His wet fingers abandoned the inside of her throat, cupping the curve of her jaw, and his mouth crushed down on hers.
It was a whole new kind of oral sex. That was the only way to describe the aggressive, needy assault. Again, it should have been a red flag, but Kami wasn't afraid, only morbidly curious. It took her a moment to realize they were drawing closer to the pulsing bass of music. Her escort paused for a moment before a door opened and it washed over them loud and clear. They stopped directly inside to wait for everyone. When the metal door finally closed, her bull man untied the blindfold.
Blinking in the dimly lit entrance, Kami saw that it was a makeshift foyer with draping velveteen crimson, black-and-white jack-o-lanterns, Gothic candelabras, antiqued mirrors, and other décor that would indicate they were getting ready to enter a vampire's secret lair. Even the music thumping and crawling over her flesh was more along the lines of Screamo-Goth-Rave, than the Dubstep bass would suggest.
"You know, there are at least a hundred different horror movies that begin this way," she referred to the space around them by drawing a small square in the air with her index fingers. A more difficult task than one would think with bound wrists. "That's what makes decorating so easy," he said, pulling her against his body to slip a hand under her skirt and take his fill of her ass cheek. "The question is, was that just an observation or cold feet?"
"My feet never get cold," she replied. She barely heard the low rumble of his laugh when he bowed his head right beside her ear. "Careful, demon. Some might take that answer as a deliberate challenge." It was a seduction, his mind. The things he picked out of the air, as if her thoughts were broadcasting on wavelengths he could read like a digital marquee. Things that no other man on the planet had ever been able to hear between the lines of her responses before.

It smells so good in here.
Dash steps to the side and puts the tray carefully down on a cooling rack propped up next to the stovetop. He takes the oven mitt off and lays it next to that, then picks up a spoon from a tile spoon rest and pokes it into a frying pan. Meat is sizzling in spaghetti sauce. We stand that way for several heartbeats. His breath is in my ears. Is that his heartbeat, or mine?
“I liked it earlier,” I whisper, putting my hands up on his chest as if I’d never taken them away in the first place.
“Are you sure?” he murmurs, bending down to speak directly into my ear. “We’re always going to be working against each other, you know. I’m going to open my shop.” There’s a breath of a pause. “Even if you beg.”
The word beg is hot between my legs, a jolt of pure desire. “I’ll never beg you for anything,” I say, brushing my lips across the side of his neck. He smells like safety, like cooking and a recent trip to the shower, like he’d never have a reason to run away, even if something truly fucked up happens. That kind of thing has happened to me before. It could happen again. That’s why I’m working in Lakewood. But I can’t think of that now.
The coffee shops drop away into the corner of my mind that I usually reserve for shit I don’t care about, like actually drinking coffee and horror movies. I press my lips into his skin a little harder as his hands slide around my waist, tugging me into him that last inch.
His hand comes up to my chin, tilting my face up until our lips are almost touching. I forget that I spoke until he answers me, his words melting the rest of my thoughts away.“We’ll see about that.”

As a working nurse, Joy Wood has been creating stories in her head for years, but never found the time to do anything with them – life just got in the way somehow.
Five years ago, she moved to Cleethorpes, in Lincolnshire, and loves nothing better than walking along the sea front. She particularly enjoys the melancholy charm of the seaside in winter. Neighbours think she is so healthy walking for hours each day, what they don’t realise is, she stops off for endless refreshments along the way, and on occasions, the odd bacon sandwich!

Daily, watching the tide turn, gave her the idea for her debut novel, For the Love of Emily. She would develop the characters in her head, and create the chapters on her laptop when she returned home. At various book signings, readers would ask Joy if she was the nurse they’d seen in the local newspapers, which gave her the idea that maybe readers would like a romance based around a nurse, so that’s where the idea for Knight & Dey initially came from, Chanjori House is her 3rd novel and she's hoping readers enjoy it as much as the previous two.
