He stuck the knife in the ground and stripped off his leathers. The tunic came off, revealing a long, lean, muscled torso, covered in tattoos. Snakes ran up and down his arms, his pecs and his shoulders. A skull blazed on his chest.
Then he was pushing apart my legs, settling between my thighs, leaning over me. He smelled of smoke, leather and musk. It was terrifying, like being at the mercy of an animal.
Falsely accused, Wynne is determined to clear her name. However, a trip to petition the Steward at Brighthelme turns disastrous when the Beasts, fearsome warriors from the frozen north, raze the city. When Wynne is carried away, she’s determined to regain her freedom but Rune, her captor, has other ideas.
Beast is set in Prydain, an imaginary place that combines Anglo-Saxon England with Medieval England, the Teutonic Kingdom and the Viking Age. This story contains kidnapping, dubious consent and graphic violence, however, it is a love story rather than a dark romance. It is a standalone novel; no cliff-hangers.

One Broken Promise by Deanndra Hall

And he’s never broken it. Sleeping with a woman more than once simply isn’t going to happen. He’s always managed to hang onto his resolve, and so far, no woman’s ever blasted her way through. It’s one and done, with no prospect of ever having anything permanent. His childhood gave him that thinking and he has no plans to ever change.
Two women alone, and one of them is in more danger than anyone realizes.
It’s hard being a teenager. Kacey Flournoy knows that all too well. Stuck in a school district full of snobby rich kids, she doesn’t fit in on her single mom’s salary. When she’s cast as a bully, it only gets worse – especially since she’s the one being bullied. And her poor mom, Delaina, doesn’t know what to do. Since Kacey’s dad died while serving in the military, it’s all she can do to put food on the table.
When Hayden draws his first assignment through Citadel Security, he can’t believe it. No way does he want to follow a poor little rich girl around all day to guard her from a bully. It doesn’t take him long, however, to figure out that something’s terribly wrong. And when he tries to right it, he meets the one woman who just might make him break his long-standing promise. That would mean he’d have to let go of the past, but he’s sure he’s not ready and he never will be.
A novella nestled between the first and second books in the first spinoff series from the Love Under Construction series, One Broken Promise takes the hunted to the hunter, the oppressor to the oppressed, and one very scared man to a place that will bring him to his knees. If you’ve ever been bullied, you’ll feel the pain. But you’ll also taste the joy of a promise broken.
WARNING: Strong, graphic sexual situations, a heinous criminal act against both an animal and a person by a seriously sick individual, and a suicide. For readers 18+ only.

Review One Night in Vegas Anthology

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was curious about this anthology because it’s a good chance to see what mainstream US erotica is like. ARC sent for honest. review.
Winner Takes All by Mari Carr
A cute story about a couple who end up sharing a room - and their BDSM fantasy. Friendly and fun. Nicely written. Classic story line. I’ll recommend this author to friends.
Stud Poker by Red Phoenix
A fun concept about a poker ‘truth and dare’ game between a Dom and a chance-met woman. I have read Phoenix stories before and really liked them but this was a bust for me. Shey was fun but at the very beginning, when the man with the ginger kitten asks Master Anderson what he does for a living, and he blows off the polite conversation with nasty crack, he came across as an arrogant arse. I went off him, and that was that for me.
Wild Card by Angel Payne
A wedding party and a Scots bloke in a kilt... Slickly written and there’s nothing wrong with it but I didn’t connect with the characters. I suspect it was too American for my taste.
Hard Hand by Sierra Cartwright
A Sub meets a Dom she’s fascinated by at a masquerade, so she feels she can approach him. A classic story-line of the sub who can’t express her needs. I thought the Dom was a bit odd, because he seemed afraid of expressing his needs too, but it was a well told story. I’ll look into more Sierra Cartwright stories.
Sin City Submission by Jenna Jacob
This is the one story in the anthology that I would read again. Basically a Dom and Sub think they’re in a rut and try to shake things up. I loved the way they worked together, their relationship felt real, and it was interesting. I’ll definitely read more Jenna Jacob!
No Lucky Number by Victoria Blue
A sweet ménage story. Classic story line, nicely written. It reminded me of the Tymber Dalton stories. I’ll recommend this author to friends.

