189: Sharón Lynn Wyeth – Know the Name Know the Person

What’s in a name? According to my guest today, every thing. The name you were given at birth, a nickname you were given or took on, and even a new last name at marriage, is the key to your future.

Sharón Lynn Wyeth has spent most of her life studying people. First as a teacher and then as the Founder of Neimology. The science of interpreting names is an old one. Going back to ancient times, first names have been bestowed on children with the weight of what their parents hope the child’s future will look like. Or in some cases no major thought whatsoever to what their name means.

But what if there was more to your name than its definition? What if you could figure out who to hire, who to take on as a client, who to marry or at least what name you should take on after you marry? What if by understanding your own name, you had the keys to unlock the best of you in the world?

Take a listen as Sharón Lynn Wyeth unlocks the secret behind Neimology and how you can learn how to decipher your name, and others, by yourself.

International name expert Sharón Lynn Wyeth is the Founder and Creator of Neimology® Science, the study of the placement of the letters in a name, after 15 years of research followed by 3 years of testing in over 70 countries. She has evaluated thousands of names since 1995. Her bestselling book, Know the Name; Know the Person is the first in the sequence, followed by Know the Name; Know the Spirit and Know the Name; Know How to Connect.

You may have seen her on Good Day LA, New York City’s Fox News, Good Morning Arizona, and in various other cities on NBC, CBS, & ABC or have heard her interviewed on any one of hundreds of radio shows.

Today she is hired by Human Resource Departments in choosing appropriate candidates to interview, lawyers in how to present cases to judges, and individuals who wish to know themselves better and maximize their ability to connect with others. She also assists nationally and internationally in naming new businesses, new products, and when people wish to change

their names.

188: Captain Kevin Miller, USN retired – From Top Gun to Author and Entrepreneur

The movie Top Gun has fascinated millions of people around the world so much so that a sequel is finally being planned. Movies about U.S. Navy Fighter Pilots regularly hit top box office numbers. What is it about Navy fighter pilots that piques our interest? What is it that has us wondering how they do what they do and how we can get some of their confidence for ourselves?

I’ve seen the Blue Angels perform multiple times and each time is like the first. My heart starts racing and I am in awe of the focus and dedication the pilots have. Yet, when asked where they would rather be, each pilot will always say they look forward to going back to their ship and protecting our country.

My guest today retired as a Captain in the U.S. Navy after 1000 FA-18 Hornet day and night takeoffs and landing on aircraft carriers. There are very few people in this world that have achieved that milestone. After 24 years in the military Kevin Miller still is involved as a defense consultant and corporate trainer on continuous improvement plus he is an international bestselling author.

On my January 29th episode I got to ask him questions I never get to ask someone about what it is really like to be a fighter pilot, how one transitions from a life of high adrenaline and constant alertness to a civilian life, how it was different working as a legislative liaison versus active duty as a fighter pilot and our current geopolitical environment especially in the South China Sea. We also talk about the continuous improvement process used in the military and how you can apply it to your business and your life.

Retired Navy Captain Kevin Miller graduated from the University of Mississippi and was designated a Naval Aviator in August 1983. He flew the A-7E Corsair II and FA-18C Hornet throughout the 1980’s and 90’s and commanded a strike-fighter squadron in combat. He finished his career in the Pentagon serving on the staff of the Secretary of the Navy, retiring in 2005 after 24 years. During his military career he accumulated over 3,600 flight hours and 1,000 carrier landings from the decks of 11 aircraft carriers. His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, the Air Medal (with combat “V”), and two strike-flight Air Medals.

After leaving the service Kevin was employed as an associate at two Washington DC defense consulting firms, and today is the Owner/Principal of MPK Defense Consulting. He is also the Amazon Best-Selling author of the military action-adventure novels Raven One, Declared Hostile, and his latest, Fight Fight.

Kevin earned a Master of Science in Business Management from Florida State University and a Master of National Security Policy and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. In 2010 he joined the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and was instrumental in the launch of the National Flight Academy.

Kevin is active in St. Paul Catholic Church, is on the board of the Pensacola Chapter of the Navy League, serves as an Executive Mentor at the University of West Florida, and serves as Vice President of Legislative Affairs for the Tailhook Association. He is working on his next novel.

187: Cheri Abrams – Self Care is for Everyone

I like to think I am good at self care but I have realized I am not. I too often in my life have waited until I was in bad shape before I reached out for help. Inconsistency in self care over the years and the amount of stress have played havoc on my body and my mind. Which is why doing this episode was so important to me.

My guest, Cheri Abrams has been taking care of others and helping them get free of, or gain control over, pain for over 24 years. She taught me that sometimes self care means allowing others to help you versus feeling we have to take care of ourselves by ourselves.

Why is taking care of ourselves something that we often put to the side when we know it is important to put our oxygen mask on first before helping another in jeopardy otherwise we might not be able to help them?

Take a listen as Cheri shares how she built a business after being “called” to help others and how it helps her more than anything she has every done for a career. Cheri also shares things you can do in just moments a day to help yourself and reduce pain and inflammation. She also shares the best way to find a top massage person in your own area.

Cheri is my go to person for massage and other modalities to help calm my shattered nervous system. Take a listen as she shares some of her wisdom.

