t.

I walked toward the stairs with Landon following behind me. As soon as I took the first step, I stumbled and fell forward, but quickly grabbed onto the railing before I sustained any real damage. Jesus, I don’t think I’ve ever been this drunk before. Note to self: never drink Lisa’s drink concoctions again. Landon’s hands were on me as soon as I fell and he hauled me up, wrapping his arm around my waist.

“See, now aren’t you glad I was here?” he stated sarcastically.

I looked up at him and rolled my eyes. “Yes, Landon, you are now my knight in shining armor,” I giggled.

He chuckled and held me close, helping me up the rest of the stairs. I couldn’t help but notice how nice he smelled being nestled against his side either. Somewhere in my drunken haze, I knew that under normal circumstances I wouldn’t smell him up, but since this wasn’t normal circumstances, I smelled him without shame. I was sure he noticed too since I literally stuck my nose on his shirt and took a big whiff, causing him to laugh softly.

As we got to the last step, I pulled away from his hold and dug my keys out of my small satchel. “Thanks for giving me a ride and helping me up the stairs,” I said as I opened up my door. I stepped inside and turned to face him, giving him a drunken smile that I’m sure looked anything but. “I’ll see you on Monday,” I blurted before I closed the door and locked it.

I took my satchel off and tossed it on the couch before heading to the kitchen for a bottle of water and some aspirin. Then I dove head first into my bed, knowing tomorrow I’d have one hell of a hangover.

She currently resides in Pensacola, FL with her husband and twin sons. As a stay at home mom, La Rocca was able to pursue her love for writing. It was always an unrealized dream to write her own book. With the encouragement of her mother, La Rocca began to set to paper her ideas for her first book.
