Descendants Giant-sized #2: After-Party (Part 1)

This entry is part 53 of 53 in the series CurrentIt wasn’t long before the downstairs commons was filled with frightened and confused chatter.

Kareem ran his fingers through his hair. He and the others had a lot of work to do.

I’ve got the weapons. Warrick volunteered. Without waiting for a reply, he went over to the man Lily had tased and delivered a stinging backhand to his temple to keep him down while he divested of him of his rifle, tac harness and the sidearm in his shoulder holster.

While...

The Big Idea

As some of you may have heard me mention, I’m one of several million Americans still on dial-up internet. This isn’t a money issue; even if I did have sixty bucks a month to hurl at my desire for webisodes and porn, I live in a rural area where high-speed internet is straight up unavailable. The subdivision down the road from me has it, but the local provider (a legal monopoly , by the way) can’t be assed to add the capacity for me and my neighbors to get connected.

There is a tiny silver linin...

SIMaS Chapter 8 – His Excellence, King Link

Amanda opened the door, causing the two soldiers waiting just up the corridor to stand at attention. Exiting the room behind her, Link got a good look at them for the first time. Aside from being roughly the same height and dressed in the same uniform, the two men were markedly different in every other way.

One had the same skin tone as Amanda, though his skin was rough with age. He looked to be in his sixties but still in incredibly good shape; better, Link suspected, than himself. He had a b...

Descendants #69 – Crashers Chp. 6

This entry is part 52 of 52 in the series CurrentTammy heard Warrick’s proscribed course of action and it made her smirk. Then she looked up to see a man holding a gun on her best friend and she had to force her breathing to normalize.

It hadn’t been that long ago that she’d wanted to be a prelate because her brother had. And then Warrick actually became one and she tried to follow in his footsteps as the Irrepressible Spark. That had been a near disaster that necessitated not only her brother...

Fantasy Is (Exploring Fantasy Part 2)

Okay, so the last article on Fantasy as a genre go sidetracked into a discussion about the varying degrees of ‘weird’ different fantasy works inhabit, but now we’re going to dig into the genre.

Remember when I was discussing the Superhero genre and how it was defined vs the general Speculative Fiction category? Fantasy is actually much, much harder to define than that. Sounds hard to believe, right? I mean, Sci-fi is the one with the space ships and fantasy is the one with the dragons, right?

R...

Descendants: LA #21 – Wolverine Publicity (Part 3)

This entry is part 9 of 9 in the series Descendants: LA Volume 2It took almost half an hour of questions and answers before the west coast Descendants managed to completely lay out the entirety of their situation (with omissions for secret identity reasons) for their east coast counterparts. When they were done, there was a moment of quiet as everyone let things sink in.

Only a moment.

“So you guys got yourselves sunk in deep.” said Facsimile with a low whistle. “This sounds like crap even we h...

Descendants #69 – Crashers Chp. 5

This entry is part 51 of 51 in the series CurrentOne minute, the music had been pumping, the guests all having a good time. The next, a horrendous, explosive noise over-topped that same music and a section of the front door, specifically the lock and surrounding door and frame, exploded.

Ollie had been standing there, making idle chitchat with Malcolm, who had become his idle chitchat partner at events like those. He took the brunt of the damage as the heavy lock crashed into his thigh while b...

Villainous Breeds 3: Motivations and Agendas (Part 2)

Last blog, I talked about motives for villains , both in terms of tapping real life for them and in coming up with slightly more fresh takes on them. I also populated the entire deal with videos of villain songs because those are the best songs in whatever movie they appear in.

Well, I wasn’t done. It turn out, I can ramble on and on for a very long time with just three bullet points. So here we go again: more bullet points! More songs!

I always crack up when she says ‘Body Language’

Avante!

This entry is part 19 of 19 in the series The Spider's SevenTommy tried to keep his eyes on the road. High up in the cab of the state of the art Asphalt Emperor RV, that was even more important than it would have been in a normal vehicle, seeing as the Asphalt Emperor could do a lot of damage in a wreck.

The RV had been purchased by Wendell out of the World Spider funds Anansi had left the group access to. Two stories tall with more features than many houses, the thing was a beast to handle in...

Descendants #69 – Crashers Chp. 4

This entry is part 50 of 50 in the series CurrentTink settled into Laurel’s chair in front of the computers and started switching things over to monitoring and controlling Freeland House’s security systems.

Unused to communicating telepathically, she spoke out loud in reply to Kareem’s telepathic announcement. “Give me thirty seconds to interface with security, Kareem.”

Behind her, Lisa closed the door to the workshop and locked it against any curious or amorous party-goers. “I told everyone th...
