She read her husband’s name on the screen, then picked up the phone, cooling her brain, inhaling and exhaling twice before answering.“Where are you?” she asked. She could hear the excitement in her own voice, the eagerness to meet up with him. She was expecting to hear something good in his silvery voice, something to satisfy her ears. But there weren’t her husband’s warm words on the other end. The voice that greeted her was cold and flat.“Your husband’s dead in your old mansion, outside Villa Village.”Casie couldn’t believe her ears. “Pardon me. What did you say?”“Your husband’s dead, at Fuentes Mansion.”A click sounded as the stranger hung up.Casie’s mouth remained open as she went blank, not registering the present. The total blankness allowed a memory to rush in. As the flashback played, her eyes widened in clear horror, as if she were witnessing the crime playing live in front of her.A man and a woman are standing in the center of a room, trapping a girl who keeps begging for her life. Both the man and woman raise their guns at the girl, threatening her that if she doesn’t sign the paper, she will die.Stained with blood, the girl signs the paper, and then the woman shoots her in the back. The girl slightly tilts her head, and the woman smiles at her.The man walks around to the woman, staring at the girl, and then he shoots her too, in the stomach. The girl winces, tears running down from her eyes to her neck. The man and woman’s guns are still fixed on the girl. She looks up at them, her eyes filled with fury.“Kill me!” she says. “But I promise I’ll return to take revenge for my tribulations.”Enraged, both of them pull the trigger again. One bullet enters the girl’s breast, the other her stomach.

Susan Copperfield
(Royal States #1)
Publication date: February 26th 2019
Genres: Adult, Urban Fantasy
In the Royal States of America, magic rules all, but life—and love—always finds a way.Latent horse empath. Dishwasher. Closet chef.Future king. When food poisoning sweeps through Dallas, Patrick Laycal doesn’t expect a princess to show up at his door asking for his help. Her one, simple request dumps him in the middle of a Royal mess—one that could cost him far more than just his life.Storm Called features characters first introduced in Null & Void, the first of the Royal States novels.Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Google Play—EXCERPT:It was shit luck I was on shift the day the Texan Royals decided they had a hankering for overcooked fries and burgers so sopping with grease I wouldn’t have fed them to a pig. I was fortunate; I washed dishes, so I wouldn’t meet any of them, not in my worn jeans and flannel shirt. They wouldn’t even know I existed, and I liked it that way.The rest of the staff faced off against the king and queen of Texas, who were rumored to be volatile on a good day.I didn’t want to learn what it was like to be struck by lightning. I also didn’t want to find out if they really made low-talent freaks with horse affinities, like me, disappear. My talent had been registered early, at age eight, but it had refused to develop into anything worthwhile, which came as no surprise to me.My parents couldn’t afford a horse. I couldn’t afford the college I attended, let alone a horse. I’d heard the same story all my life: talents needed to be used to develop.I wasn’t a null, but I’d never grow beyond my current caste. I could live with that. As long as I didn’t mind washing dishes for the rest of my life, I’d always be able to find a job. If push came to shove, I could join the family trade. Everyone needed a janitor. My mother even enjoyed working as a maid. She believed a clean home was a happy home.“Pat,” my boss bellowed.Jerking my head up, I turned away from my work to face him. “Sir?”“Take twenty for dinner.”The next time I searched for work, I’d make certain I got a proper thirty-minute break—and I’d remember to pack my lunch every single day on the off-chance royalty might show up wanting bad food for dinner. With the kitchen already in a state of chaos from the unexpected guests, there’d be no leftovers for the staff, leaving me to make the hike down the street to grab something at the convenience store to take the edge off. For a rare change, I appreciated my high odds of food poisoning. To dodge the royals, I left out the back door, navigated around the garbage littering the alley, and made my escape to the main street. Two minutes later, I reached my destination. It, too, had a royal infestation, and the Crowned Heir of Texas glared at a bag of chips. Had I been the subject of her scrutiny, I would’ve run for the hills without looking back. Looking back lost races when every second mattered. In the news, the blonde-haired woman scowled often. I couldn’t tell if the lack of selection or indecisiveness bothered her.It didn’t matter. A smart man avoided trouble, so I headed for the refrigerated shelves to pick a sandwich and roll the dice. Movement in the corner of my eye startled me from my search. The Texan princess stalked me, her expression one of unwavering determination. “Excuse me?”“What ya need?” I blurted, and my face grew hot as my accent betrayed me as someone from a lower caste. She either didn’t notice or care. “What’s good here?”I frowned, considering the selection of sandwiches. To my dismay, only one lacked eggs or mayonnaise, the top culprits of unexpected digestive distress following the poor choice of acquiring dinner from a convenience store. I grabbed the pulled pork sandwich from the shelf and offered it to her. “If by good you mean edible, your best bet is to take one labelled as made today and hope for the best. This is the one you want.”I picked the second-best option, and while labelled as from today, it doubled down on the eggs and mayo with some cheese and questionable chunks of chicken. By the end of my shift, I’d regret having eaten anything. I nodded in an effort to be polite and fled while I could. To escape faster, I left the cashier my change to avoid humiliating myself in front of Princess Jessica Dunhaven, the future queen of Texas.

