Not all things that glitter are made of gold.

My name is Paul Kian McKinnon. I grew up with upper class, wealthy parents who had successful jobs, the best education money could buy, friends in all the most popular circles, and of course ideal grades. My good fortune spilled over into my adult life. To most people my life is what you would call privileged. At first glance yo

When I came across the “Brotherhood of Misfits” series by Khai L. Bayne, I was originally only requested to read Book 2 “Paul” – but I had somehow the feeling that would not be a good Idea so I requested to read also the first book “Roc” – which was the right decision. My review here is equally valid for both books.

You might be able to read them as standalones but the story is very complex and the relationships between the characters are not easy to handle. So I felt that you will need the full

What an amazing book. I love reading serials, especially when the continue on from where the last book stopped. I enjoyed the first book. This book has a different twist then the first. There are twists throughout the book and it keeps you on edge.
Paul is dealing with so much that he is hiding from his friends and family. Little did anyone know the way his parents treated him growing up.They were not physically abusive but emotionally and mentally. The things his parents would tell him as he wa

This is one of those series that I wish I waited until all the books were published to read. There is important information that I can’t seem to remember from book 1 and IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! Needless (I think) to say I LOVED this book. I read it in less than 24 hours, could not put it down. It was an emotional read at times (most of it) and could have some triggers (suicide, despicable parents) but it was well done. I love, love, LOVE Khai’s characters, (well there were two I didn’t like, but ...more

Paul's story continues right where we left off in Roc's story, which I loved. Everyone's previous storylines move forward in the background of Paul's intense story. My heart broke for him, such a sweet tortured soul, all you want to do is hug him and kick some ass in his defense. Lonny, Sev and Jinx continue their strange dance, as secrets are revealed, more is left unsaid. There are lines so blurred, you keep turning the pages to find out more. Very entertaining read, with the same tone as the ...more

This is not a romance story, this story is not pretty, it is not about hearts and rainbows and happily ever afters. These is book two in a series that has a lot of moving and working parts. There are a lot of side stories taking place and in the middle of this one is Paul. There was something going on with him in book one and now we get to see what that something is.

Even though he came from a life of privilege, unlike some of the other misfits, he didn't have it any easier. His secrets are deep

This is the second misfits book, you need to read Roc first as the story is complex as is the relationship between the characters. The story is full of twists and turns that keep you turning the page, though there is still more to learn as the series progresses. At times the story was hard to read, what Paul was going through was heartbreaking. Told in multiple points of view, so sometimes Paul got a bit lost amongst the other characters stories. This doesn't have a happy ever after as such, hop ...more

This is the second book in the brotherhood of misfits and each book could probably be read as a standalone I would highly recommend reading them in order.

just like in book one you are drawn in and with with each page you want more.
we get Paul's story, Paul is closed off and doesn’t trust easy but he let's his past and fears tear apart what closeness he has with anyone, but just when he thought he had no one those who were once

There is some mature subject matters in this book, so if you're not up for that type of book then you should not read this series.

When I read the first book, I was honestly debating on reading the second book. I am so glad that I read this book. This book flowed so much better together and it made more sense than the first book of this series. I actually found myself getting really into this book. Now don't get me wrong, I still kinda skimm

To say this book made me an emotional mess is an understatement. What Paul endured in this book ripped my heart out. This book may be hard for people to read so heed all warnings. It is a very dark story but as in real life there is always light at the end of the tunnel. You have to decide if the fight is really worth it and I think Khai really showed the struggle with Paul's character. So yes this book is dark and emotional but so worth the read.

As in the first book the story is told in all th

Paul is hiding something from the people who care about him the most, but he refuses to open up to them and let them help him. With tensions between these friends the blow out is surmountable. The struggle Paul is living with everyday is taking a toll on him and his friends. Stubbornness can be a person's downfall, but it can also be a shield to protect the relationships within your life.

Paul's isolation from his friends and the support they offer,

Growing up in a small town, Khai L. Bayne always had an over active imagination. The only girl in a family with two boys, many of her nights (and some days), were spent finding creative ways to pass the time. Reading soon found its way as the main outlet for the young Khai, but later that love spread to other avenues, such as poetry, and music.
The daughter of a long time “Trekkie” and “Sci-Fi Jun
