Type-A Parents Conference

typeaparent-conference-2013-web

The Type-A Parent Conference is the best and one of the largest gatherings of parents from all over the US… more specifically, parents that blog!

This is the fifth year that Type-A has hosted this, their flagship conference, and the third year that I have been invited to speak. I am very excited about going back for a third year in a row and am particularly excited about the topic I get to speak on – my favorite subject, web hosting.

typeaThis year, the conference moves from North Carolina, where it...

Outtakes Happen to All of Us

outtakes

We all make mistakes… don’t we?We all have those moments when, despite it all, we just can’t be serious, just can’t knuckle down to it.

Please say it’s not just me!

For some reason, put me in front of a camera and I find it very hard to be serious. Very hard indeed.

Take the video I was trying to record the other week, for example. I was trying to make a ‘welcome’ video for my website and was sure I could just wing it… but, well, I was wrong.

I recorded over an hour of video that night, starting...

Five Reasons Why You Should Have an Intern

Snowed under? You need an intern! If you’re anything like me, you probably live your life (your working life, at least) completely overloaded with work, feeling constantly ‘snowed under’.

You feel completely trapped because you need to be able to do more so you can afford an assistant, but you need an assistant to enable you to do more.

Am I right?

Yes. I thought so.

There is an answer to your problem though, and I’m kicking myself for only just discovering it now… hire an intern!

Before we go any further, I need to state that I c...

How to Protect Your Site From Malware

Does your site have malware?Websites. They’re everywhere. It seems like every man, woman, and child on the planet has one now. Be it a blog, a fansite or a business site, having your own website has never been more popular.

Unfortunately, with the increase in websites has come an equal or greater increase in people who think it’s clever to try to hack, damage, and generally misuse those sites.

Malware, viruses, SPAM and phishing have all become a sad part of everyday life in this interconnected world, and no one is immune...

New Blogger, New Review

When Mockingbirds Sing - By Billy CoffeyMy Intern, Elayna, has just published her first blog post and first book review – a review of Billy Coffey’s When Mockingbirds Sing.

I think she did an awesome job with the review (even though she spilled Royal Chocolate SlimFast on the book while she was reading it)… and she made me want to read the book!

Would you do a new blogger a favour and go check out her review, which is on ThatEnglishGeek.com and leave her a comment to tell her what you like/hate about it?

Thanks!

Peter

Bridging the Gap

Writing Web Hosting For Dummies has opened up new possibilities for me, ones I previously hadn’t considered or even imagined!

The transition from web host to author left me feeling a little unsure of what the future might hold and what direction it might take me in. That’s something many of us experience at least a couple of times during our lives and it’s a mixture of exciting, frustrating and scary all at the same time.

Since the publication of the book though, a few things have become even c...

Below this, you’ll find a little widget called Simply Linked. All the participants in the carnival add their links to the widget and that way we can all find and read everyone’s entries. You’re welcome to join u...

Launch Day is Almost Here – Web Hosting For Dummies

Peter Pollock holding a stack of Web Hosting For Dummies BooksThey say time flies when you’re having fun…. I don’t know if I’d say I’ve been having FUN necessarily, but time has certainly flown!

It seems like only yesterday that I was planning for the launch parties for Web Hosting For Dummies and they seemed so far away.

There was SO much time, so little need to rush, yet rush I did – I didn’t want to suddenly have to be doing everything at the last minute…. and then the time suddenly disappeared!

All of a sudden, it’s Saturday May 11th and the Twitter la...