I hungered to be seen. There were three things I knew about Capo Macchiavello:Goodreads / Amazon / Bookbub—EXCERPT:I shrugged, the white button-down shirt tugging at my shoulders. “Some things are not worth trading in, no matter how old they are.” I pointed to the building we were slowing in front of. “We’re home, Mariposa.”“Home,” she repeated, turning to face the window. “You live next to a fire station! Sweet. That’ll come in handy when I cook you dinner.” She became quiet as Giovanni hit a button on the dash and the garage door lifted. “You own this entire building?”“Mmhm.”“It’s not what I expected.”“What did you expect?”“The bat cave?”“How do you know about the bat cave?”“Keely’s brothers. I was over once when they watched that movie.”I gave a low laugh, burying the thought of Harry Boy further down. “Not a place shiny enough to blind you?”Why did the fucker still affect my words? She narrowed her eyes at me. “No, I just thought…something in Manhattan. A penthouse.” Then she grinned, my words sinking in. “Still, this is far from a paper house.”“Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down.”“The big bad wolf dressed in a fine Italian suit.” She touched my hand, her fingers as soft as her lips, where the wolf tattoo seemed to snarl underneath the lights of the garage. “I should’ve known.”Her eyes drifted to my lips, then back up to my eyes, and when she couldn’t hold my stare any longer, she started to fiddle with my tie. Nervous hands, like flitting wings.

Goodreads / Amazon—EXCERPT:“What do you have for me?” I asked Rob as I stormed into the IT room.“You know, just once it would be nice if someone said hello first. Ya know, Hey, Rob. How’s it going? Are you having a good day? Want some coffee?”“You don’t drink coffee.”“Still, it would be nice if someone fucking asked,” he grumbled, spinning around in his chair to stare at his computer screen. Rob was just like the guys. He had the same build and most of the same skills, but he was a computer geek at heart, which meant that he would always be on this side of the action.I plastered a smile on my face and cleared my throat. “Rob, how’s it going? Want some coffee?”“You forgot to ask if I was having a good day,” he said as his fingers flew over the keyboard. “Fine,” I bit out. “Are you having a good day?”He shrugged. “Eh. It’s okay. My sciatica is flaring up again.”“You don’t have sciatica.”He spun around and glared at me. “I could have sciatica. How the fuck would you know? This is the first time that you’ve asked me how I was doing.”“I know because I pay attention when you talk, and you’ve never once mentioned sciatica to anyone.”“Maybe I didn’t want anyone to know about my condition.”“Right, because men are so good at keeping their pain a secret.”“Hey, I’m not like those baboons you work with. I’m a real man that has feelings and shit.”“Feelings and shit, is that right?”“Yeah.”“Alright, so where is this sciatica that you’re talking about?”“In…my sciatic nerve,” he said, obviously not really knowing what sciatica was.“Well, I sure as hell hope it’s not in your optic nerve, or we’d all be screwed.”He huffed out a laugh and shook his head. “My optic nerve. Right. Anyway, aside from that, I’m good today. And yes, I would like something to drink. I’ll take an Earl Grey, please, with milk and two lumps of sugar.”“Are you fucking with me?”Rob was a jokester at times, but the thing that made Rob so awesome was you were never quite sure when he was fucking with you. He could fool anyone into doing anything for him because he had a seriously dangerous poker face. He leaned back in his seat and stared me down. It wasn’t like he made me nervous or anything, but I was relying on him for all the help he could give me, so I didn’t want to piss him off either.“Why would I fuck with you on this?”“Well, it’s just that tea isn’t really very manly.”“Oh, so I guess any man that works at Reed Security could only drink coffee that’s so strong it’ll put hair on your chest.”“Well-”“I’ll have you know that some teas are even stronger than coffee.”“I didn’t-”“And there’s nothing wrong with having sugar and milk in your tea. British men drink it that way all the time and no one judges their manhood.”“That’s debatable.”“Now the British, they knew how to do shit. No matter what they’re doing, they have this gentlemanly air about them. A duel at dawn? Have a spot of tea first. Battle of the Somme? Tea always comes first.”“Except for the poor bastards that didn’t have the luxury of drinking tea because they were on the front lines.”“Well, yeah, except for that.”“So, do you want the tea or not?”“Gatorade,” he said before spinning back around.“So, all this bullshit-”“Yeah, I was just fucking with you. But I will take that Gatorade.”

