For $60K and a lot of balls, Rob Lowe will blast you into space.

No not, that Rob Lowe. The one at ShipsInSpace (I swear I'm not making that name up) that recently received  $7.78 million in seed funding to get his venture off the ground.

Me? I'm a little concerned about the Poser-rendered drawings. Then again, his IndieGogo campaign was dismal failure, so I'm sure funds are were tight.

I'm sorry for the snarky attitude on this one. In fact, I genuinely hope that Mr. Lowe and his backers are able to pull it off for a fraction of the costs others are planning. If traveling in rocket-shaped gumball machine gets me to space for less -- and doesn't kill me -- I'm in.

Lovely day started with +Casey McKinnon, +Rudy Jahchan taking us to a de-lux brunch in the sky. See the toilet with a view?

Wrapped with swapping stories with +Matthew Wayne Selznick and Carmen (not pictured.)

And the wrap wrapped at a pub. Here's to tomorrow, L.A.!

And no idea what a Taurant is. But I bet it's missing a RES.

How are your science smarts?

I'm torn on most of these "test your [insert relevant topic] IQ" surveys, mainly because they often confuse trivia with working knowledge. This one is better.

Take the survey: http://goo.gl/QzTyH

You'll probably get 100%, but lots of people do not. But the good news is that the odds are in the favor of the younger generation  getting it right, so there may be hope for us after all.

New research proves some people are just assholes.

"People with a positive dispositional attitude have a strong tendency to like things, whereas people with a negative dispositional attitude have a strong tendency to dislike things..."

♦  *Read it:* http://goo.gl/kxmlxk

Or here's my paragraph-by-paragraph rundown:

 - Let's try and make this "new research" sound anything other than obvious.
 - Some people are naturally nice. Some people are naturally assholes.
 - "No, really! It's true."
 - Forced importance.
 - "But we made a scale!"
 - Closing justification for this article.

Hrm. I wonder which direction my dispositional attitude trends?

(H/t for +Scott Barry Kaufman for the share, and an apology to the denizens of the "soft" sciences everywhere.)

Headed back to L.A. this weekend. Here's one of my favorite songs from right about when I left the coast for the desert.

And yes, I still miss it.

Can you believe they still ban books?

Yeah, they do. And while most indie authors I know would love the notoriety of having one of their books banned, it's a practice of censorship that can't be taken too seriously.

We're a month out from Banned Books Week (Sept 22-28, 2013), and my friend +Leah Sauser just told me about a new GPC created to support the program. Join 'em if you're interested in connecting with others or just learning more about banned and challenged work.

I'm sure the RBB GPC will get pretty active during the actual week, with planned hangouts, interviews and other great events. Of course, we're free to talk about the important topic here in our own little corner of GPC especially as it relates to digital publishing. In fact, I encourage you to talk about it everywhere you can. But if you want focused attention, now you know where to find it!

Greeberizo Dip!

Weeks ago I told you that this recipe won me $50. Well, the client (yes, I'm crossing the streams a bit here) liked it so much, they published it! Well... to Facebook. And of course I'm un-credited.

But it's damned tasty!

It feels strange sharing a Facebook link on Google+, but here goes: http://goo.gl/ZkBDiy
