Up close and personal with Nanea Knott, author of Inheritance

Nanea Knott writes Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, Steamy Romance stories. She published her first title in February 2015 and now has 14 to her credit.
I talked to her about her about her latest title, Inheritance, a 78 page paranormal tale and about her other authoring experiences.
What did you love most about Inheritance? 
What I love about this story is how Melina changes during the story. Her pending divorce has stripped everything from her, her home, her life, and what she thought was a happy marriage. Then her grandfather dies and it seems she’s got nothing left. In his will, her grandfather left her a house. She sees it as a chance to get her life together. Then she finds out that she can never sell the house and why. Her ex comes back into the picture saying he’s going to try to take that from her too. She has to find the strength to fight several people for her inheritance.
What made you choose your genre?
I chose the genre because it’s what I like to read. I love anything paranormal, add in hot sex and good looking guys and I’m in heaven. There is also a lot to be said about bringing in world building. In contemporary, we are limited by the confines of what is reasonable in the real world. When you jump into the paranormal, the possibilities for the development of situations is much greater even if it is set in the real world.
Who is your favourite fiction character and why?      I have a lot of favorite characters, but there are two that come to mind. Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton and Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich. Anita Blake is complicated and funny and loves hard. She takes things in stride until you hit one of her boundaries then watch out. At the same time, I love Stephanie Plum.      The two characters couldn’t be more different, but they have the same tendency to take things in stride, although Stephanie is better with utter disasters as they happen with her so often. Both characters have a strong sense of family whether or not they are blood relatives and both do the best they can under the circumstances. I like that both characters are willing to do what is necessary to get things done.
Tell us about your book blurbs. How do you go about it? Give us a tip about writing book blurbs!      Book blurbs are brutal! At least they used to be. They are a little easier for me now. Emphasis on little. I’ve studied three distinct styles of writing a blurb and I like the method taught by Brian Cohen the most. It makes sense to me. I think you have to find the way of writing a blurb that speaks to you.
I always start with a catchy phrase or sentence - something to grab attention. Then I tell a little about the story with some emotion, talk about what the stakes are and then the cliffhanger question. It seems simple, but it isn’t. It takes time to tell what the story is about without giving anything away. You have to make the reader curious about the story and maybe start to care for the character even before they open the book. That’s the way it’s supposed to work, in theory. I’m still learning and one day I might even get it right.
