Caught up...for now

Well, I finally did it. I cleaned out all of my inbox and my PM's, plus went to the post office and mailed off everything I'd previously promised to people. So if you're waiting on a package from me, it's on its way! But if you sent me an email and you didn'

Friday to Friday contest
I mentioned in my post two weeks ago that soon I'd be running contests on my blog. Bet you thought I'd forgotten about those, didn't you? ;-). Well, never fear, free things are finally here! Today marks the start of the first of five contests I'll be running from now until June 13th. Why until June 13th? Because that's my birthday, so consider these contests an early birthday celebration from me to you! So, without further ado, here's Contest Number One...

Reading and recharging
I mentioned before that I hadn't been writing in the two weeks since I turned in Spade's book. I attempted to get caught up on all my emails (still not done yet!) and do other business-related stuff I'd pushed off. In addition to that, I've also been reading - my prescription for deadline burnout. Reading recharges my mental batteries. If I go long periods of time without reading - and no, I don't count my own words - not only am I grumpy, but my writing also suffers. It was love of reading that

Ah, Friday
This week has gone fast for me. I have errands to run today, plus answering more email and doing another critique, but by Monday, I should be ready to roll up my writing sleeves. Now, the only question is whether I'll be rolling up my writing sleeves starting Mencheres's book, or doing a revision. My agent informed me that my editor *thinks* she'll have the revision letter on Spade's book by Mon-Tues. If so, that's first on the agenda. If not, it's Mencheres's turn in the spotlight.

Finally, the chapter!
First, a big thanks for all the music recommendations. I'm checking everything on iTunes and I think I'll have a bunch of favorites picked out for when I start writing next week. But please, keep the recs coming. I can never find too many songs that I like :). And now, at last, the first chapter, description, down-loadable wallpaper, and teaser page are up for DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE. Ignore the small formatting errors in the chapter, they will be fixed soon. I was also very pleased to hear

Recaps, contests, and requests
I'm happy to say I got many things accomplished last week during my "off writing" time. Read four books, one an ARC I'll be blurbing. Paid my bills. Did a guest blog. Answered a lot (but sadly, not all) emails that had been accumulating). Critiqued a friend's book (and she's still speaking to me - yay! ;), revised the back cover copy of FIRST DROP OF CRIMSON, looked into getting a book trailer, and sent a slew of updates to my web designer. For everyone who's been asking, "When will the first ch

RT, day three and four
Friday at RT started off as a good day, because I didn't have to wake up early. By Friday, I was so tired from getting only 4-5 hours sleep a night, that I lay in bed for over an hour before even summoning up the energy to call for room service. After breakfast and getting ready - also slowly - I headed over to the convention hotel. By one pm, I had a migraine, but I was holding off on taking my meds because of how dopey they make me. This meant that when I met Ilona and others for drinks at the

RT, day two
Okay, I should have posted this yesterday. Bad author, no cookie! Pretend you read this Tuesday. Thursday at RT was busy. First I sat in on the YA Teen, Beyond Twilight and the Gossip Girls panel at 10:15. Melissa was one of the panelists, and it was interesting to listen to the discussion on limits, markets, trends, and censorship as it pertains to teen books.
Right after that was the 11:30 panel of I'll Love You Forever, Writing a series in Urban Fantasy that I was on along with several other

RT, day one
Today was busy. Returned the rental car to the dealer, finished the galley pages for the UNBOUND anthology, sent a bunch of updates to my web designer, paid bills, cleaned the house, and answered some time-sensitive emails. Now, at last, blogging will commence! As I mentioned in my previous post, Tuesday night I left for the Romantic Times convention in Orlando. I've heard some snark in places that RT is a booze-and-mantitty-fest, and to that I say, if you're looking for liquor and mantitty, yes
