Technical Difficulties
Normally, with today being Monday and all, I would post a Dad-At-Home blog about fatherhood or some other weird thing about being a parent. These blogs are created several weeks out and scheduled, because let’s face it, time isn’t something I have in abundance, so I write what I can when I can.
Today however, I’m going to have to forego my normal blog series. You see, last week, Phoenix got her two month vaccines. In and of itself, no big deal. However, since then, she has been feeling a littl...

Letter to Egypt
Friday the 13th is normally just a simple superstition. In fact, most Fridays that fall o the 13th have nothing too eventful happen. But on the most recent Friday the 13th, one particular news article came to my attention. It immediately made me think about a similar story from years ago. The signs are all there, pointing to a potential disaster. So I created this open letter to Egypt:
To Whom It May Concern,
I’m writing this letter to you, the rulers/governors/presidents/etc. of Egypt, because...

Sleepless
Another Monday, another Dad-At-Home post. This is for more than new parents though, because today I’ll be talking about:
Sleep deprivation.
It happens to us all for many, many reasons. Fun, stress, work, school, the reasons are many, but the end result is always the same. I have fought my way through the bowels of sleep deprivation to provide a simple little piece on how to survive those sleepless nights.
Day 1 – The Beginning
The first day isn’t the easiest, but it’s also far from the hardest....

Natalie the Not-So-Nasty: An Excerpt
As I promised HERE, I now present to you: An Excerpt!
***
Mr. Whiskers perked his ears up inquisitively when Natalie began to gather her things. She felt lucky that she hadn’t unpacked too many things the night before.
“C’mon, Mr. Whiskers. I don’t think we’ll be able to make a home here. Maybe we can find work in Or’there. At least we would have a friend there. After all, Petunia’s studying to be—”
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Natalie and Mr. Whiskers both jumped and turned toward the door.
“Meow?” The c...

My Abusive Boss & Other Stuff
Over the last few months, you might have noticed a severe lack of blog posts from me. Or not. You may have instead discovered the optimal temperature for perfect maple syrup viscosity. I don’t know, I wasn’t there. But suffice to say, there has been a lack of blogging going on here.
Why? (I’m assuming you’re asking, because if I’m asking this gets a tad ridiculous.) Well, I got a new job.
‘Good for you,’ I hear you say? (Yes, I can hear you.) Well, as you may have noticed from the blog title, m...

Behind the Scenes: Natalie the Not-So-Nasty
So, just after my daughter was born, I reached another milestone. My second book came out to thunderous… Well, silence. The truth is, with my daughter in my arms everything just seemed to melt into the background. So unlike The Persnickety Princess, I did nothing for Natalie the Not-So-Nasty.
But, I would like to rectify that right now and tell you a bit about the story behind the story as it were.
Back when I was working on Persnickety Princess, I had the idea for a wicked witch that wasn’t wi...

If You Want to Be Happy, Change. My Review of Gripped: Your Personality is What’s Holding You Back by Jason Donnelly
There are first sentences and then, there are first sentences. I don’t think I will EVER be able to shake the image conjured by those simple words: I came on my cat today, again. Now that you too will not be able to shake that image, especially any cat owners out there, let me talk about Gripped: Your Personality is What’s Holding You Back by Jason Donnelly.
It doesn’t take long to understand why there’s a sock on the cover of Gripped. I don’t like the term chronic masturbator, so, I’ll simply...

BAM, POW, ZOT! My Review of: Who is Killing the Great Capes of Heropa by Andrez Bergen
For those uninitiated few that don’t already know, I am a nerd/geek/etc. So, when the opportunity to read a book styled after the Golden Age of comic presented itself, I jumped on my office chair, yelled “Excelsior!”, pushed off from the wall and smashed into a door frame. Okay, maybe nothing that extreme, but I was giddy with anticipation.
Within a page, I was hooked. (That seems to happen a lot, maybe I’m just really lucky with book choice) Before I knew it, I was immersed in a great murder...

Bittersweet
Today I barely have the energy to move. It’s not for lack of things to do. Little Phoenix is due pretty much whenever she feels like it at this point. I should be happy and excited and busily prepping my little girl’s nursery.
But not today. Today, I feel like the wind has left my sails…
You see, my little girl is almost here after what feels like an eternity of waiting, and one of the many things I was looking forward to was introducing her to her great-grandfather. Yesterday, however, he pass...

Guy In The Kitchen: Taco Pocket or Taquette?
The Internet is full of guys telling women to get back in the kitchen and/or make them a sandwich. As an apology for my gender, as well as a way to give guys a hand with food that doesn’t involve organic this or that and tofurkey,I have decided to start posting random recipes for guys, by… Well, by this guy. (That seems like it needs a joke, like what has two thumbs and– never mind)
To kick things off, I figured I would give out my most requested recipe, the Taco Pocket (or more commonly the T...
