Hey, baby, can YOUR doppel gang like this? Tell it to the finger!

Professor X

Just spent lunchtime discussing "Hamlet" with Boy. He is willing to listen to my belief that it is a greater work of art than Super Mario Galaxy, but he is reserving final judgement.

Doppelgänger Week, beeotches!

Shelly Clift posted this and I'm passing it on to others. It's quite tragic!

Doppelgänger Week!

***

I told my 13 year old, "You know that thing where I get old and then you support ME? I don't want to wait. Next week, you have to get a job and I'm going to retire." Boy: "Whoa. Is this what senility looks like?"

I find this oddly soothing. I'm going to keep it open on my desktop. I like to look at the clock, anyway...

As Horace Walpole once said, the world is a tragedy for those who feel, a comedy for those who think, and a noisy mess for those who live in my house.

I still don't know what that was about. I'm turning into Bemused Dad -- a kind of Thurber character. Things just happen and no one bothers to tell me why, unless it's something gross enough that no one wants to clean it up themselves.

Tomorrow is Boy's birthday. He'll be 13. The infant creature shaped like a bowling ball (or, with diapers on, like a bowling ball bag with a ball in it) has now grown as tall as his mother. There is nothing I can say about the situation that will not sniff woefully of cliche, but I will say that I'm really happy being a dad.

This is exactly what it's like to have a thirteen year old son.

This amused me. Of course, I am easily amused.

I just discovered the most popular phrase that I ever wrote, according to goodreads.com: "As for monkeys, I would have five, and they would be named: See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, Do Pretty Much Whatever The Hell You Want, and Expensive Attorney." I have no idea of where that...

Music day. Hooray, hooray!

Just found out that Jean Simmons died, age 80. I'm still in love with her Sergeant Sarah Brown from "Guys and Dolls", but she was always fab.

Had a lovely compromise day with the family. Mom and Dad wanted to go out and walk. Boy and Girl wanted NOT to go out and walk. We compromised by walking around a lot between lunch and buying things. Expensive, but at least we got some exercise.

IVY In the Clear

I've only heard a few songs by these guys, but I love this album cover so much I'm making it my profile pic. I'm going to stare at it and try to focus myself into having a Chi'en hexagram kind of week. Or else I'll just get depressed and then eat a lot of Cheez Doodles.

I'm in a bad mood about various (small, non-life-threatening) things, but fortunately my mope cycle is pretty quick.

This fish is (truly) named a "Sarcastic Fringehead." Now, didn't your day just get better?

Sarcastic Fringehead

Hellbent to get a ton of work done today. I will not waste any time. Not even to announce it on Facebook. So you didn't read this.

The news from Haiti is just heart-wrenching. Those poor people. That poor country.

Ah, it's Saturday morning. The dulcet screams of our children wrap the house in throbbing good cheer. It's like drinking your coffee on the killing floor of a meat packing plant.