I'm a stay at home mom that loves to read. Some of my favorite titles are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Horatio Hornblower. I started writing when I was trying to come up with suggestions on ways I could help bring in some extra money. I came up with the idea that I could donate plasma because you could earn an extra $500/month. My husband responded with, "No. Find something else. Write a blog. Write a book." I didn't think I had anything to share on blog that a thousand other mothers hadn't already thought of. I decided to take his challenge seriously and sat down to write my first book, Jack. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing. From there, the stories continued to flow and I haven't been able to stop. I hope my readers enjoy my books as much as I enjoy writing them. I’ve been practicing more recipes and I think I’ve gotten quite a few of them down packed,” Jaemin says as Isla unwraps the food, taking a mouse-sized nibble. As she pops the tab on the can, Jaemin rests his elbows on the white table, head resting on his tangled hands. His sneaker-clad foot sneaking towards hers and trapping one of her ankles. Half a sandwich won’t make much of a difference, will it?” he says, already taking it out of her hands.“No, it won’t. Besides, why are you even on a diet, Jaemin? You already look too thin,” Isla points out, concerned. He shrugs and takes a large bite from the side she’s already bitten off of.“Needed to lose weight.”“No, you didn’t,” Isla says, watching him scarf down most of the sandwich.“May I?” he asks, gesturing towards her soda.“I can get you a full one,” Isla offers.“I just want a sip.”“Well . . . okay, I guess,” Isla says, watching him practically snatch the drink and down at least half of it, lips pressed against the metal instead of waterfalling it.He slides both items back over to Isla, picking up her hand and rubbing it with his thumb.“You know,” he says, speaking quietly despite the two of them being the only people in a thousand-foot radius, “I almost drowned.”Isla freezes up instantly, eyes blown wide.“What?!”“I haven’t told anyone but you. But I almost . . . it hurt. I felt abandoned, completely tossed aside and trodden on.“Jaemin–”“But I didn’t. I didn’t because all I could do was think about you, think about how sad you’d be if I broke my promise. So, I didn’t.”“Jaemin–”“I don’t think I can do that again,” he says, tone flat and lifeless, “I don’t think I’m strong enough to keep that promise again,” he says. The threat is clear.