Cheri Abrams is a Therapist and Educator for over 24 years. She is a Certified Cupping Therapist, Advanced Practitioner in Therapeutic Massage, Reiki and Shiatsu, flautist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and Martial Artist.  Becoming deeply committed into the world of martial arts brought about her interest in the alternative healing methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu, and Massage Therapy.  For fifteen years she devoted her life to training in Ninjutsu and Kung Fu, for which she achieved a black belt level in both arts. To become a black belt level in Kung Fu, she had to learn basic TCM, (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Shiatsu, which led Cheri to become a Massage Therapist, and a teacher for Space Coast Health Institute in Melbourne, Florida.

Throughout all the years of her healing practice, listening to just about every New Age, flute, world, classical, and easy listening cd on the market, it only seemed natural for Cheri to step into the genre.  Her first contribution was recording flute for a meditation CD, Connecting with All Life, for friend and client, Kumari Mullin. Their collaborations continue to this day, and keep checking this site for announcements of new music. www.cheriabrams.com

186: James Rollins -Crucible – From Veterinarian to Thrillers

This is an interesting episode in that we had some issues getting James Rollins on the line so I started out talking about how we learn to be flexible and roll with things. Then James Rollins is able to call in and I get to ask him lots of questions about his latest book, his creative process and we get into a deep discussion about how AI, Artificial Intelligence is not just a character in his latest book.

I am fascinated by authors who started with one career and had an even more successful career as an author. I especially am obsessed with how they weave reality and fiction into their books in such a way that we, as readers, have trouble deciding which is fact and which is fiction.

James Rollins is a NY Times bestselling author whose latest book, Crucible, is listed as a thriller yet it weaves, tech, history, religion, military, world events and science into a novel that is sure to give him another #1 NY Times bestselling book. During our conversation we talk about how he knew when he could set aside his practice as a veterinarian, his advice to others on that process, how he does his research and we have a very deep discussion on AI and our thoughts on where it stands in the world today.

Plus, he gives us a little peak inside his latest, sure to be #1, book, Crucible.

James Rollins is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of international thrillers, translated into more than forty languages, with more than 20 million copies sold. The New York Times says, “Rollins is what you might wind up with if you tossed Michael Crichton and Dan Brown into a particle accelerator together,” and NPR calls his work “Adventurous and enormously engrossing.” Rollins unveils unseen worlds, scientific breakthroughs, and historical secrets–and does it all at breakneck speed and with stunning suspense. A practicing veterinarian, Rollins has pursued scuba, spelunking, and other adventures around the world, and currently lives and writes in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

As a boy immersed in the scientific adventures of Doc Savage, the wonders of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells, and pulps such as The Shadow, The Spider, and The Avenger, James Rollins decided he wanted to be a writer. He honed his storytelling skills early, spinning elaborate tales that were often at the heart of pranks played on his brothers and sisters.

Before he would set heroes and villains on harrowing adventures, Rollins embarked on a career in veterinary medicine, graduating from the University of Missouri and establishing a successful veterinary practice. He continues to volunteer his time and veterinary skills in support of the local SPCA. His hands-on knowledge of medicine and science helps shape the research and scientific speculation that set James Rollins books apart.

185: Brad Taylor Daughter of War – How a NY Times Bestselling Author Stays Fresh and Relevant

What does it take to write a NY Times bestselling book year after year and still love what you writing? How do you keep your readers wanting more and stay up late unable to put your latest book down?

How do you weave current events into the books way before they seem to be current events? What about fact versus fiction? National security details that you know but cannot expose?

What kind of mind makes up the stuff that keeps us on the edge of our seats novel after novel?

Well these are just a few of the questions I ask of returning guest Brad Taylor as he launches his latest Pike Logan thriller, Daughter of War. And wait until you hear how the book title came about. The character it is named for was even going to be a main character. I love to explore the creative process with my guests who are prolific writers and with Brad Taylor I also get to ask him a number of current event related questions that normally I would not get a straight answer on about the world today.

Brad Taylor was born on Okinawa, Japan, but grew up on 40-acres in rural Texas.  Graduating from the University of Texas, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry.  Brad served for more than 21 years, retiring as a Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel.  During that time he held numerous Infantry and Special Forces positions, including eight years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – Delta where he commanded multiple troops and a squadron.  He has conducted operations in support of US national interests in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other classified locations.

His final assignment was as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at The Citadel in Charleston, SC.  He holds a Master’s of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School, with a concentration in Irregular Warfare.  In 2011, Brad published his debut novel, One Rough Man, which was an immediate success and launched the Pike Logan series. Now with more than 12 installments and more than 2 million copies sold, the series has consistently hit the New York Times bestseller list. When not writing, he serves as a security consultant on asymmetric threats for various agencies.  He lives in Charleston, SC with his wife and two daughters. www.bradtaylorbooks.com

184: Yuri Diogenes – Cybersecurity for the Real World

If you are not scared every time you go online to do anything then you are not living in the real world. As a result, all your personal data is available to malicious individuals to use in ways that may cause you financial or other harm.

So how do you protect yourself? Can you protect yourself?

There is no one answer to this problem since hackers think up new ways to get around measures that are put in place to stop them faster than I can type this post but you have to start now. 181: Candice Czaplak – Thriving or Surviving?

The last couple of years I have definitely not felt like I was thriving. It was a life filled with one hit after the other. At least that is what it has felt like to me. Thriving was a distant thought. Surviving the latest health or emotional hit was the job of the day.

I started thinking, what makes some people thrive in spite of everything that is going on in their lives and what is going on all around them?

I have had a lot of people on the show talking about resiliency, PTSD and more and I will have more on even after this show but I love how my guest, Candice Czalplak frames the conversation and how she has started a community to help everyone Thrive.
