The new librarian was perfect. Soft and sweet and shy. Since he’d come into town, the man had looked for women good enough to be his new wives. So far, he’d found only one. But the new librarian would make a beautiful second wife.

Maddy had been working at the library for a couple of weeks the first time the head librarian, Denise, asked her to man the place by herself. It was only the two of them, so Maddy had known from the start that there’d be times when she was alone. Truth be told, she preferred it that way.
She sat at the desk checking out books and answering questions while townspeople filtered through. Most of them had already welcomed her back to Lunaville, so she was having to have fewer and fewer awkward conversations about that, at least. Living in New York, she’d forgotten how “small town” Lunaville could be.
One of her friends from junior high, Lisa, stopped by the desk when she finally had a lull. “How’re you holding up? Ready to run for the hills yet?”
“Not quite yet, but check back in an hour,” Maddy said. Lisa was one of the few people she could talk to.
“Some of us are going to the bar tonight. Want to come?”
Going to the bar meant loud music, screaming just to be heard, drunk men hitting on her and fighting through a crowd to get to the bathroom. The bar was the last place she wanted to go. But she couldn’t stay cooped up in her apartment all the time, either. “Sure, okay. Maybe for an hour or so.”
A smell hit Maddy, the scent of freshly printed books and soda pop fizz and home.
Lisa said something else, but Maddy didn’t hear it. A need washed over her, moving her almost against her will. Maddy grabbed Lisa’s hand. “My mates.”
Lisa squealed as Maddy walked away, around the desk to the open area in front of it. She headed toward the hallway leading to the front doors. Where were they?
Out of the corner of her eye, Maddy saw a man catapult around the corner, coming from the fiction section. He stopped a few feet away from her.
Donovan Geary.
She smiled. She’d always found him attractive with his dark hair and eyes. Sort of mysterious and movie-star like. Donovan Geary. Her mate.
He moved toward her, a little more slowly now, and pulled her into his arms. “Hey,” he whispered in her ear.
“Hey.” She squeezed him tight. He felt as solid as a concrete block.
Donovan moved his head a little, then a little more, til his lips were millimeters from hers. Then he kissed her, more than a peck but less than a five-alarm-fire. When he pulled back, he didn’t pull back far. “Where’s our third?”
They both turned their heads to one side then the other. Maddy spotted him first. Before the knowledge even hit her brain, her knees gave out.

Are You Wearing Green? St. Patrick’s Day H0p
I’m part Irish, and growing up we always celebrated St. Patrick’s day by eating corned beef and cabbage for dinner and of course wearing lots of green clothing. I LOVE freshly cooked corned beef but now that I’m an adult, I’ve realized that I seem to lack the gene to cook it. Last St. Patrick’s day, for instance, I tried a new corned beef recipe in the crockpot and ended up with a hockey puck. I choked some of it down but the rest ended up in the garbage. *sigh* I’m a good cook, really I am!

Excerpt from Harvest Moon
Donovan Geary loved books. He spent so much time at the library his mother said he should work there. His brother Matt said Donovan should move in.
Lately, the library hadn’t been open as much. One of the two librarians had retired and it took the powers that be a long time to find someone new. He might have considered applying, seeing if he could sweet talk them into letting him have a job he wasn’t qualified for, except he loved the job he had as a park ranger. As much as he loved books, he didn’t think he could spend all of his time cooped up in a building.
He’d heard they’d finally hired a second librarian, which meant they’d be open longer hours again. As he stopped in for the second time that week, he wondered if the new woman would be there–and if he’d know her. He knew pretty much everyone in town; he also knew no one in town was qualified to be a librarian.
Donovan entered the brick building through the “front” door then walked down a little hall to the open doorway that lead into the library proper. As he headed across the open area in front of the check out desk, he got his first glimpse of the mystery librarian.
She was hot. Exactly his fantasy of the naughty librarian, she looked buttoned-up but he could easily picture himself releasing her caramel tresses from that loose bun and fanning them out over her shoulders before kissing her full lips until they turned red.
Then Donovan blinked. He knew her. Didn’t he? He walked closer. Yeah, he knew her. But who was she?
“Madison Blake,” a loud voice said from behind him. “I never thought you’d come back to Lunaville. Ever.” Lisa Griegson, a lanky blonde who did, indeed, have a big mouth, swept by him toward the desk.
Madison Blake? That sexy librarian was shy little Maddy?
His fantasies immediately flipped onto their side. He pictured himself curing her of her shyness by tutoring her to become a temptress in bed. He could do it, too. And he’d love every second.
Donovan wanted to talk to Maddy, but Lisa stood at the desk chattering away. Talking to Maddy in front of Lisa would be a big mistake–Lisa gossiped and exaggerated better than anyone he’d ever met. Saying hello to Maddy would mean half the town knew about their “wild affair” before the end of the day.
Instead, he headed for the fiction section. He’d almost finished every science fiction novel they had. Pretty soon he’d start in on the mysteries.
A half hour later, he emerged, looking forward to charming Maddy while she checked out his books. But instead, the head librarian sat at the desk and Maddy was nowhere in sight.
Squashing the disappointment in his chest, he promised himself he’d read as fast as he could so he could come back soon and see her.

