Making your side job your main job – Tommy Griffith
Seems like everyone wants to be an entrepreneur these days. Being an entrepreneur is widely considered the dream to achieve. But what if you cannot afford to just quite your day job and start your own business? Is it possible to build one while still working your other job and paying the bills?
My guest on this episode is Tommy Griffith. He used to head up SEO at PayPal and Airbnb and he even taught SEO. One day he realized he wanted to do more than just work. He wanted to play. So he started a side gig called clickminded.com and he built courses teaching people how to do SEO themselves and more. His journey took many years to see that initial side gig become a full-time career that paid his bills, covered his lifestyle and generated revenue even when he wasn’t working 80 hours/week.
Tommy Griffith shares the 1000 day rule, how to know if you have entrepreneurial ADD, the key questions you need to ask yourself to start a side gig that can become a success and even gives us a little bit of an SEO lesson.
Tommy Griffith has been doing search engine optimization for more than 10 years. He was previously managed SEO at PayPal and Airbnb, and now runs ClickMinded, a digital marketing training platform for marketers and entrepreneurs.
Tommy started ClickMinded as a side project while working full-time at Airbnb. He grew it until it started generating more revenue than his annual salary. Two years ago, he quit Airbnb to go full-time on it and ran into a number of problems in trying to grow the business from there. www.clickminded.com

The Business of Business and Publishing – Peter Hoppenfeld
Anyone can start a business. Not everyone can run a successful one though. There is more to running a business than picking out a name and opening the doors. And there is much more to getting a book published than getting a contract with a big name publisher or even self-publishing.
My guest on this episode is Peter Hoppenfeld. His client list is a Who’s Who of global leadership, health and wellness and digital marketing. His clients have longevity because they listen, learn, grow and protect their businesses along the way.
Take a listen as my guest, and my personal legal adviser and literary attorney, shares what he tells his successful clients, how he has learned to take the fork in the road when it comes and how you can too.
Peter also shares questions you need to be asking when you start your business and when you are growing your business. We also discuss the changing face of publishing and how to protect your intellectual property when thinking about a book contract.
Peter Hoppenfeld has been described as a “lawyer who really understands marketing” and “a marketer who happens to be a lawyer.” His approach to representing clients is a holistic approach that aims to bring peace of mind and direction to the business/legal issues that successful, dynamic entrepreneurs face on a daily basis.
As a lawyer, advisor, counselor, friend and devil’s advocate, he aims to integrate himself into his clients’ inner circles and provide caring yet dynamic contributions to their lives and businesses. www.peterhoppenfeld.com

Living a Creative Life – Alan Shapiro
Alan Shapiro is a true creative person. From his day job as a Creative Director for the top Advertising Network to his other day job as a world renowned and sought after photographer, he has helped create some of the world’s top brands and given those who know his photography some of the most beautiful and creative moments recorded with a camera.
How does one live a life, and make money, as an artist and a brand creator without burning out?
You might be surprised with what Alan shares on this episode. He shares how stress and a gift of a camera actually led him to his passion and how teamwork drives his creative life. That was a nugget I was not expecting he would talk about!
We dive into how to celebrate life in every moment, how to build a brand and what questions he asks himself to live his best life.
Many of our parents told us that art is not a career to be considered because you cannot live on that dream. Alan is proof that is not true but you have to be smart about it and he shares how he developed his creative side.
There are a few surprises on this episode as well as Alan and I grew up together and reminisce a bit to celebrate my birthday!
Alan Shapiro is a passionate, award-winning photographer. Advertising Chief Creative Officer, too
He grew up on the creative side of the advertising world, working with clients of every size and in every category around the world; telling their unique stories in very unique ways.
Along the way, he has had the pleasure of working with many, many talented photographers, directors and content creators. I became envious of their art and craft. At first, he saw it as a means of reducing his stress-filled life. As a Chief Creative Officer at the world’s largest Advertising Agency Network, Alan needed a distraction. A friend gave him a camera. Then he bought another. And then another. Alan’s new hobby and daily “creative exercise regimen” quickly turned into a joy-filled and all consuming passion. Then a client. And another. And then many more. Lockheed Martin, GM, Cadillac, Apple, Bose, Scholastic…
Alan loves talking to all sorts of people and seems to have a knack for getting them to open up and share themselves despite the intrusion and intimidation that a serious-looking camera often represents.
He likes finding and sharing things I find. Beautiful things. Powerful things. Poignant things. He doesn’t like rules very much. He is incredibly patient and am often rewarded with moments of magic.
Alan enjoys taking something ordinary and making it something well beyond that. Illustration and painting are other passions as is creating unique “painted” photographs and photo compositions.
One thing led to another and now his work is published, hanging in corporate and private collections and shown in galleries.
With two careers he loves, his word to describe life is: Happiness.

How to be rich
What does it really take to have financial freedom. To be financially free to have what you need and what you want without fear that you will be broke?
There are many books out there touting the latest gimmick to have the monetary life you want but many are just that, gimmicks. My guest today is the co-author of The Latte Factor with David Bach and I recommend this book become required reading.
If you are not so much into reading, then take a listen to this interview as John David Mann lays out the decade long quest to get this book written, how any one can achieve their financial dreams and yes, how a latte really can lead to financial freedom without giving up the latte.
JOHN DAVID MANN has been creating careers since he was a teenager. At age 17, he and a few friends started their own high school in Orange, New Jersey, called Changes, Inc. where he went on to teach. Before turning to business and journalism, he forged a career as a concert cellist and prize-winning composer. At 15 he was recipient of the BMI Awards to Student Composers (at the time, their youngest award recipient ever). His musical compositions
were performed throughout the U.S. and his musical score for the play Prometheus Bound (written at age 13) was performed at the amphitheater in northern Greece where the play was originally premiered over 2,000 years ago.
John’s diverse career has made him a thought leader in several different industries. In 1986 he founded and wrote for Solstice, a journal on health, nutrition and environmental issues. His
series on the climate crisis (yes, he was writing about this back in the eighties) was selected for national reprint in the Utne Reader. In 1992 John produced the underground bestseller The Greatest Networker in the World, by John Milton Fogg, which became the defining book in its industry and sold over 1 million copies in eight languages. During the 1990s, John built a multimillion-dollar sales organization of over 100,000 people, and cofounded and served as
editor in chief of three business journals.
John is an award-winning author whose writings have earned the Nautilus Book Award, the Axiom Business Book Award Gold Medal, Taiwan’s Golden Book Award for Innovation, and the 2017 Living Now Book Awards “Evergreen Medal,” awarded to his beloved parable The Go-Giver for its “contributions to positive global change.” John’s books are published in three dozen languages and have sold more than 3 million copies. In addition to coauthoring The Go-Giver with Bob Burg, he is also coauthor of three New York Times bestsellers and five national bestsellers, including The Red Circle and Mastering Fear with former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb,
The Slight Edge with entrepreneur Jeff Olson, Real Leadership with financial CEO John Addison, and I Should Be Dead with political commentator Bob Beckel. His Take the Lead, with former White House adviser Betsy Myers, was named Best Leadership Book of 2011 by Tom Peters and the Washington Post.
John is married to Ana Gabriel Mann and considers himself the luckiest mann in the world.
