5 Great Universal Truths – Non-Covetting (Dharma Talk)
Of the the 10 Commandments, nine forbid certain types of BEHAVIOR. Only one prohibits a certain type of THOUGHT.
“Thou shalt not covet” discourages our desiring what others possess. In addition to Judaism and Christianity, both Hinduism and Buddhism discourage coveting.
Well, if “covet” equals “desire” then human beings seem to run on coveting. Certainly, the American economy is driven by coveting.
Having desire is normal and natural. Coveting, on the other hand, is desiring what someone else has so that he or she cannot posses it.
And, believe it or not, we all do this without realizing it– to our spiritual detriment.
Discover the ways in which you covet without even knowing it and how this can lead to a poverty mindset and living a life of lack.

There Is No Shame In Day 1!
Monday morning at this time I’ll be out of recovery from shoulder surgery.
I was going through my checklist and I’ve got everything I need: a top-notch surgeon, a woman who loves me and will nurse me back to health, a great assistant to handle everything and a handful of friends who’ve offered help and assistance.
There’s one thing I’m missing—especially today. I’m missing my mom. My mother, Lindy, left our world just over two years ago.
Mom went back to school in her 40s to become a nurse. Her degree only confirmed what we already knew—my mom lived to take care of people. I’m grateful that I’ll have the chance to repair my shoulder and I’m even more grateful that I get to remember and share my wonderful mother with you.
BTW, I’m on Day 1.
‘Long story.
Day 16!
I’m now on Day 16 in my attempt to go 21 days in a row without complaining. This is my second time on Day 16. So, if I make it to tomorrow Complaint Free, I’ll be on Day 17 for the first time.
Monday morning, I’m having surgery to repair both a torn rotator cuff and labrum. The doctor says that the recovery will be slow and painful.
BUT, I’m going to keep doing the 21-day challenge. If I complain while I’m lying around in pain, it’s NOT a huge failure. I simply move the bracelet and keep going.
Remember,
“ONLY PEOPLE WHO GIVE UP EVERY FAIL.”
“THERE IS NO SHAME IN DAY 1.”
“THIS IS A PROCESS OF TRANSFORMATION AND TRUE TRANSFROMATION TAKES TIME.”
“YOU CAN’T COMPLAIN YOUR WAY TO HEALTH, HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS.”
Happy Mother’s Day!
Sunday is Mother’s Day. Here’s a photo of me and my mom 35 years ago. (Yes, I did have hair at one point and a cheesy moustache to go with it.) In this photo, my would have been a little younger than I am now.
After my mother died I found a newspaper article she had saved tucked in her Bible. I have no idea how old it is or who wrote it but it’s a great reminder to share for Mother’s Day.
“MATURITY”
MATURITY is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence or destruction.
MATURITY is patience, the willingness to pass up immediate pleasure in favor of long-term gain.
MATURITY is perseverance, the ability to sweat out a project, or a situation In spite of opposition and discouraging setbacks.
MATURITY is unselfishness—responding to the needs of others, often at the expense of one’s own desires or wishes.
MATURITY is the capacity to face unpleasantness and frustration, discomfort and defeat, without complaint or collapse.
MATURITY is humility. It is being big enough to say, “I was wrong.” And, when right, the mature person need not say, “I told you so.”
MATURITY is the ability to make a decision and stand by it. The immature spend their lives exploring endless possibilities, then do nothing.
MATURITY means dependability, keeping one’s word, coming through in a crisis. The immature are masters of the alibi—confused and disorganized. Their lives are broken promises, former friends, unfinished business and good intentions which never materialize.
MATURITY is the art of living in peace with that which we cannot change.

5 Great Universal Truths III – Don’t Steal (Dharma Talk)
Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Judaism all speak against taking something which does not belong to us.
Originally this was, of course, an effort to maintain an orderly society but there is a deeper and more profound spiritual message. Taking from another person declares to the universe that we are separate from one another and, therefore, separate from the flow of Universal good.
Discover how you might be taking things which don’t belong to you without even realizing it. And, how you can get back into alignment for greater happiness and a deeper sense of peace.

Day 13 in the 21 Day Challenge!
So far, I’m on Day 13 in my attempt to go 21 consecutive days without complaining.
One of the most common things people complain about is work. Some people are in jobs they hate and, as a result, rarely succeed. Others see their work as a mission. They LOVE what they do and their lives reflect their passion.
This is my fiancé Marti and her “identical twin daughter” Starr (30 years her junior.) They LOVE yoga and see it as a way of serving the world. They provide free snacks and beverages AND every yoga student gets a FREE FOOT MASSAGE after every class.
Their commitment to service is the reason Marti and Starr have built the most popular yoga studio in Kansas City, MO.
Are you WORKING or SERVING?
How might you shift your mindset to serving others?

Day 12!
This is my 3rd time being on Day 12. By contrast, I’ve been on Day 1 eleven times.
I’ve discovered that the formula for success at ANYTHING is:
C
-
T
Consistency over Time.
When I was in San Francisco, I visited Ripley’s Believe it or Not. They have a handwritten Bible on display that a man meticulously copied word for word.
HERE’S THE KICKER: He only copied for one hour per day, every day for one and a half years. If someone asked you to copy the Bible, you might think it would take “forever.” But, only an hour a day for 1.5 years did it.
Be CONSISTENT with your attempt to become Complaint Free. Even if you feel stuck on Day 1 for months! Be consistent over time.
You can do it!