A Romantic Rendevous (H0p) with My Favorite Book Boyfriend
I love (love love) Curran from Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series. He’s a lion shifter who leads the local shifters and he’s yummy beyond belief.
If you’re familiar with the Kate Daniels series, you’ll know it’s urban fantasy and the relationship between Curran and Kate spans several books. (I’m trying soooo hard not to give away spoilers here.) While I do love more traditional romance, there’s something to be said about watching a relationship unfold over multiple books, and that might be why Curran is my favorite book boyfriend.

Excerpt from The Alpha’s Secret
Bridget parked down the block from The Weeping Widow, a pub/tavern that claimed roots back in the colonial days. It certainly looked the part, with its wood timbers and dark interior. When Bridget told the hostess who she was meeting, she was told they hadn’t arrived yet, and was seated at a table for four. She glanced at her watch. Noon, on the nose. At least she hadn’t been late again.
A couple of minutes later, Bridget felt a powerful tingling, just like she had the night before on the phone. The outside door opened, and the most delicious smell wafted inside. It smelled like forest and sex and home. She couldn’t imagine what it was, but she had to find out. She stood to go look.
Her eyes met those of two wolves. From across the room, she couldn’t scent them to know they were wolves, but she just knew. Just as she knew what the scent meant, and who they were.
Her mates.
Bridget’s pulse pounded in her neck. She didn’t want mates. She’d never wanted mates. Shit. She sat down.
The two wolves walked quickly across the room to her, but she wouldn’t meet their eyes. She fought the urge to run. Their chairs scraped across the floor as they sat down.
“That’s why…” one of them said.
The other said, “Yeah. That’s why.” He reached out and took her hand where it rested on the table. “Bridget?”
She jerked and looked up at him, immediately caught by his eyes like a rabbit in a trap.
“We can skip lunch,” the other one said. “Find a hotel somewhere.”
The mating urge must be riding him hard. Hell, it was riding her hard. Her body had turned to a soft mush all centered between her legs. If she weren’t so scared, she’d be dragging them out of the restaurant and finding the nearest alley. She pulled her hand away.
“I’m Gavin,” the big one said. His dark hair and chocolate eyes made him exactly what she’d always found attractive—big, dark and sexy. If only he weren’t her mate.
“Liam,” the other one said. He wasn’t small, either, though he didn’t have the big muscles Gavin did. Liam was slimmer, lean and mean, his hair cut short in a dark buzz cut. His eyes were a striking blue.
She wasn’t sure what to say, so she went with the obvious. “I’m Bridget.” Her voice sounded small.
Neither of them would take their eyes off her. She felt naked and exposed.
“Let’s get lunch,” Gavin said. He flipped open his menu.
Liam gave a very faint whine, his wolf protesting the delay. He continued to gaze at Bridget. “I never thought I’d be lucky enough to have mates.”
Bridget couldn’t take it. She stood, dropping her napkin onto her seat. “I’ll be right back.” Then she fled to the bathroom.

