Cheryl R. Lane was born and raised in Tennessee and went to college at East Tennessee State University before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia. She started writing as a hobby while in college after purchasing Southern Heritage cookbooks, which were filled with pages of old plantation homes. She wrote more after moving to Virginia Beach and visiting beautifully restored homes in Williamsburg as well as plantations on the James River. She has been working as a medical transcriptionist for over 20 years while writing on the side, and finally decided to self-publish her first book, "Wellington Cross", on Amazon through Kindle Direct Publishing as well as in print through CreateSpace. There's always an interesting story associated with each place and it gets my creative juices flowing. The second thing I do to get inspired is go for a walk and/or run. Exercise like this always seems to help me think better. I always have my phone with me so that I can type out ideas I get.(less)

I never know exactly where my story will go in the middle - ideas sometimes come mid-sentence and I usually just go with it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I do usually know how it will end, though, when I begin a book. I think I enjoy making conversations between characters the most. I enjoy wondering what this person would say, what would their reaction be. It's a fun process.(less)

Being a self-published author, I do my own book covers.  I usually take my own pictures, with the exception of the one for A Wellington Christmas, which was taken by my author friend, S. W. Frontz.  I enjoy creating book covers and experimenting with all the different templates.  I do this through Amazon's CreateSpace service.  Sometimes I write a good portion of a book and then choose a photo... Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason, for anything.”