Review You Don't Own Me by Georgia Le Carre

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Dahlia Fury, a sweet ordinary heroine, helps out her roommate by giving one of her clients a massage. However, the client is Zane, an enigmatic Russian Mafiosi, and when he falls for Dahlia, he cons her into becoming his sex slave for a month.
I had the impression this would be a dark read but as Dahlia is irresistibly attracted to Zane, and thoroughly enjoys her predicament, it's a straightforward romance. This is a classic story, but for me the plot and characters were a little light. It also ends in a cliff-hanger. I don't mind huge plots being presented in parts but with this simple tale I'd have preferred it to be complete.
Overall it's a fun, light-hearted entertainment. If you liked Fifty Shades, you'll like this.

Brotherhood of Misfits: Book Two: Paul by Khai L. Bayne

BlurbNot all things that glitter are made of gold.
My name is Paul Kian McKinnon. I grew up with upper class, wealthy parents who had successful jobs, the best education money could buy, friends in all the most popular circles, and of course ideal grades. My good fortune spilled over into my adult life. To most people my life is what you would call privileged. At first glance you would think I have everything together, healthy bank account, beautiful house, good job, and great friends. Everything is perfect, until… The door to the outside world closes.
At home everything falls apart. In this place, I am my most vulnerable. Every night I try silence my inner demons in a sea of sleeping pills and alcohol, but sometimes that isn’t enough. Sometimes it gets to be too much and I need to do more than simply just dull the anxiety, pain, and the all-encompassing numbness. Yes, I know it’s not healthy, but it’s all I have… Well that and my brothers, the Misfits as we are called.
We were all brought together thanks to the kindness of Jethro-Elijah Shepard. Through his compassionate heart and stern beliefs, we’ve grown up together into strong, loyal, friends. We’ve celebrated each other’s wins, as well as comforting each other in our loses. Those men have been more of a family to me than my own flesh and blood, and yet I still can’t bring myself to share the darkest parts of me. They won’t understand because they see me just as the rest of the world does… Perfect.
What would happen if I dropped the mask and let it splinter like the pieces of my broken soul?
Would they save me?The better question is… Do I want to save myself, or do I just want to fade away into the abyss of pain and suffering?
Am I ready to peel away the beautiful covering and let them look at the ugliness underneath?
In order to find out you’ll have to read my story, and trust me when I say… it won’t be for the faint of heart.
(This is the Second book in the Brotherhood of Misfits series. It can be a stand alone BUT to full get to know the characters it is best to read Book One.) Buy The BookAmazon ~ BN ~ iBooks ~ Kobo

Review Punishing Me by Cat Mason

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Punishing Me starts with Ireland, a young musician, being seduced and abandoned by Dominick Bradford. Fast forward a few years and we see Ireland as a successful rock star. However, she’s a bit of a mess, not trusting men but using them quite happily. Then Dominick comes back into her life.
The first two chapters really captivated me, but then the story became awfully confusing. The first two were from Ireland’s point of view, and from the story, I thought that her minder, Jared, would be the foil for Dominick. But Jared disappeared and then we got Mack’s point of view. It took me a while to figure out Mack is also Dominick. It was further complicated by other characters were coming in with their stories: a dad with his kid, a guitarist with his pregnant girlfriend... I’m assuming this is legacy stuff from the other books, but very often I had to struggle to figure out who was who.
Verdict? The writing style is superb, and the characterisation wonderful. 5 stars for those two, but the name changes and number of people wandering in and out was confusing and that interfered with the plot development.

“That is not what I needed to hear, Hen.” He’d resisted the urge to kiss her, but any more time alone with Henrietta would only be tempting the devil. “Let’s go. Now.” Before I do something I shall surely regret.