“What’s wrong?” Liam asked Gavin. He’d found his mates. They should be kissing now, on their way to the closest bed. But she was obviously upset. “I don’t get it.”
Gavin gazed at the bathroom door. “I don’t, either. Something’s not right. She’s acting…”
“Scared. But she doesn’t have any reason to be scared of us. We’d never hurt her.” Liam didn’t know what he felt, himself. When he’d first scented her and then seen her across the room, he’d felt so excited. This was what he’d always wanted—mates of his own. Someone to come home to, someone to protect.
Then when he’d seen her body language, his wolf had nearly had a fit. She acted like someone had hurt her. Why else would she be afraid of them, two strangers who’d never done her any harm?
But he felt hurt, too. Why would his mate reject him when she didn’t even know him?
Bridget returned to the table, avoiding their eyes. Her hands shook a little as she replaced her napkin on her lap. “I’m sorry. I know this probably isn’t what you expected when you found your mates.” She took a breath. “The thing is, I don’t want mates.”
Ouch. “Why? What’s wrong with us?”
She met his eyes and he felt it like a kick in the gut. Hers were a warm blue, fringed with lashes the color of her reddish brown hair. Her lips looked full and kissable. “There’s nothing wrong with you,” she said fiercely. “Nothing at all. I just…I’ve never wanted to be mated. I’d hoped it wouldn’t happen and then I wouldn’t have to deal with…this.”
“Why?” Gavin said, face hard.
Liam had known the alpha a few weeks now. And while he was every bit as strong as any other alpha Liam had met, Gavin tended to be more low key. He didn’t flex his muscles unless he had to. Liam had asked him about it once, and Gavin had told him he’d had to curb his natural instincts when he became a detective, because he made a much better detective if he blended into the woodwork than if he walked in, fists flying. But now the alpha was back.
Bridget shook her head. “There isn’t a particular reason. I just never—”
“That’s not good enough. Did someone hurt you?” Gavin’s voice was soft, too soft. Like a wolf on the prowl.
“No. I mean, yes, but no. It’s not like that.”
“Then why? We’ve been given an incredible gift. Why don’t you want it?” Gavin was starting to sound angry.
“Just tell us why,” Liam said. He fought the urge to reach out and take her hand.
“I don’t know, all right? I just—I just don’t want to be owned.”
Owned?
She stood. “I have to go.”
“No, wait,” Gavin said. Both men stood, but she’d already gone half the length of the restaurant.
“Should we go after her?” Liam said. His hands felt clammy.
“Let’s give her time to cool off. Maybe she’ll change her mind.”

Gavin shifted in his chair so he faced her, his arm still on her chair. “Tell us what it is you’re afraid of. Whatever it is, we’ll fix it.”
She gave him a disgusted look. “Typical man, thinking everything can be ‘fixed.’ What if you can’t fix it?”
“Tell us what it is,” Liam said.
She rounded on him, enunciating every word. “I don’t know what it is.”
Liam sat back in his chair. “Then what—”
She stood, the chair legs screeching, and made a cutting motion with her hands. “I just feel scared, okay? You’re both more dominant than me. Everyone’s more dominant than me. You’re going to steamroll right over me until nothing’s left.” Her face turned angry. “And that’s if you don’t turn mean after we’ve mated and start beating me.”
“Beating you,” Gavin echoed, his voice hollow.
It didn’t make sense. “What makes you think male mates beat their female mates?” Liam said. He’d never heard of such a thing. Females were to be cherished and protected.
“I don’t know,” she whispered. “I just know it happens.”
Gavin sat forward. “Did you see it?”
“I don’t know.” She sat down again, not looking at either of them. “I’ve always felt this way.”
Liam met Gavin’s eyes, and immediately knew what he was thinking. There was a story here. A mystery. And who better than two PIs to figure it out. She might think they couldn’t fix it, but she was wrong.
In the meantime, there were other approaches they could take. “What if you get to know us before we take things further?” Liam said. “If you find out we’re good guys, will that make a difference?”
“Maybe,” she said softly.
“Then give us a chance.” Liam slipped his hand into hers. “Date us. In public, with plenty of people around. Let us show you.”
She squeezed his hand. “Okay.” She let out a little huff of breath. “I feel so scared. At the same time, I feel like…”
“Like you trust us?” Gavin said.
Her tongue darted out to wet her lips. “Like I want to lick every inch of your bodies.”
Gavin made a choking sound, and Liam could barely keep from jumping her. As it was, his hand spasmed around hers. And she squeezed right back.
“It’s awful,” she said.
“Sounds pretty damn good to me.” Gavin leaned forward. “And I bet we can arrange it pretty damn fast.”
Bridget blushed. It was the prettiest thing Liam had ever seen.
“We’ll be gentle, sweetie.” Liam leaned closer to her. All three of them were within inches of each other.
Bridget’s face and neck turned a deeper red. “What if I don’t want you to be gentle?”
A low rumble came from Gavin’s chest as he leaned even closer and kissed Bridget’s neck. “Mine.”
She started. “That’s just what I mean.” Bridget stood. Before either man could stop her, she squeezed behind Gavin and out from behind the table. Liam expected her to keep running, but instead she stopped. “Mine. Like you own me.”

The following week, I’ll be part of the Paranormal Author Takeover Facebook party. The party goes from January 21-24, and my appearance is from 10-11pm (Eastern) on Jan. 21.
And to round out the month, I’m participating in another Wolf Pack Run! If you remember from previous runs, this event is a big sale with a lot of shifter books from a lot of different authors at $0.99. The Wolf Pack will run from Jan. 22-25.