Well, read it today to see if love can be restored!***Author’s note: this book is intended for a mature audience in terms of content, language, and passionate happily ever afters!Goodreads / Amazon—EXCERPT:Her black pencil skirt hugged her curvy hips and I could tell her ass was just as plump and delicious as it had always been. Although her blouse was loose, I knew those perky breasts were in there somewhere. I wanted to go searching through the snowy white material until I freed them from the gauzy fabric. Samantha’s body was perfect, and I wasn’t the only one who thought so. I could see my case manager ogling her behind as she walked away from him. Although he was a big guy, I was bigger and undoubtedly meaner. I shot him a look, unleashing a fierce scowl at the bastard. And he shrugged, as if to explain that what he was doing was the normal guy thing to do. It might be normal to appreciate a fine woman, but this was no ordinary woman. This was my Sammy. Or at least, she had been.I looked back to her face, panic bubbling in my chest at the thought: She’s here, but is she mine? “Good to see you again,” she said, sticking her hand out as if she expected me to shake it.I crossed my arms and glared down at her. She was a tall woman, and those exquisite heels—which she had tripped over when entering the room—made her even taller, but I could still look down my nose at her. “Is that how you greet an old friend?”“We were never friends. You were my older brother’s friend, and because of that, I am not sure I am the right doctor for this case. There is a conflict of interest seeing as we have a history—”“I think our history is exactly why it needs to be you,” I cut in.I raised an eyebrow in challenge. If the court-appointed babysitter was not present, I might have kissed her then. The plan had been to take it slow and assess the situation, but now that I was back in her presence, all I could think about was picking right back up where we had left off. My dick loved that idea. Clearly my body would get the better of me if I was not careful. The moment she had tripped through that door—always one to make an entrance—the damn piece of wood had become rock hard and was threatening to break the seam of my pants. I was hoping she hadn’t noticed.“You need a neutral party to do this properly. I am afraid I can’t be neutral.”“Look, Sammy-Girl—”She cut me off, suddenly in a well contained rage. There was a flash behind her eyes; those long fingers flew into the air to wave about. I saw that she was about to unleash a volley of emotions on me, but at the last second, she swallowed hard and her splayed fingers found her hips. With that professional demeanor back, the only tell she exhibited was her slightly raised voice and her sharp tone. Her words were laced with venom, something she probably didn’t display with most of her clients. “This is a professional mental health facility in a state of the art hospital, Mr. Peterson. You will address me as Dr. Bowers.”“Okay, Dr. Sammy.” I chuckled to myself as her eyes grew wide and her nostrils flared.

In the meantime, I’m all about enjoying these years.Against my better judgment, I agree to dogsit for my friend. As I feared, it does not go well. As a matter of fact, it goes so poorly we end up at the vet- the dog’s fault, not mine.On the bright side, Dr. Herriot could star in his own veterinary reality TV show, if there is such a thing. The man is sex in scrubs.Mason Herriot might just become the highlight of my year. As it turns out, not only is he single, but he also needs some fun in his overworked life. And fun? That I can do.Mason HerriotMy daughter is my world. The fledgling veterinary practice is my career and my passion. As a single dad, I couldn’t balance both without help from others. Some days, it doesn’t feel like I’m balancing anything at all.Delilah Daniels walks into the clinic on one of those days. My partners are out with the flu, and I, once again, am stuck at work.I can’t even explain why I ask her out. It’s spontaneous. There’s an energy to her. A zest for life. And there’s something about how she cares for her friend’s dog.We aim for casual. I may be a single dad, but I’m not blind. Delilah packs some curves and it proves hard to keep those dates family-friendly.In a nanosecond, casual loses all appeal. We can make this work. On every single wall, pieces of paper are taped. For a minute, I’m unsure, but no, it’s most definitely children’s art. Some of the paper bears the marks of age, faded colors, and dust. Those are mostly comprised of lines and scribbles. Some of the fresher papers include torn-out pages from coloring books, carefully drawn in the lines. A few are colorful paintings in the abstract. Handprints and footprints. Others landscape and animal drawings. Many cat and dog line sketches. I point at the paintings and grin. “Do your kid owners send you artwork?”He slips both hands into his front pockets and closes one eye, as if he’s thinking about my question. “Kid owners? You mean my patients’ owners?”“Yeah.” There’s a ton of art here. He must have been collecting these for years.“No. My daughter is a budding artist. These are all hers.”Jesus, Mother, Mary, and Angels. I did not expect that. A single dad. I’ve never done that before. Dated a parent. People with kids usually seem so different. His shoe taps mine. “You can close your mouth.”“Oh, no, I ah—”“I should’ve said something yesterday, but I didn’t really know how to bring it up. I haven’t dated, or tried to date, since she was born. If it’s an issue for you, we can just be friends. Really. I’ve got a great vegetarian lasagna in the oven and a huge kale salad, so I hope you’ll still stay for dinner. An adult dinner without a child at the table is a rarity for me.”As he’s talking, I twist around, studying all the art, wishing my brain would catch up. This is fine. What does it matter if he has a daughter? I’ll probably never meet her. I mean, isn’t that kind of a rule among single parents? You don’t introduce dates until you’re serious? And I’m gonna be moving. I don’t do serious. But wait…“Are you single?”He exhales, and it sounds like a mixture of a laugh and relief. “Yes. Never been married, actually. Kara lives with me. Her mom’s in a band and isn’t around. Or…she hasn’t been.” He calls as he heads to a hall at the end of the room, “Can I get you something to drink? Wine? Water?”“Wine, please.” Yes, this situation calls for alcoholic reinforcement.
