Those lovely composite images of distant moons we're used to seeing from the Voyager missions? They were assembled by hand. Before computer software could build composite images, the frames were printed out and assembled by hand like a puzzle. Here's Jupiter's moon Ganymede in the making with data from Voyager 1. The text mixed in with the images is technical data that can enhance the images beyond the raw file.

Be super helpful to your new hosting company and they'll give you beer.
Well, it worked for me. A few months ago, I sort of forced my way into a closed alpha for http://designly.com. They had almost exactly what I wanted, so I signed up to be notified when their new service launched.
But I'm an impatient man.
I figured out who was behind the project and did a little detective work (read: Google) to find other things they were involved in, signing up for those notifications and hoping that they'd see my name alot and think "huh, maybe we should let this guy in?"
It worked!
Not only did they let me in to the closed alpha (or was it beta by then?) they fielded my questions and actually made edits to their code in near real-time on the weekend while I was doing my best to break things.
Rather than seeing me as a pain in the ass, they saw me as an asset helping them succeed. They offered to buy me a beer when I was in town, and then just decided to send me some from 21st Amendment, a beer not distributed to AZ that I'm a big fan of!
So thanks, +Chris Millard and crew at Designly! Your level of customer service is outstanding and I've no doubt you'll go far!

This is the last of the photos from my mini vacation to L.A. Tomorrow, I'll go back to my normal schedule of ranting about publishing and science. And yeah ... more craft beer.

You load sixteen growlers, whadda ya get?
I'm seriously contemplating making next month Sausage-edition of #thebeerdiet growler-centric. I have a 32 oz. chub and a few 12 oz. ceramic-top bottles that I could fill for day-drinking. Then roll through the better part of a 64 oz. at night.
There are at least two filling stations on my way home. In town? Dozens. And with 16 growlers (only 14 pictures. One I'm drinking out of right now, the other is drying), it's not like I'm going to run out of containers.
I like this idea. Very much! Now to rig a harness on my folding bike!

Just in case we are not crystal clear:
Fuck this rapist, pedophilic asshat and the quadriplegic equines he beat off to racing across the finish line.
Now. Did anyone worthwhile die I should feel sad about? Because it was not this fucknut that was in want of fire ants up and down his urethra, and an especially aggressive form of scrotum cancer. And a bad kidney.
