Beth Rodgers is an author, editor, and college English instructor. Her newest novel, 'Sweet Fifteen,' is the sequel to her debut novel, 'Freshman Fourteen.' She started writing as a little girl and never gave up on her dream of one day being a full-fledged author. Besides her love of writing, she is an avid TV and movie watcher, and she loves to hunker down with a great young adult novel any chance she gets. She lives with her husband and two sons in Michigan.

These include making character maps, meaning that I make associations between and among characters to be sure that it is clear and understandable how they know each other and why they do or do not get along. Sometimes I like to just write anything and everything that pops into my head to see where it takes me. This is often helpful, as free association can be quite invigorating in thinking of new ideas. There are a slew of other ideas I tend to try, but even though writer's block is one of the most annoying issues writers deal with, sometimes writing about why I'm blocked can be one of the most useful ways to break through it. Beginning to understand what is blocking me sometimes makes for a great writing topic in and of itself.(less)

I loved reading about their relationship and how it developed with subtle words and gestures. The way it was explored in the movie versions of the books was well done, in my opinion, and showed even more depth to their relationship.(less)

Thanks to everyone who has already voted for me and my novel, 'Freshman Fourteen,' in the Bookbzz.com Prize Writer Competition! We're nearing the end of the competition - only 8 days left! - and if you haven't voted and wouldn't mind taking a minute out of your day to do so, it would be much appreciated in an attempt to bump up my rank! Thanks in advance, and please spread the word!
