I'd like to say the music flows along my neural pathways and sparks that inspiration into life. It feels more like the music does something inside my heart, though, and in turn, my heart pumps inspiration juice to my brain and that kick-starts the writing process. (less)

Influence

‘Stories ought to leave the reader with a great sense of strangeness and mystery, but never a feeling of frustration.’
Raymond Carver

As a writer, many different things influence me. When I talk about influence, I mean the things that affect or inspire my writing. Those things that shape how and what I write. Music and alcohol affect the way I write the most. I never edit my work when I am under t Read more of this blog post »

"Definitely very flagrant but I enjoy dystopian novels"
Orchard of Skeletons by Eli Wilde
"Well - this was absolutely delightful. Went into it knowing absolutely nothing; honestly, I can't even remember whose recommendation I bought this book on but I am glad I did.

Fast-paced, quick reading, and a story that I could not put down. Read it " Read more of this review »

"Hmmm. I see why people were so drawn to this book. There were definitely times I didn’t want to put it down. I think the frequency of uncomfortable and gruesome acts were a little too much for me. However, I did grow attached the characters and enjoy" Read more of this review »

Eli Wilde liked a quote
Hypnagogia by Michael F Simpson
“That was the strange thing about the communicative abilities of living creatures. Real language had no real meaning. As long as the two souls in communion with one another had a mutual understanding of the way things were in the universe. That was enough to understand.”

“Maybe the flies knew we were leaving. Maybe they were happy for us.”
Eli Wilde, Orchard of Skeletons

“I saw something sticking out of Sloan’s leg after he fell. I didn’t know what it was and didn’t want to ask. Maybe I thought we were the same inside as we are on the outside, a bit like a carrot or something like that.”
Eli Wilde, Orchard of Skeletons

“I picked up a fallen branch and struck a tree with it. Apples fell from the tree. The rope around one of the skeletons gave way and it fell to the ground. It lay there, crumpled and bent in ridiculous angles. I wondered if the person who the skeleton used to live inside would be embarrassed if he or she could see themselves now. I looked around the area but didn’t see any ghosts. Why would I see a ghost? They didn’t exist. Still, I looked a second time.”
Eli Wilde, Orchard of Skeletons

Eli Wilde, Cruel

“I tried to write my own words. They were not like the words in the songs. My words were ugly. My words were wrong.”

Michael F Simpson, Hypnagogia
